Growing up, I’ve always had an eye for the art of dance. When I was five years old I was a part of many dance teams in school and church. From dancing to helping others, I have always been involved in the dance world. For my future career, I’d love to become a professional dance teacher at the Visual Arts School. If I could help out at the Dance Place internship, I know that I would show just how ready I am for my future. The most important reason I would make a great intern at the Dance Place is because of my experience with being a captain, coaching, and teaching.
The beginning of high school up until now I was promoted to being captain of the Knights Visual Ensemble dance team. My duties are to make sure I keep a group of 25 girls organized

I coach a middle school dance team called the Sassy Sapphires. With this group of 15 girls, I take care of everything they need. I create complete dance routines, costumes to wear and makeup for shows. I’m also in charge of signing them up for competitions and handling all the money obligations. Being able to do this puts me in a professional environment at an early age and forces me to be completely responsible. Any mistake I make teaches me a major lesson and prepares me for future. This also preps me to handle things such as working with you at the Dance Place intership.
I'm well known around my area for having good technique, because of this a lot of studios and schools tend to give me opportunities to come work with people of all ages. About 3 times a month I receive emails or phone calls asking me to come and teach technique courses for a full day. Techniques I'm known for are hip hop, ballet, combos, and across the floors. Not only do I work with teams of people I develop a bond with but I also have experience with those I’ve never seen or met before. Being able to work with different people, I form the ability to communicate and teach ten times more
For years now, I have always been acknowledged for how reliable I am there. This is seen as I’ve consistently been turned to for assistance in any classroom that needs extra help, or if they need me to be in additional rehearsals to help guide the younger students along. As a matter of fact, I was one of the few students that was asked to be a “Petite Helper” for the competition team. This position means that I sit in and take part in leading all of the rehearsals of our youngest dancers. Additionally, I am one who the children then go to for guidance and support when
Last week was such an amazing experience! I’m so thankful to have had the opportunity to dance with all my wonderful 4th period friends and take part in the Fall Show, “Subsequent”, with the rest of the BHS Dancers (including my wonderful big, Lindsey)! I’m really proud of how the dance department did as a whole. I love dancing at Brookwood High School because it’s so different than the strict ballet setting that I’m used to at my studio. It is also very special to be part of something at my school. As a Sugarloaf Ballet Company Dancer, I’ve not had this experience before. Dance has always been separate from my school. It is so exciting to be able to say that I dance for Ms. Ellen at Brookwood High School.
Whenever I walk into the dance studio at my high school, there is always a certain smell. There is always a slight smell of sweat, passion and a hint of baby powder. Sweat for working hard, passion for loving what they are doing and baby powder to help with turning.

I'll blame what happens next on the door, and through expansion and growth, those doors will continue to open. Through the doorway of Shaw Dance Studio, literally thousands of students and clients have walked to embrace an establishment that has given individuals and employees the opportunity for growth, challenge, learning, and life-long friendships over the past 25 years.

I was excited. My mom and I were going to get my dance clothes for my first dance class. When we arrived at Releve the dance store my heart was pulsing heavily under my chest. We went in and got me my tap shoes, my white shoes, and my long black pants.
A community that I always have felt a connection in a sense that I belong to the community 100% would have to be the dance community. The best part about being involved in a community inspired by the arts and also even considered a sport, is that the community is always growing, evolving, and shifting every moment. Dance is a language that is spoken and performed throughout the entire world. However each country has a different style that they’re known for. For an example, the United States is well known to dance hip hop compared to Russia where they’re known for ballet. The beauty of this is a dancer is not limited to just one style. Thanks to the dance community we can spread our knowledge to each other and expand our training past just the country we started

After the exciting Disney Night and Switch-up performances in the fourth and fifth week of Dancing with the Stars, the coming episode is also set to be different. Titled “Famous Dances Night,” it will see UFC fighter Paige VanZant and model Nyle DiMario paying tribute to popular numbers from 90s movies.
A dance studio opened when I was in third grade. Nobody thought that the studio would make it since our town is so small. It has been almost eight years since I joined the studio and we now have over 120 dancers. That number doesn’t include the workout classes for adults, acrobatics, pom, cheer, and drum cardio. Tap was the first class I joined. We found some almost ancient shoes at a garage sale for twenty dollars. Since then, I have joined many new classes as well as teaching younger kids. The classes I take are ballet, Pointe, contemporary, lyrical, hip hop, and jazz. My classes that I teach are a ballet class for seven to eight, two hip hop four to five, and one lyrical two to three year old class. Dancing has taught me how to form relationships and how to take care of
I’ve been dancing my entire life. I started by tap dancing when I was three years old, then later moved on to different styles of dance. However, the first day of my audition for an actual dance crew was kind of intense. I remember walking into a room full of talented dancers and completely doubting myself. It gave me a strange feeling in my stomach. I felt like throwing up, but I knew I had to suck it up and get through it. It made me nervous knowing that I was one of the last ones to audition. As soon as I got up on that stage, it was like all my fears suddenly switched off. I danced my heart out and gave it all I got. I got a call a few days later and they had told me that I made the crew. Since that day, I have never doubted myself in
But despite losing many dancers throughout the years we have grown closer every year and my senior year I know leaving Miss Shelly’s will be harder Bishop Kelley. I have too many memories inside all three studios and on the pink and white checkered floors. I am now teaching as an assistant at Miss Shelly’s hoping that the little girls in my classes grow to love not only dance but the studio as much as I do and they find their own dance family. Many of the teachers’ children dance at Miss Shelly’s. There is even one family who has three generations dancing there right now. The Miss Shelly’s family and community is filled with the most loving, accepting, and positive people around and they inspire me to be a better person. Some ways I try to do this is by helping every Saturday after my class with the special needs class or by in the summers going to the Little Light House with Miss Shelly and a few others and teaching them dances. Dance is a big part of my life which is why shoes, the studio and family are three things that reflect
