Debbie Allen was born to Vivian Ayers and Arthur Allen on January 16, 1950. At age three she started dancing and at age four she knew she wanted to be a professional dancer. Her parents divorced in 1957, and her mother was Debbie and her siblings were encouraged to be creative and independent. In 1960, Vivian Ayers took her children to Mexico. When they came back to Texas, Debbie auditioned for the Houston Ballet School but was denied because the color of her skin. A Russian teacher at the school saw Debbie perform and secretly enrolled her. When she was sixteen, she auditioned for the North Carolina School of the Arts but was rejected because her body was “unsuited” for ballet. Del Kathryn Barton (born 11 December 1972) is an Australian artist, who won the 2008 and 2013 Archibald Prizes. Barton studied at the College of Fine Arts of the University of New South Wales. She then graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1993. Later on in her life she employed for a college and became a lecturer. But before she won the Archibald Prize she became famous for painting, Barton was well known for erotic charged ink and watercolour pieces.
On October 3, 1984, Christine Jessop was reported missing by her parents. There were no signs of the nine year old girl despite the search by police and many community volunteers until over 3 months later, where she was discovered dead over 50 kilometres from her home on December 31, 1984. She was killed by multiple stab wounds, and police investigators believed she was also raped, supported by the physical evidence that is the discovered semen stains on her underwear. She was sexually assaulted before being stabbed to death.

Ruby's parents, Gladys Hightower and Marshall Wallace only had one child and that was ruby. Ruby's real name was actually Ruby Ann Wallace but she change it when she married her first husband Frankie Dee Brown but soon after she divorced after five years and kept his last name. When she got older, she married Ossie Davis and soon after started having children, Nora day, Guy Davis, Hasna Davis.

Born October 3, 1810 to William Henry Lynn and Sarah Mae Lynn, her vision to be an inspiring Civil Rights Activist would be the biggest challenge of her life. Her father, William was a slave captured in Angola, Africa in broad daylight and her mother, Sarah was a daughter of slaves from Guinea. Free blacks in the South couldn’t express how they felt and wasn’t able to travel as freely as the free slaves in the Northern cities. In 1914, Ida Ellison was screaming in pain in her Oklahoma City home. Lewis Ellison paced the hallways and held his wife’s hand, he was waiting for the birth of his second son. His first son had died before Lewis and Ida moved to Oklahoma. On March 1st, their child, a son, burst into the world, an innocent baby in his family's home. Lewis named his son Ralph Waldo Emerson, in honor of Ralph Waldo Emerson, and both parents hoped their newborn son would grow up to become a poet. Even though during the 1900’s births in the hospital were becoming more common, in frontier states like Oklahoma they were still a relatively unheard of idea. Ida and Lewis had moved to Oklahoma City years prior, with hopes of shielding their children from the racism that they and their ancestors had faced.
Beth Brown is an African American woman who studied astrophysics. Astrophysics is an area of science which applies physical laws discovered on Earth to phenomena throughout the cosmos. Cosmos is the world or universe regarded as an orderly, harmonious system (Dictionary.com). Beth is a very appreciated and inspiring astronomer. An astronomer is an expert in or student of astronomy. She was an inspiration to women and minorities in encouraging them to pursue their careers in astronomy/physics. Beth Brown died at the age of 39 due to a pulmonary embolism. When she died, the astronomical community lost one of its most buoyant and caring individuals (Bregman 1).
Debbie Reynolds, born April 1, 1932, was an American and international idol that fostered the finest ideals of the musician and the acting profession. She had a career that embraced many lifestyle shaping facets, including culture, politics, religion, etc. These paved the way for her to achieve the life she lived. Unfortunately a recent string of events unfolded which led to the unfortunate demise of Debbie Reynolds, ending her role in cultural transformation. Mrs. Angle grew up with her sister throughout her childhood and life, Her sister is 3 years older. Her family lived in military barrack in Canada. She says “Living like that was hard most of the time”. She first went to a Balsz Elementary in Canada. She says “Canada’s schools are way more stricter than United State’s schools”. Her father was in Canadian Army in WW2. At age 10, Barbara and her family moved to Arizona because of her father’s arthritis. The treatment was in Arizona, so that is where they went. When she first went into a U.S. elementary school, she thought it was recess time. Turns out that is how the class was naturally, It surprised her that schools were like that. She went to Phoenix Union High School, which closed in 1982. Their high school mascot were the Coyotes. She graduated with the class of ‘61. She didn’t go into the military or go to college. She married right out of high school. She married her husband at 19 years old. She was married to Chuck Buchanan on September 1st, 1961. Chuck died at 50 from a brain tumor. They had 2 sons together. Our theme for this Meeting of the Minds project is “Famous Actresses of the 1950’s.” This is a broad theme and I had many choices to choose from, however, I knew who I was going to base my project on right away. I chose to write my biography on the beautiful and famous actress, Debbie Reynolds. Born on April 1, 1932 in El Paso, Texas, Debbie Reynolds held a career as one of the most famous actresses of her time. Debbie Reynolds has been someone I’ve looked up to ever since I first found out about her and what she does.
