My two texts are “The Namesake” and “Bend it like Beckham”. Our prescribed text, Jhumpa Lahiris “The Namesake” explores the link to belonging in detail. The emphasis is on Gogol Ganguli. Gogol struggles with a sense of belonging to his family and his Bengali culture and heritage throughout his life in the course of the novel. Born and raised in the U.S., while his parents spent their entire life in India following Bengali culture and practices and moved on to America as young adults. Gogol must try to find a sense of belonging as he deals with trying to belong in American society, while following his Bengali traditions. This shares many similarities with Jesmindar Bhamra, the main character in my related text, “Bend it Like Beckham”. The

In “Masters of Desire: The Culture of American Advertising,” Professor of English Jack Solomon elaborates, “We Americans dream of rising above the crowd, of attaining a social summit beyond the reach of ordinary citizens” (Solomon 402). In America the common goal amongst citizens is to achieve the American dream and in doing so to separate oneself from the common folk. Brady has done just that. He is speaking from personal experience and he has the background to support it. Tom Brady has earned the distinction of being a household name throughout America for his successes in the NFL and thus his underdog story is well known.

Is it a compliment or the kiss of death to say that every sexy, skinny skittish number in Christian Louboutin's show on Wednesday would look a treat on Victoria Beckham? The former Posh Spice and the wife of football icon David Beckham is a byword for the polished sexiness that is still Christian Louboutin's mantra a year after Tom Ford's last collection.

What you want in comparison to what your family expects form you is a common disagreement through most family households. In the movie ‘Bend it like Beckham’ we saw the conflict between jess and her parents on how they feel and what they want for her, how jess sees the situation and how it is resolved. Throughout Jess’s journey she is constantly pulled in what she truly wants and what here family/culture expects (internal conflict).
In order to become famous at soccer you have to be active. As Pele once stated “ success is no accident. It is hard work and perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all love of what you are doing or learning to do.”Pele and his family were poor, they couldn’t afford to buy young Pele a soccer ball so they stuffed a sock for him to play with. He often skipped school to play soccer. After 4th grade he dropped out, He started shining shoes and roasted peanuts for a little bit of money. That still didn’t stop him from playing soccer, he still found a way to play soccer and even made his own team with his friends.
To be one of the best in the world at any sport there will need to be sacrifices in the way you eat, drink and generally live. Such as no alcohol or drugs, no going out at night and less time to spend with family and friends.
