In Buddhism there is no central authority on ethical matters but the Dalai Lama has spoken in favour of abortion under certain circumstances. His comment was that an act of killing is negative. If the unborn child will be retarded or if the birth will create serious problems for the parent, these are cases where there can be an exception.
In Christianity, they are against abortion. In Northern Ireland, Catholics and Protestants have united against abortion. However, some groups are more pro-abortion. The Church of England states that the unborn child is alive and created by God. It can be morally accepted when a baby is suffering from a serious disability.

The extreme view is given by the pro-life advocates who argues that human personhood begins when the unicellular zygote is developed and one should not have an abortion. To have an abortion would be consider as homicide.
The liberal view is held by abortionists who believe in pro-choice. They claim that human personhood begins immediately after birth or a bit later. Thus, they consider the relevant date is at birth or a short time later
Doctors’ view is also very much negative about abortion. A study was conducted by the Journal of Medical Ethics on 733 medical students about abortion. The outcome of the survey revealed that almost 1/3 of students would not perform an abortion for a congenitally malformed fetus after 24 weeks, 1∕4 of them would not perform an abortion for failed contraception before 24 weeks and 1/5 of them would not perform an abortion on a minor who was the victim of rape.
