The person I have chosen to do my scenario on is David Lee Gavitt, who not only was tried and convicted of arson and sent to prison, but had to grieve the death of his family from the fire as well. On March 9, 1985, David and his wife, Angela, went up to their bedroom to have sexual intercourse. While in their room doing their thing, the dog began to scratch on the door. Once David opened the door he was met by fire. He instructed his wife to round up their children and get out. David crawled to a back room with a window, broke it out and called for his wife. When she did not answer, he attempted to go find them, but the fire was too hot and was unable to locate them. Ultimately, David escaped the fire out the window he broke. David was tried
Three of four students in Payette, Idaho, were arrested for a fire on February 22, 2016. "Paul Hendrix-Mills, 14 and Donovan Ferreira, 16, are each charged with arson and conspiracy to commit arson…Travis Kenney, 14 and another 15-year-old defendant are charged with conspiracy to commit arson" (KTVB). The unnamed student who is not in custody yet is expected to be arrested soon.
The New York City Triangle Waist Company fire was a disastrous event that paved the road for Progressive Era reforms. A day after the fire, there was an article, “Death List Shows Few Identified,” published by the New York Times listing the identifiable and unidentifiable dead and the injured. Because of the revealed appalling working conditions and the gruesome deaths the workers came to, the reader now desires to join the Progressive movement for improved working conditions and factory safety. The historical Triangle Waist Company fire resulted in not only local factory reforms but national factory reforms as well as increased women’s rights. The “Death List Shows Few Identified” article provides a statistical representation and depiction
On the night of 21st June 1979, nearly six months before the Hastie fire, Rosabell Fenton was preparing for bed when she saw a figure of a man stood by her front door. The figure moved away when he became aware that he had been seen. She was convinced it was “Daft Peter”, who she knew and had shouted at earlier that day as he was loitering on her porch acting
The Triangle Shirtwaist Fire not only affected the city of New York, but also the rest of the country. It forever changed the way our country would look at safety regulations in factories and buildings. The fire proved to America what can and will happen if we over-look safety regulations and over-crowd buildings. Unfortunately, 146 lives are taken before we fully understand this concept.
Fire district 13 is located in the forested valleys and steep foothills of the Cascade Mountain Range at the base of Mount St. Helens. Access to our district, primarily reached by one main county road, is limited. With automatic mutual aid to neighboring districts with, major rail, and freeway- interoperability is key. Located above the Cascadia Subduction zone, Clark County is due for a catastrophic earthquake. The area that includes fire district 13 is a transitional zone between unoccupied forest land and human development. Being a part of the wildland urban interface zone puts us at a higher risk for wildfires.
From the time the Graham Fire and Rescue crew got the call, it took them three minutes to arrive on scene at the Powell residence fire. Upon arrival, the department’s assistant chief stated that the fire was “burning hot” and already through the roof (Reavy, 2012). Based upon statements made by the social worker and the short amount of time in which it took first responders to arrive on scene, the incipient stage of the fire could not have lasted more than a minute. The social worker claimed to have smelled gas when Josh Powell took his children inside the house and pushed her away. The gasoline helped fuel the fire, and as it expanded, it grew in heat and intensity (Young & Ortmeier, 2011). There is no mention of a backdraft, which means
Matthew, Josh, and Dylan stood in rapt silence as they gazed over the beauteous sky.
Cases like these usually involve drugs, murder, or arson. In one case, three men were convicted on six counts of murder for starting a fire in a building that killed a mother and five children. This conviction was made because the owner of the building claimed that she saw the men leaving before the fire. All of the men’s wives gave a testimony as proof to show that the men were nowhere near the scene of the crime. The court disregarded their testimony and sentenced all three men to 25 years to life in prison.
In this specific scenario, Caroline failed to report John freely admitting that he wants to set his foster mother’s car on fire. Caroline also did not document this thoroughly in the case note. As a professional, if a case like this brings questioning and concern, it lies in caseworker’s duty to report this to either her supervisor or the CEO of the agency where she works.
“I’ve gone crazy behind these bars!” Robert growled to his very creepy friend in the cell with him. His name is Gus. "From what I know, we should be able to kick these doors down at ease” Robert squeaked with excitement. “Fire, we need fire!” Robert said as Gus handed him a box of matches. Robert made a face that showed confusion, “Everyone was able to sneak at least one box of matches in”. He then continued, he lit the bar door on fire he then kicked it open with his leg and begin to run. “Why are you running? Please walk to cell 68C, it will take a few minutes to get rid of this fire.” The guard said. Out of nowhere all the criminals lit their doors on fire, kicked it down and made a run for it. The run was very long from the cells to the exits, Robert lost his breath midway. He couldn’t breathe, his calves burned, his heels killing him, negative thoughts filled his head Will I make it? Should I just stop? Is anyone dead now? Some of the guards were chasing the criminals, some were getting help. He made it to the exit, safe. He couldn’t believe it He stopped, looked over his shoulder and stood there while all the criminals were escaping. In front of him there were firefighters, one firefighter dropped her equipment on the floor and ran. He took the firefighter gear and grabbed a hose from the other firefighter. Merely minutes later the fire was gone with the guilt, luckily only 3 injuries. He saw the guards, turned his back towards the guard and put his

The Arsonist is a play that is set back in time and doesn’t have any sort of central theme. Most people would say it's extremely confusing and has no point. The playwright of the play Max Frisch wrote the Arsonist following post World War Two, so the concept of the communists taking over was strongly prevalent. During this time, he was witnessing people who acted more as bystanders rather than facing the catastrophe that was right in front of them. The play starts out by introducing Biedermann, whom is a wealthy man that lives in town that has recently become the focus for a series of arson attacks.
Thousands of fires occur on a yearly basis throughout the United States. Whether it is forest fires, house fires, or any other event that involves uncontrollable flames, the outcome will always be the same; high amounts of destruction and physical damage. When fire emergencies occur, responding to the incident may not be much of a complication as apposed to determining the source from where the fire started or what triggered its behavior, which is truly the challenge. In order to do so, a fire investigator has to be present at the scene of the fire after it has been eliminated. The investigator, after reviewing any possible marks or behavior trails, will conclude if the incident was indeed an accident or intentional, thus making it an act
Arson is “any willful or malicious burning or attempt to burn, with or without intent to defraud, a dwelling house, public building, motor vehicle or aircraft, [or] personal property of another” (Bartol & Bartol, 2011. P 463). Arson comes in many forms – juveniles vandalizing property, businesses trying to collect insurance money, and murderers covering up their crimes are just a few of the examples arson investigators deal with. The reasons why arson is committed and the psychology behind arson are as diverse as the crime itself. There is no one perfect psychological profile of an arsonist. Young, old, educated, illiterate, sane, insane, rich and poor all can become arsonists. With such a wide range of suspect characteristics,
