I would like about whether or not the United States should abolish the death penalty. The United States should not abolish this because those who commit a capital felony which is punishable by imprisonment or death, should serve a capital punishment which is the death penalty. Many believe that certain crimes such as rape and murder should punishable by the death penalty. Although many also see it as inhumane, many also view murder and rape as inhumane. One can view this as part of Hammburi’s Code law that states “An eye for an eye.” Capital punishment has ben around for thousands of years; beginning even before the ancient Greeks and Romans. At that time, there were many different ways to carry out capital punishment such as, beheading, stoning and electrocution (PBS).

The most important reason why the death penalty should not be abolished is because we need capital punishment for those cases in which a killer is beyond redemption. “Some claim lift without parole is an appropriate alternative to the death penalty” (23). Others say if you kill, you should be killed or if you commit a crime that is bad that you should be killed. “According to Gallup polls, 60 percent of Americans support the death penalty for a person convicted of murder” (23). The death penalty, or capital punishment, has been around as early as the Seventh Century B.C. and is still used in many countries today, including the United States. There are many arguments stating capital punishment should be abolished for many reasons, including that capital punishment violates the Bill of Rights, and life in prison is a more effective deterrent than capital punishment; there are also counter-arguments, saying that capital punishment should not be abolished for reasons such as capital punishment achieves justice for those who have been wronged and that it brings a sense of closure to families.

America’s strategy of capital punishment believes that killing someone actually solves the problem of reducing crime rates, when in reality it is more of a method to avoid the real issue with the criminal justice system. We are killing all these prisoners and not really getting the answers we need. For instance, are we really stopping crime? Also, the death penalty puts innocent lives at risk because of how flawed it is. Since the introduction of the death penalty in the United States in 1976, 138 innocent men and women have been released from Death Row, including some who came within minutes of execution with the death penalty. Therefore, I am against the death penalty and wish for it to be terminated due to the fact that it is morally wrong and has little to no impact when it comes to reducing crimes rates. This makes it practically useless and straight-up stupid; it also distracts us to a point of making us avoid the true ways to actually reduce crime in America.

The death penalty is one of the worst punishments for criminals. There are so many problems rooted in the death penalty.I believe we should get rid of the death penalty because they could be killing an innocent person that has been convicted. We should also get rid of the death penalty because killing someone is more expensive than keeping them in jail for life.People on death row are promised a quick death not a slow and painful one but there have been times when prisoners are taking longer to die and its more painful than it should be.

The death penalty is a good source of punishment because if a person commits a murder they deserves to be punished. However, the death penalty is cruel, inhuman and degrading. The death penalty disregards the eight amendment; which states that “Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted” (U.S Constitution). The death penalty is unconstitutional because it violation of the eight Amendment. The death penalty serves as a double negative. Why kill someone for committing a murder? The death penalty does not solve the crime, fix the problems that were caused by the crime, or teach anyone a lesson. Not only does the death penalty violate the eight amendment it also violates basic human rights.

What we need is a clear solution or a view how we are going to come to a decision on either if we should rid the death penalty once for all or keep it. I believe that death penalty, such as electrocution or lethal injection is very pricy. The practice itself is also very barbaric. Death penalty promotes vengeance rather than justice. No justice system is perfect and innocent people may get convicted of a crime that they never committed. There have been many instances where the innocent good civilian has been found guilty and later released because of the false conviction. If we are using capital punishment, there is no way to reverse what has been done. But one may argue that the death penalty can actually enforce the law better, and if it isn’t painful it isn’t barbaric. They also may argue that if there are strong laws to enforce what we are trying to do, the crime rate might go

Many people may be aware there is a punishment for convicts known as the death penalty, also known as capital punishment. This penalty allows the state to put a convicted man or woman to death by: lethal injection, lethal gas, electrocution, or a firing squad. For many years protestors have been pushing for states to abolish the ability of sentencing someone to death for committing a crime. It is more reasonable to utilize the death penalty than to abolish it. The death penalty should not be abolished because (1) it deters people from committing murder and (2) because the death penalty gives peace of mind to the victims and their families and puts an end to the crime.

The justice system is bound to make mistakes and so, the accused people should be given a chance to appeal, and prove their innocence other than being murdered because of mistakes made by judges. Another reason for the death penalty to be abolished is the numbers of mistaken deaths there has been. In Alabama, ten men were wrongfully executed and proven to be innocent afterwards. Earl Charles spoke before the death penalty committee last year to try to abolish the death penalty. He was put on death row for a murder he did not commit and was proven innocent before he was executed (America Magazine). In addition, many inmates are not mentally stable and are subjected to the death sentence when they should be put in a psychiatric hospital to receive the treatment they need. Statistically, one out of ten people executed were mentally ill (Amnesty International). Although their actions were wrong, they are mentally unstable, especially during their trials. However, there are some kills that are narcissists and feed off of the publicity. They are proud of what they have done and their execution would give them the publicity that they don’t deserve. Likewise, a poor defense has gotten people sentenced to death. Many times the defendant would lack money, while the victim’s family is able to hire a good defense. Finally, death by execution goes against almost every religion. This makes people question the morality behind it. The aftermath of it affects the people that perform the execution too. Capital crime is something that is meant for people that are found guilty of committing a serious crime, such as murder, rape, or theft. These are offences that should not be taken lightly but by killing the offender, the government is carrying about the action that they are trying to prevent. Also, the wrong person may be sentenced to death. After this person is executed, there is obviously nothing that can be done for the terrible mistake to be reversed. The death penalty should be abolished because it is more expensive than life imprisonment, numerous innocent people are condemned to death row, and it is cruel and inhumane.

The issue of the death penalty is widely disputed. So disputed that maybe I shouldn’t have picked this topic. But nevertheless, the death penalty is an issue that needs to be addressed. Should the death penalty be abolished from our criminal justice system? Well, that depends on whom you ask. If you ask me… no. I personally don’t see anything wrong with the death penalty because there are a lot of criminals that are just too dangerous to society and death is the only punishment they deserve.

The death penalty has been around for many centuries; But is it okay to execute people for their wrongdoings to show justice, when taking that person’s life is equally wrong, especially when it’s premeditated? There are many reasons to be against capital punishment. Some reasons are because it is uncivilized, Inhumane, violates Human Rights, shows discrimination of color and it is expensive. Why is it up to the Supreme Court to take a human life away?
