Weekly 3 Upon reading one will gain a better understanding of the food service powerhouse Darden Restaurants, Inc.. We will explore Darden Restaurant’s history, the products and services they offer, along with the company’s business locations. I will also list Darden’s competitors, a few traits that distinguish them from others, and their target market. Darden Restaurants, Inc. has grown over the last fifty years to become a leading casual and fine dining powerhouse. They began in 1968 as Red Lobster Inns of America, Inc. and was later purchased by General Mills, Inc. in 1970. Darden Restaurants, Inc. no longer own Red Lobster, but currently control eight casual eateries. The eight restaurant brands Darden currently own are Olive Garden, LongHorn Steakhouse, Yard House, The Capital Grille, Bahama Breeze, Seasons 52, Eddie V,s, and the most recent acquisition of Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen. All of these establishments offer their own niche and personalized menu (SEC, 2017). Olive Garden is the largest casual Italian eatery, offering a vast array of Italian cuisine to consumers, with a total of 846 locations. LongHorn Steakhouse is casual steakhouse that offers patrons fresh steaks, seafood, chicken, appetizers, and desserts in a ranch house setting. The majority of LongHorn Steakhouses are primarily located in the eastern United States, but also have locations in Dui Bai and Puerto Rico, with 490 locations. Yard House is more of a hipster type place, with 67 locations that over 100 draft beers, snacks, sandwiches, tacos, and vegetarian cuisine with classic rock playing in the background. The Capital Grille is a fine dining establishment that offer patrons over 350 varieties of wine, dry aged steaks, fresh seafood, and are mainly located in major metropolitan areas with 56 locations (SEC, 2017). Bahama Breeze is a Caribbean themed casual eatery that specializes in fresh seafood, steaks, chicken, specialty cocktails, and are primarily located in the eastern United States with 37 locations. Seasons 52 is a fresh grill, with 41 locations that offer a vast array of wines and have an ever-changing menu.
