De Beers advertising and pricing
DeBeers is considered one of the most powerful mining in the world and not because of their top quality products but because monopolistic values. The DeBeers corporation has been called ‘The most unethical corporation in the world’ by the St Antoninus Institute because of all the unethical issues that have been linked to DeBeers. DeBeers defies all standards of business standards conduct on a grand scale, in particular to the pricing of their diamonds and use of their advertising media.

Cartels destroy fair market competition and are considered to be an example of unethical conduct. Cartels have the greatest impact in increasing the price of the commodity well beyond what is considered acceptable and fair market price, this causes an exorbitant and unreasonable prices. One of DeBeers’s unethical scandals was that they would withhold diamonds so that they could make as if there was a shortage of diamonds so they could raise the prices on the diamonds they sold. DeBeers is not only unethical towards the public who buys their diamonds but also to distributors and retailers around the world. DeBeers practises with price fixing and putting pressure on distributors and retailers show that they behaviour is to their behaviour however their effect on others is negative. Even in the way that they have dishonest advertising benefits them because people will buy more diamonds which will increase their profits but the end consumer has spent more money on a diamond that they were told would last forever. Their dishonest advertising negatively affect people. Also cartels eliminate competition and people are forced to buy over priced diamonds, this is another example of how DeBeers business conduct has had a negative
The provincial government supplements the agency’s budget by paying for the service work my agency does for their clients. The 9:00 am time slot has been reserved for health ministry and child protection authority referrals. It is prepaid by the provincial government. By booking an EAP client in a provincial government slot the agency is illegally profiting because they are getting paid twice for one client. According to BCACC code of ethics (2014) the RCC will “avoid exploitation of others for personal, professional, or financial gain” (p. 7), it is my responsibility to act with the “highest integrity possible in every situation” (BCACC Code of Ethics, 2008, p. 7). Thus, I would have to avoid conflicts of interest between me, my agency, and my supervisor. I would seek advisory from my association or an external supervisor regarding this conflict. I am also concerned about the well-being of the provincial government’s clients (Board of Directors, 2014, p. 6), and their right for counselling service.

Daley (1972) wrote an article in the Personnel and Guidance Journal calling for a reform in counseling hiring and electing practices within the American Personnel and Guidance Association (APGA), later known as the American Counseling Association (ACA). The crystal stair terminology Dr. Daley refers to (p. 494) is a saying that illustrates a life that is full of hardships, a climb to the proverbial top that is neither easy or smooth. While Dr. Daley remained hopeful that a tide was starting to turn, over 40 years later, progress has been lackluster. According to the American Psychological Association (2015), racial and ethnic minority groups account for less than one-fifth of the mental health workforce in 2013. This indicates the crystal stairs are still full of hardships for minority practitioners and clients within the profession.

Price fixing and exclusive dealings are harmful for consumers and small businesses trying to compete with large businesses. Nurses are faced with making difficult decisions for theirs patients on a daily occurrence. “The STOP model helps decision makers by reminding them to consider all elements and make a best rational choice to fit the situation.” (Godfrey & Crigger, 2012, p. 35) When faced with a daunting choice a nurse can use the STOP Model to help them decipher what exactly to do without becoming overwhelmed. Health professionals are required to act and behave in a certain manner in accordance with their profession. Therefore specific statements, ethical guidelines, and codes of conduct are created and introduced to each health discipline to assist practitioners in providing safe and effective client care. These standards such as being competent, trustworthy and respectful are important factors that influence an individual's professional identity and the way the public views them. Ultimately each health profession has these rules and regulations to improve patients overall health and for each professional to have a healthy, strong relationship with
After reading the ANA code of ethics there are various aspects that can relate back to nursing informatics. However, the main sections I would like to discuss would be; provisions two, three, seven, eight and nine.
While the foreigners were diamond hunting, the African people continued to mine for gold. Soon, though, the diamond industry lost its popularity which an enormous amount of gold was found near present day Johannesburg. Many of the businessmen that had made fortunes in the diamond industry left and established a series of gold-mining companies. Once again the native African people were being taken over by the foreigners.
The diamond industry impacts the people of West Africa by creating a whirlwind of corruption on a political level. In sierra Leone diamonds were a valuable part of the land and they were once legitimately sold up until Sierra Leone became independent in 1961. The following years of their independence corruption flooded the land. According to an online research paper it says “with that independence came corrupt leaders, manipulation of the people , rebel groups, rivalries and civil disputes”. The correlation implies that the diamond industry has created an environment that leaves people at risk of violence, and unfair treatment by their government. The longer the diamond industry is in effect, the longer West African people will suffer from the world market demanding diamonds. Because of globalization it doesn’t look
The SJSU iSchool's MLIS Program coursework requires that students demonstrate awareness of the ethics, values, and foundational principles of one of the information professions, and discuss the importance of intellectual freedom within that profession. The standard of professional conduct within library culture in America is set by the American Library Association's Code of Ethics.
