On Wednesday, November 18th, I had the pleasure to attend and watch the Dance Plus’s Fall show. The Dance Plus was performed at the Douglass Theatre, Victoria Mastrobuno Theater. When I entered the show the theatre seemed a little small for such big crowed. I immediately thought there would not be enough seats for all the audience, but somehow it fitted everyone. As everyone got settled down, the dance performance had started. I chose to write about the first performance that was choreographed by the amazing director, Jessica Lange her work was simply wonderful! I loved every little piece of the play. It put a smile on my face watching this amazing work of art. So with that said, I would now like to talk about the dance performance. There were
Whether you are dancing for passion, to get into shape or to just attain some mental peace, jazz is an excellent option to choose. This highly energetic dance form is unique and has revolutionised the way we look at dance.
On Saturday, November 2, at 2pm I was able to attend and watch the Dance Plus ‘ Fall 2015 show. Every year the Mason Gross School of Arts hosts a program called Dance Plus that showcases the choreography of the dance faculty. The Mason Gross School of the arts is a community of artists that focus on things from music, dancing, to filmmaking. The show took place in a proscenium theater. The Dance Plus Fall 2015 show had five showcases: Unremarkable Appendix, Empathetic Colloquy, Continuous Relation, A solo in Nine Parts, Farming in Sixes, and City of rain.
The first dance performance I will be analyzing is “Don’t Fall Asleep”. There were dark red lights coming from the top before the dance began. Overall, there were fifteen dancers. There were many different props such as a bed with blankets on top that were rolling around on stage. Also, there was an acorn head that one of the dancers wore on top of his head. The music in the background was “Sweet dreams (Are Made of This)”. When watching this performance and the movement from the dancers, the story line in my opinion was there was a girl who was trying to sleep but she kept being awaken by these dreams. Her body language, jumping in and out of bed, running around basically made you aware that she was looking or running from something. The surrounding
Everyone knows ballet has been around for many years, but not everyone knows that people rebelled against ballets structure. Ballet is a very strict type of dance unlike modern which is more free. The strictness of ballet is very different from modern because ballet watches your every move like a hawk. It needs to be straight and precise, but in modern, there is no strictness to it. The moves come naturally to you as well as they can be whatever you want them to be. Most of them are just made up off the top of your head. There are many differences, but there are also similarities. They involve emotion and costumes, but they still relate. Modern is a very free type of dance, so is ballet, but the two have many things that are not the same.
Whenever I walk into the dance studio at my high school, there is always a certain smell. There is always a slight smell of sweat, passion and a hint of baby powder. Sweat for working hard, passion for loving what they are doing and baby powder to help with turning.
Growing up, I’ve always had an eye for the art of dance. When I was five years old I was a part of many dance teams in school and church. From dancing to helping others, I have always been involved in the dance world. For my future career, I’d love to become a professional dance teacher at the Visual Arts School. If I could help out at the Dance Place internship, I know that I would show just how ready I am for my future. The most important reason I would make a great intern at the Dance Place is because of my experience with being a captain, coaching, and teaching.
I attended Momix on April 27, 2017. I had an amazing experience while attending this wonderful production. I was in amazement the entire time and had a blast. Momix is an entire company with many talented dancers who create an illusion for the audience and who are also based out of Washington, and Connecticut. This business was constructed in 1981 by an intelligent man named Moses Pendleton, who is a gardener, philosopher as well as a choreographer. This unique name of Momix came from the service mark name for a milk company that Moses Pendleton used to feed all of his animals on his small farm in Vermont. Moses grew up on this farm and didn't actually end up leaving until he built his own company. Moses used this name for a single-handed presentation in the 1980’s
Normally when a dancer starts at a club, she meets with the DJ to tell him what kind of music she wants to dance to. Throughout the shift, most DJs will take song requests, and the music tends to get more intense as the night goes on. Since I was whisked into the scene without any time for preparation, I’m not sure what type of music Steven is going to pick for me. I hear Angel’s second song start, and the flutters in my stomach threaten to break through my skin and leave dusted bits of flesh all over the carpet. Yes, I’m that nervous.
Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve had a passion for dancing. My mom enrolled me in dance when I was three years old. Very quickly, I began to realize that dance was something I wasn’t willing to give up. Dance has become such an important part of my life, and I don’t know what I would do without it.
I was excited. My mom and I were going to get my dance clothes for my first dance class. When we arrived at Releve the dance store my heart was pulsing heavily under my chest. We went in and got me my tap shoes, my white shoes, and my long black pants.
What qualities are looked for in a professional dancer? Perhaps some people look for a dancer who is simply talented. Talent is an important quality in a dancer because if a dancer is unable to set themselves apart based on their talent, it is impossible for them to become discovered in the industry. Some people think a dancer has to also be smart and able to apply corrections and memorize choreography efficiently. Without this, the talent of a dancer is wasted. In order to be a competitor, a dancer must be close to perfect, which comes with applying corrections given to them by a judge. Another quality looked for could be the dancer’s professionalism, or how well the dancer works with other dancers. As a dancer, you work with many different dancers and choreographers. A dancer needs to be able to be professional and friendly while working with others. If a dancer is unable to work with other dancers, the group dances will fail, and if a dancer is unable to work with a choreographer they can not efficiently learn the choreography. As Dance Magazine’s nominee for Dancer of the Year, Maddie Ziegler exhibits the following praiseworthy traits: success, personality, and versatility.
When you become a performing Hip Hop dancer, there's a lot of communicating with your coach, your teammates and with other people who are also apart of another dance company. Me and my teammates have to communicate a lot with each other because we have stunts in our routine.
With sweaty palms, a racing heart, and shaky knees I wait with the infinite patience only a 7 year old can achieve for the girl in front of me to begin the long trek to the center of the stage. The burlap is scratchy under my feet and the beautiful sparkly gold costume I was so excited to finally put on is giving me hives it’s so itchy. Although the so called stage is really just a 9 by 12 foot stretch of burlap fabric, our “audience” is as big as you can imagine the size of a crowd thrilled to watch seven year-olds dance would be- huge. After wishing to be one of the girls on the rough fabric stage located in the center of our local Thai temple for years, seeing it from the other side made me think maybe I didn’t want to step out there after all. Sure, I used to run out on stage when I was four to dance with all the pretty older girls and of course it was cute then, but I’m older now and if I
A series of set of movements to music, either alone or with a partner. That is the definition of dancing. Dancing is a way to express one's feeling and to get active.
On December 1, 2017, in the University Theatre at California State University, Dominguez Hills, I observed the fall dance concert Rise. It was choreographed by Amy Michelle Allen, Marco A, Carreon, Sarah Cashmore, Jeff Hendrix, Erin Landry, Doris Ressl Acosta, and Kenneth Walker, with the long cast of dancers. The production was pleasing, and would not have been believable without the work from production designers, Frederick Depontee and Cheryl Sheldon. Rise is played out in eight different dance routines, which were Xtra Xtra, Scar Tissue, Hart Broken, Things Are A Stirrin’, and the rest are intermissions such as Female Energy, Women, Exotica, Strength In Numbers, and Makina.
