Imagine a man, digging a grave addressed to him using his own two bare hands. Shakespeare’s Macbeth takes readers back to a medieval Scottish time period where nobility still reigns. Shakespeare’s play is the ultimate display of how man’s desires lead to self-destruction by taking fate into their own hands. Though Macbeth is a highly respected warrior, he is easily persuaded by the people and forces around him to carry out malicious acts that eventually lead to his downfall. Actions speak louder than words, and throughout the play, Macbeth demonstrates dark and evil tendencies that overshadow the good judgment we perceive him upholding by having the titles of Thane and kinsman. Macbeth is evil because even though he starts out an honorable man, his decisions lead him astray. Throughout the play, the three witches prophesize many detrimental events that will happen in Macbeth’s future that leads to many suspicions, causing him to take drastic measures. With persuasion from Lady Macbeth, she shames him into making bold decisions which include killing King Duncan in hopes of being next in line to receive his title. Experiencing immediate nostalgia, Macbeth says, “Who can be wise, amazed, temp’rate, and furious/ Loyal and neutral, in a moment? No man” (II. iii. 104-105).
