With preseason over, all 32 teams need to be down to 53 players. It’s not an easy time to be a 3rd-string player, a late-round draft pick, or an aging veteran. The cuts have already started pouring in, and big names were not safe. Among the known names who found themselves unemployed are New York Giants punter Steve Weatherford, Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive lineman Da’Quan Bowers, and San Francisco 49ers d-lineman Darnell Dockett. Dockett was probably the biggest shock. After never missing a game for the first 10 seasons of his career and earning three Pro Bowl selections with the Arizona Cardinals, Dockett just hasn’t been the same (apparently) since missing last season with a knee injury. Dockett was given a chance with the 49ers, but
Of the 86 players originality selected to play, only 50 remain. A record 36 players have been selected as replacements. Each and every year, more and more players are named to the Pro Bowl because fewer players want to play- and I don’t blame them.
It wasn’t the first time the legendary Babe Didrikson took the mound in a Major League Baseball game, but it turned out to be the most eventful. During the 1934 spring training season in Florida, the woman known as the greatest female athlete in the world was making the MLB exhibition circuit. On March 21, 1934, she would be part of one of the rarest plays in professional sports.
This early in the football season, it's still difficult to get a clear idea about the strength of any given team. Most of major conference teams have been playing against lesser competition, making it precarious to pinpoint exactly where the team sits as far as talent is concerned. It's kind of like doing a 5 Dimes review without ever visiting the website.

Rhetorical Analysis Essay: Gay Culverhouse Concussions have become a high priority head injury at all levels of football, but is being spotlighted on the National Football League (NFL) and a well-known issue among retired players who are now suffering the long-term effects of their years as football players. Today when we see a famous football player our attention is on the six figure contracts, million dollar houses, and fast cars. We don’t see the enormous pressure these players are put under and the hardships they put their bodies through every day so their families are taken care of for the rest of their lives. Gay Culverhouse, the former owner of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, has become an activist for former players through her book, Throwaway Players: The Concussion Crisis: From Pee Wee Football to the NFL. The book is filled with emotionally pulling stories and tons of statistics.
Dock Ellis was an African American baseball player for the Major Leagues. He played from 1968 through 1979. The teams he played for Pittsburgh Pirates, New York Yankees, Oakland Athletics, Texas Rangers, New York Mets. He had an amazing career although, throughout his years of playing, Ellis was under the influence of drugs as the pitched. He uses drugs as a coping mechanism. Even under the influence of drugs, Ellis was able to pitch no-hitter game. I believe he was able to do this because the LSD influence his performance. The drug may have fearless and superhuman. The LSD made him feel invincible, that how he was able to deal with the racism that came with the game. This made him angry at the time which I believe he had a right to be. Back

Clay Mathew's Sr., 6-foot-3, played for the 49ers in 1950 and from 1953-55 alongside of six Hall of Fame 49ers (Tittle, Perry, McElhenny, Johnson, Nomellini, St.Clair), during his tenure. His teammates and opponents alike described him as an outstanding defensive end. He became the starting offensive and defensive tackle in his rookie season when players played on both sides of the ball, for a full 60-minutes. “I had Bruno Banducci on one side of me and end Alyn Beals on the other side. Bill Johnson was the center,” said Mathews.

Fantasy football is becoming one of America’s favorite pastimes, along with actual football. This year over 59 million people in America and Canada will take part in a fantasy football league of some kind. So for those 59 million people, here are some early fantasy football busts that you need to be aware about.
The NFL Draft has come and gone, and many teams have vastly improved their roster for the 2017-18 season. However, several teams still have areas of need that demand addressing, even after the addition of rookie talent.
Coach Steve Rocker is one of the most successful high school basketball coaches in Kentucky’s history. Coach Rocker was very successful in previous years. Strangely, this year was very different for him. For the first time in his professional life, he is falling short of his expectations, the community expectations, and the team’s expectations. His team lost a lot of games, but most importantly the boys had no motivation or desire to bring the team out of the rut they found themselves. His players have lost their will to win, their love for their teammates, and their passion to play. Coach Rocker’s motivational methods that have always worked before and resulted in success are now failing, and he doesn’t know why. He argues that his players have become selfish and bored with winning because they have been so successful in previous years. “And there’s no question that my guys have lost their drive to win because they’ve won so much in the past. Now all they want is individual ‘wins’…which just doesn’t cut it on a team” (Gongwer, 2010, p. 17).
Concussions have caused many problems for retired NFL players. Some have gone into depression and committed suicide. In a study of 34 NFL players , about 25% suffered from clinical depression. Junior Seau was found dead in his house at 43, after he shot himself. After looking at the body they found that Seau had CTE, a horrible disease that badly affects your brain. Ex-Lions quarterback Eric Kramer shot himself in the head 2 years ago, he played 12 seasons in the NFL. Mike Webster played 16 years in the NFL and was found dead in his car under the highway. He had died of
With the increase in concussion the NFL has seen multiple “superstar” athletes retire from the game early such as, Calvin Johnson who is border line Hall of Fame numbers, Jarod Mayo who was a two-time pro bowler who should be entering in the league at his prime, B.J. Raji was a young stud for a super bowl winning team (Kurtenbach). All three athletes were 30 years old and younger (Kurtenbach). This is because the risk-reward equation for NFL players has changed dramatically, and the understanding of risk will continue to grow faster than the rewards moving forward
