Daniel Inouye (井上 建): Daniel Inouye, or Ken in Japanese, was 17 when Japan first attacked the naval base near Pearl Harbor. As a medical aid, he was the first to treat the wounded. Though Japanese Americans on the mainland were being interned by the U.S. government as a potential security risks, Daniel Inouye and his equals were eager to serve their country. Inoue would later be a United States Senator from Hawai'i and is the highest-ranking Asian American politician in U.S. history.
