On August 9, 2014 a white male police officer named Darren Wilson fatally shot an African-American male named Michael Brown to death in Ferguson, MO. An investigation was immediately launched through the collection of evidence from the crime scene, an autopsy of Michael Brown’s body, and interviews with witnesses. For several months following the shooting and after the Grand Jury met, there was immense public speculation over whether Officer Wilson justifiably shot in self-defense or in racially motivated cold blooded murder. The ballistic evidence collected from the crime scene and from the autopsy corroborated Wilson’s story that he was justified in what transpired that fateful afternoon. Prior to this incident Darren Wilson had successfully been a police officer for five years and had worked with the Ferguson Police Department for three years (interrogation). On the day in question Officer Darren Wilson was on a routine twelve-hour patrol shift from 6:30 am to 6:30 pm (interrogation). The following story is how Darren Wilson described the shooting. …show more content…
As he was driving to the described crime he encountered two black males walking together illegally down the middle of the street on the yellow line (interrogation). He drove his vehicle beside them with the driver’s side facing them, window down, and respectfully instructed them multiple times to use the sidewalk (interrogation). At this time one of them belligerently responded “Fuck what you have to say” (interrogation). Wilson proceeded to radio for an additional patrol vehicle
In the summer of 2014, 18-year-old Michael Brown was fatally shot by Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson. After the shooting, there had been conflicting reports by police and eyewitnesses about what exactly happened. Officer Wilson insist Brown was confrontational throughout the encounter, while eyewitnesses say Brown has his hands up trying to surrender before he was shot and killed. Following the Grand jury’s decision not to indict officer Wilson over the shooting of Michael Brown and similar cases of officer-involved shootings and brutality such as the death of Eric Garden in Staten Island, New York, politicians, family advocates, civil rights activists, and law enforcement officials have called for police across the country to adopt the use of body-worm cameras. Although there are many who feel police body cameras present a challenge to privacy and safety issues for both cops and civilians, by recording police-citizen encounters, it increases transparency and accountability of officers and the video recorded by body cams protect any false accusations, police misconduct, officials can get clear evidence of what happened instead of relying on hearsay.
It is one that everyone is familiar with due to its high profile coverage. Although this incident occurred in St. Louis, Missouri, it is very relevant to police shootings all over the country. As a short recap, police officer Darren Wilson shot and killed unarmed teen Michael Brown. Ultimately, Darren Wilson was not charged with any crime. Wilson, like many officers before him, argued that he was afraid for his life and therefore used his weapon in self-defense. Unfortunately, this argument has been heard many times after Michael Brown’s death as well. When Laquan McDonald was shot and killed in Chicago in 2014, Jason Van Dyke “feared for his life”; dash-camera footage, though, showed otherwise. Police personnel and city officials even went so far in this cover-up as to pay Laquan’s mother millions of dollars not to speak to the media about what happened. Although video of the shooting was available in 2014, the video itself was not released to the public until late 2015, after Rahm was re-elected to mayoral office. As more details surfaced, it then became clear to the public that not only did the officers and top law enforcement attempt to hide this incident, but the Cook County State’s Attorney was also involved. I argue that had there been more diversity on the force, or in the very least sensitivity training, maybe these officers would have seen a person and been more compassionate, instead of seeing a threat and
The incident happened August 9th, 2014. Wilson stopped Brown due to him matching a robbery suspect description. At some point during the detainment a struggle ensued, which resulted in Brown attempting to grab Wilson’s firearm. Wilson then fired one or two rounds through the door striking Brown. Officer Wilson then gave pursuit on foot and ordered Brown to stop. Brown attempted to charge Wilson at which time Wilson fired multiple shots fatally wounding Brown. Criminal investigation deemed that Wilson’s actions were in self-defense. Also noted Brown did assault Wilson, and DNA evidence showed Brown grabbed Wilson’s weapon. An incident as such can bring lawsuits against the officer or officers

The summer of 2014 in Ferguson M.O. there was a black teenager by the name of Michael Brown. Brown was shot by a white police officer at the end of that summer. When Brown was shot this caused a worldwide debate between a person's race and the policing that is done in America. After the occurrence of this shooting tensions ran high in Ferguson when it comes to race. According to BBC News, from the time that officer Darren Wilson confronted Brown, it only took three minutes from the confrontation to when backup came and found Brown dead. At the time of the shooting Dorian Johnson who was a friend of Brown’s and was there. Johnson said that everything started at the window of the police car. An unnamed witness said that officer Wilson tried to get out of his car but was pushed back in and punched. Wilson reached for his gun, and Brown grabbed it from him. This is what caused the gun to go off inside the car. She said that when Brown ran off he turned around to taunt Wilson when he was told to freeze. Brown then started to run at full speed toward Wilson, and that was when he was shot dead. The unnamed witness’s story matches the one that officer Wilson gave in front of the St. Louis grand

The current incident I would like to talk about is the shooting of Michael Brown story in Ferguson, Missouri that was occurred on august 9, 2014. Michael Brown was unarmed Black man who was shot to death by a white policer officer, Darren Wilson on Missouri street. The uncertain situations of the shooting, and resulting objections and civil conflict have caused significant argument in the United States. Eyewitness says that Brown was killed while he was trying to surrender himself from the police, but they say Brown attacked Wilson past to the shooting. In addition, they also say that Brown was in robbery before that day, but Wilson did not stop him for robbery, he stopped him for jaywalking.
