In Buddhism there is no central authority on ethical matters but the Dalai Lama has spoken in favour of abortion under certain circumstances. His comment was that an act of killing is negative. If the unborn child will be retarded or if the birth will create serious problems for the parent, these are cases where there can be an exception.
In Christianity, they are against abortion. In Northern Ireland, Catholics and Protestants have united against abortion. However, some groups are more pro-abortion. The Church of England states that the unborn child is alive and created by God. It can be morally accepted when a baby is suffering from a serious disability.
Hindu religious books refer abortion as garha-batta (womb killing) and the Atharva Veda

Maimonides, a twelfth century interpreter of Jewish law declared: "A descendent of Noah who kills any human being, even a foetus in its mother's womb, is to be put to death." The only exception was if the mother's life was in danger. (Society for the Protection of Unborn Children, 2017)
The extreme view is given by the pro-life advocates who argues that human personhood begins when the unicellular zygote is developed and one should not have an abortion. To have an abortion would be consider as homicide.
The liberal view is held by abortionists who believe in pro-choice. They claim that human personhood begins immediately after birth or a bit later. Thus, they consider the relevant date is at birth or a short time later
Doctors’ view is also very much negative about abortion. A study was conducted by the Journal of Medical Ethics on 733 medical students about abortion. The outcome of the survey revealed that almost 1/3 of students would not perform an abortion for a congenitally malformed fetus after 24 weeks, 1∕4 of them would not perform an abortion for failed contraception before 24 weeks and 1/5 of them would not perform an abortion on a minor who was the victim of rape. (Campbell,
In some societies they consider abortion if the mothers health is at risk, or the women with pregnancy is in a result of a crime such as rape. Also if some women can no handle a child. Also government policy of regulating population size and groups within a population. http://www.bbc.co.uk/ethics/abortion/legal/when_1.shtml
There are many common pregnancy alternatives, but most often the resulting decision is abortion because it is effortless. Abortion is endings a women’s pregnancy by removing or forcing a fetus or embryo from the mother’s womb before it is able to survive on its own. Not all abortions are purposely done some are spontaneous like when a women that has a miscarriage. Rather abortion is done purposely or naturally it is a worldwide complication as to it being wrong or right. Abortion is an ethical issue that will be analyzed according to a personal worldview and Christian worldview. Ethical thinking will be examined by value-based decisions that address abortion from the perspective of a Christian worldview and comparing it to a personal assumption by addressing ethical dilemma, core beliefs, resolution, evaluation, and comparison.
Abortion: “the removal of an embryo or fetus from the uterus in order to end a pregnancy.” Is abortion murder? Do you believe in a women’s right to chose? This topic has been an argument since 1500 BCE. What do you think or feel is the right decision regarding abortion? There are many arguments that are pro-abortion and there are also many that oppose abortion. “If women become pregnant, they should accept the responsibility that comes with producing a child” (ethics - Abortion: Responsibility of the Mother.” BBC, BBC,), abortion should be illegal.
In the article, “Should Abortion be Legal,” [U.S Government Publishing Office] Pro life supporters argue that, Abortion in the United States should be illegal because it is murder because the baby is still a person maybe they are not fully formed but they are human. “The federal Unborn Victims of Violence Act, which was enacted "to protect unborn children from assault and murder," states that under federal law, anybody intentionally killing or attempting to kill an unborn child should "be punished... for intentionally killing or attempting to kill a human being."[U.S Government Publishing Office,Unborn Victims of Violence ]. In his essay he writes that,”life begins at conception when the egg is fertilized” (ProCon second point on debate)
There has been much controversy regarding the social, ethical, and medical predicament that abortion provokes. Abortion is the procedure of ending a pregnancy with the early removal of a fetus. There is no right or wrong when it comes to abortion; values contribute a great amount to an individual’s opinion. This process has led to numerous debates among individuals who believe that it is up to a woman to decide what to do with her body and the individuals who hold that women do not have the right to take away a life. Although it may seem as if the beliefs of pro-life and pro-choice advocates are on opposite sides of a spectrum, the two sides can come to an agreement about how to at least lessen the number of abortions occurring.
