Decision-making in the workforce is a process of responsibilities used by upper management to implement, enforce rules, regulations, and maintain a successful environment. Decision-making implemented more effectively by making a plan, thinking it through, accepting more than one opinion and determining what is best. However, decision-making often utilized more effectively by opening doors of opportunities for a suggestion, question, discussion, and feedback. Although, more involvement helps improve understanding, utilize behavior skills and present opportunities for better communication. The "cumbersome processes" waste resources, lead to "unaccountable voids in coverage," and also a "loss of information," all of which are serious concerns to all patients and especially those with chronic conditions (Institute of Medicine, 2001, p.1). The goals for improving the current system include creating a safer, more effective and patient-centered health care experience. Services should be delivered in a timely, efficient, and equitable way (Institute of Medicine, 2001). In order to reach these goals, the Institute of Medicine (2001) suggests ten rules for redesign. All healthcare organizations should already be following these rules in order to deliver quality care. San Diego's Sharp HealthCare center is one organization that is doing its best to meet the goals as stated by the Institute of Medicine, and work within the ten rules framework for redesign and fundamental change.

My highest style for decision-making is Directive, where I have low tolerance for ambiguity but I am efficient, rational, and logical in the way I think. I am focused on short term and quick to make decisions with minimal information and not carefully analyzing other alternatives. My lowest style would be behavioral, where someone with this style will work well with others, are open to suggestions, and are concerned about the achievements of their team.