Around 11:54 AM, Surveillance catches Mr. Brown stealing some cigarillos. Shortly after 12:00 PM, Officer Darren Wilson arrives, alone in his police vehicle. He starts speaking through his window and tells the two men, “Move to the sidewalk.” (Officer Wilson). He sees that Mr. Brown fits the description of a suspect in a convenience store theft. Somewhere in where Officer Wilson moves his vehicle out of traffic and to the side, he gets in an altercation with Mr. brown, who is right next to the window of the vehicle. Officer Wilson fires 2 shots from the inside of his vehicle. One barely hits Michael Brown on the thumb and the other completely missing him. “Mr. Brown runs east. Officer Wilson pursues him on foot. Mr. Brown stops and turns toward Officer Wilson, who also stops. Mr. Brown moves toward Officer Wilson, who fires several more shots. Mr. Brown is fatally wounded.” (Officer Wilson). After further investigations with this report, Officer Wilson said, “Mr. Brown reached into the vehicle and fought for my gun.” Some witnesses said Mr. Brown never moved toward Officer Wilson when he was shot and killed. Most of the witnesses said the shots were fired as he moved toward Officer
Out of the 17 police departments there were less than five settlements with four agencies since 2004. The Ferguson Police Department was one of the police departments investigated by the Department of Justice. Officer Darren Wilson, the officer that killed Michael Brown, was a police officer at the Ferguson Police Department. The investigation of Ferguson PD confirmed complaints of black men and women about police in Ferguson. Reports from these men and women said Ferguson “implicit and explicit racial bias” and are “routinely violating the constitutional right of black residents”. As a result of the investigation, more attention has been given to members of law enforcement whose mission is to protect and serve and to protect members of the citizenry from being harmed by police officers (Chaney and
It has been nearly two and a half years since the day that caused much tension in Ferguson Missouri. It was August 9th 2014, when a set of events unfolded which lead to the death of 18 year old, Michael Brown. The debate that sparked tension within this community started by witnesses claiming that Brown was killed while he was surrendering. However, other witness reports claim that Michael was being aggressive towards officer Wilson, which resulted in Brown’s death. After looking through the evidence, it is clear that officer Wilson should not have been indicted. This can be seen through the evidence of witnesses who were there when everything occurred, and the autopsy that shows Brown’s bullet wounds.
Michael Brown and Eric Garner are both victims of police brutality. Mike Brown Jr. life was taken by the hands former police officer Darren Wilson in Ferguson, Missouri. At the time Michael was 18-year-old and he had been shot at least six times, twice in the head, by a white police officer. His dead body was then left uncovered on the ground for the public view of family and neighbors. The scene was nightmarish. This critical moment in contemporary United States history was not a beautiful beginning. The Department of Justice found that Brown physically attacked Wilson and attempted to grab his gun. Wilson then allegedly shot Brown in self-defense. and the brutal repression against the Ferguson protests that came in response, were sparks
On August 9, 2014 18-year old Michael Brown was shot and killed by 28-year old Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson in St. Louis. Darren Wilson was on route to a robbery at a convenience store and approached Michael Brown and his friend. There was a conflict between the two and the truth is not known after this. This event has many different speculations on what occurred that day. Some believe that the Police officer had a right to shoot and kill Brown but many believe that the shooting was unjustified and the police officer only killed him because of the color of his skin rather than what Brown was actually doing. Darren Wilson claims that Michael brown grabbed for the police officers
Here 're my main views and points on the Michael Brown shooting. I would like to start off by saying, As could be predicted, the demonization of Mike Brown has begun. You see, he stole some cigars. Therefore he deserved to be shot in the back. The fact that the Ferguson cop Darren Wilson was the shooter was almost an afterthought in this press conference. The main was to say that Brown stole cigars before the shooting and that Wilson was apparently on the lookout for him. What also should have communicated to police from the 911 dispatches, however, was that the cigar store robbery was not an armed robbery, Wilson, who ultimately found and killed Brown, should have known even if he was apprehending Brown he was unarmed when he shot Brown, according to the witnesses accounts. Brown’s empty hands were in the air when he was fatally shot.