As a Buddhist, I would most likely still be for abortion. Buddhism itself speaks with more than one moral voice on this issue against abortion. The core belief in Buddhism is against abortion, but there are commonly people of this religion
Religious arguments constitute another group of reasons against abortion. All Western culture is mainly based on Christian religion, which believes abortions to be morally wrong. Christian faith insists on the human nature of the unborn child and regards abortion as a murder. Actually the Bible does not say anything about abortion. This argument is often used by the proponents of abortion. In reality during the time when the Bible was written abortion
This author has chosen to discuss the ethical issues of abortion. This is a highly debated topic that will exist amongst women. It is happening at high rates. “In 2013, 664,435 legal induced abortions
One of the toughest issues to debate in our world today is abortion. Abortion is the induced termination of pregnancy before the fetus can survive. Nowadays, abortion affects all people, not just the mother and the baby. There are moral, ethical, health-related, political, and religious aspects that affect how people feel towards abortion. By looking at religion and its views, one can see just how hard it would be to argue in the pro-choice position of this debate.
Of all the legal, ethical, and moral issues we Americans continuously fight for or against, abortion may very well be the issue that Americans are most passionate about. The abortion issue is in the forefront of political races. Most recently the “no taxpayer funding for abortion act”, has abortion advocates reeling. Even though abortion has been legal in every state in the United States since the monumental Supreme Court decision, “Roe v Wade”, on January 22, 1973; there are fewer physicians willing to perform abortions today than in 2008. (Kraft) At the heart of the ethical dilemma for many in the medical profession is the viability of the fetus. And just to make this whole dilemma more confusing, according to the United States
The main reason that Hinduism doesn’t have abortion is because they believe in reincarnation. Reincarnation is a repeating cycle of birth, death, and then rebirth. The view of reincarnation makes a strong case to oppose abortion. If the baby is aborted the soul that is inside the woman suffers a major karmic setback in its life. The baby would not have been given a chance to earn good karma but is instead sent back to the reincarnation cycle. A soul will have many births and abortion deprives the soul of one of them. The moment of conception is believed that the baby soul is already alive and already a person from a very early stage of
Abortion is tremendously unethical, just like murder is highly immoral. Many religions oppose the idea of abortion; Christianity considers abortion to be a sin under all circumstances; Hinduism considers abortion to be a form of violence. In addition, when the woman decides to have a sexual intercourse with a man without any proper use of contraception, she knows that pregnancy will result. If the mother did not want the baby in the first place or if she could not take on the responsibility of the baby, then she should not get pregnant just to later on kill the unborn innocent child in her womb. Abortion can not only harm the baby, but can also cause physical and psychological damage
Once again it is necessary to state that most of the religious opinions are based on when human life begins. In the case of Hinduism, there is no acceptance of abortion. According to the Vedas, abortion is a sinful activity. There is no question of when a fetus becomes a person. Or even when morality is reached (when a baby is actually born). Abortion in Hinduism is evil in all cases,
There are many reasons as to why a woman may want to get an abortion, but those reasons may not make having an abortion ethical. Some reasons include rape, incest, not being financially able to support a child, having a disabled child, the pregnancy causing dangers to the woman’s health or simply not wanting to care for a child. If the woman has the child it may interfere
Abortion has always been an incredibly controversial topic. It has been one of the most widely discussed issues in the American culture for decades. Abortion is a discussion of human interaction, in which emotions, ethics, and law all come together. In many cases, people on both sides of the argument have valid points and take moral positions. A pro-choice position would assert that the decision to terminate a pregnancy lies the mother and that the government has no right to interfere or step in and make that decision. On the other hand, the position of pro-life advocates argue that life begins at the moment of conception. They believe that because the embryo or fetus is a human life and that one has no moral right to abort it. This theory argues that this human has no power or say in the matter and is rendered helpless from advocating for itself. Although abortion is a morally and emotionally charged issues, it is ultimately protected under the 14th amendment. The most common reasons for abortion include but are not limited to, teen pregnancy, rape, and health issues.
