Damon Davis's Speech

“Can you live in that moment, as best as you can, with clear eyes and love in your heart? With joy in your heart? If you can do that gentlemen then you’re perfect.” Doesn't take much dose it? This speech has so much meaning and and purpose behind it.

He was able to relate and convince his audience with his strong sound argument. He knew what the people wanted to hear and how to present it. He took the time to study what he believed the American public wanted and how to talk to them in order to get them on his side. He was able to bring in ethos, pathos, logos, parallelism, and antithesis to have a successful persuasive speech. This is a mark of an extraordinary speaker and in his case a politician who was able to persuade the American people to trust in his beliefs and

The speaker shows passion for the subject he is speaking on from the hand movements when he speaks on poverty and domestic abuse as being trivial (a means to an end). The speakers volume was just right he spoke high enough for the back of the room could here, and the speech was easy to understand. Chisholm seemed to have used notes to help present her speech. It seemed that she referred to her notes quite often, but she did maintain a certain amount of poise throughout the speech. The focus of her message and interest was not lost.

Meaningful, powerful, thought provoking are only just a few words that can be used to describe Jimmy Santiago Baca's writing. Baca's book titled, Spring Poems Along the Rio Grande is a collection of short poems, which take readers on a journey through his spiritual union and connection with nature, primarily a river. Through the use of his poems, Baca expresses his hardship and struggles growing up in New Mexico while connecting his need to find spiritually in nature and all it has to offer. Baca's spiritual journey can be seen through his use of personification, metaphors and symbolisms.

The speaker did a very good job with his speech. His speech I believe is more informative, because he is describing his recent experience with appendicitis. The area that I liked most about his speech was his introduction. He had a very good hooked that got a lot of people’s attention including my own. He scared me for a moment, because he made everybody believe that he was going to show everybody his appendix that he just had removed from his body. Instead he showed the appendix of a book. Also, as he presented his speech he expressed what happened to him with very personal information. This information helped him establish his credibility. He rarely made eye contact with his audience or looked down but gave occasional glances over their heads. If Reagan’s speech was fully memorized, he would have enabled himself to better eye contact with with the audience. Also, since Reagan was behind a podium, he came across a bit stiff. This would have been better received if he had used some hand gestures to express his inner thoughts and feelings.

Further, the speaker spoke loud enough to be heard and did not require me to turn my volume up super high while struggling to hear him. Additionally, the speaker utilized a good pace. He moved slow enough for me to comprehend everything he was telling me but fast enough so that I did not get bored and distracted. Finally, the speaker alternated his pitch throughout the speech which kept my attention. Overall, besides the previously addressed issues, the delivery of the speech was great! I would, however, suggest having more time of the speech spent face to face with the speaker for a more powerful speech.

Comparing to my pervious speeches, I thought I was more confident and effective. Since we were in the small room, I made sure that the tone and volume of my voices were balanced. Moreover, throughout the speeches I used various hand gestures to help me get connect with the audience. Preparation is one the most effective way to improve in any kinds of speech. Therefore, I could have done better by practice and preparing more.

Gestures that were used during this speech were some facial expressions one at 1:10 in the video he raised his eyebrows when talking about how his self confidence grew. He also paced back and forth during separate parts of his speech to reassure that he got everyone in the audience attention despite where they were sitting. Cutts' also used hand gestures all throughout the speech to go along with the words he was saying and how much emphasis he was putting into certain words.

Throughout the course of time there have been many world renowned orators, that have forever changed history. The power to speak and captivate an audience is a gift that not many possess. There are have been numerous leaders throughout the world that have achieved this gift and have put it to use. There have been both positive and negative outcomes of public speaking by famous leaders. Whether it was African-American civil rights leader, Martin Luther King Jr., changing the world and the views of people for the better with his “I Have A Dream” speech, or German dictator, Adolf Hitler, pushing his anti-semitic views through his Nazi speeches, people listened. People will always listen to these speeches and take away something different
