The Declaration of Independence was formed resulting from the treatment of 13 colonies from the British government without representation after subsequent denials to be represented and treated equal. This historic document was revolutionary because it’s what began the transition of our government into a democracy unlike that of parliament in the 1700’s. The British government and their ruling made decisions that didn’t involve what was right for the people; only what was in the best economic interest of parliament. This caused significant hardships on the American colonies which eventually led to them coming together as a people and forming this declaration.

The American Revolution marked the beginning of a new era for America, independence from Great Britain. The greatest military power in the world at the time had lost control of one of her most wealthy and rewarding colonies. However, a question arises to who won the war for the colonies? George Washington was the leader of the Continental Army during the war and was mildly successful. However it was in fact the brave and fearless efforts of the militia to rise to the occasion and fight alongside Continental troops, so brilliantly that George Washington proclaimed after the victory at Princeton:

The British were over confident and made poor decisions, whereas George Washington carefully thought out his tactics. The colonists used Guerilla Warfare, and militia were quick and often popped out from behind trees to attack. Using this type of warfare was very beneficial to the Colonists, as it did not give the British enough time to shoot the colonists before they were killed. Guerrilla Warfare was known to “weaken the enemy” (McDougal,210). By focusing on winning small battles, in their own land, the colonists were able to keep enough supplies, food and men to eventually win the war. In the battle of Yorktown, “British general Cornwallis set up his base, located on a peninsula” (McDougal, 209), which was a bad move on their part. Washington saw the opportunity and made the smart decision to block the one land entrance, so that the British could no longer get any supplies that they needed. When our founding fathers agreed on seceding from Great Britain, the goal was to let loose from the leash that King George III had the colonies tied to. Although the Declaration of Independence was a turning point in American history, it is bested by the era of Salutary Neglect. Long before the Declaration of Independence, Salutary Neglect caused a sense of unity and purpose along with the experience of new liberties, and a religious awakening.

When the colonists came from Great Britain, they didn't have much knowledge on how to run a strong government. They first created the Articles of Confederation, but it didn't last very long. In the middle of the 1776, in Philadelphia, the people had chosen to have the Continental Congress meeting. During this meeting they discussed how they would like to declare independence from Great Britain. Thomas Jefferson had taken on the role of writing the Declaration of Independence.

The American colonists fought for many years to achieve their independence from Britain. Risking their lives in war and petition, they rebelled and demonstrated their passion for freedom. They were prepared to sacrifice their very lives fighting for the freedoms to which they were entitled. The American colonists were justified in uprising and separating from Britain due to the constant oppression they were under from British rule. They were expected to pay extreme taxes, held in disdain by the British, ruled by a King insensitive to their welfare, and severely damaged by his control.

In 1776, Thomas Jefferson wrote one of the most important documents in history, it basically broke us up with Britain. His reason of writing this document was to become free from England and he wasn’t the only one, he had thousands and thousands of men and women who wanted to become free from England. Thomas wrote many reason why the US wanted to break up with them and they were legit. The declaration of Independence supported the ideal of equality.

The Declaration of Independence set the basis for our constitution and government today. The Declaration of Independence not only shaped the United States, but shaped many other countries all over the world as well. The Declaration was a long list of grievances against the british which recognized America’s succeeding from Great Britain. The Declaration of Independence has multiple ideals, but which are more important? Some of the more important ideals in the declaration of independence include Equality, life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, consent of the governed, and being able to alter or abolish the government. However, the most important ideals are Equality, consent of the governed, and the right to alter or abolish the government.

American Independence takes place right after the Seven Years War, which was between French and Indians. During the same year, Pontiac rebellion also took place led by chief pontiac towards the colonist stating that colonies could no longer settle west towards the Appalachian Mountains. There was also signing of Treaty of paris, in which britain recognized American independence and put a stop on all revolutionary wars between them. This also puts the an end an salutary neglect and Britain was left with a huge war debt that was impossible for them to pay it off by themselves. Which led them passing Sugar act, Currency act and other acts to raise revenue by using colonists as their main source of income.

The spirit of freedom led the western colonies to fight for the independence from Britain. Indeed, it was not going to be easy, but the courage, willingness, and faith of many of the Patriots was the key to overcome the biggest army of the world. Despite of the scarcity of supplies, illness, and cold weather the colonies were moved by their faith along with help and supplies from France. Also, the political organization of the colonies strengthened the victory in America. If it had not been for the optimism of the settlers and initiative of the revolutionary leaders, George Washington would have lost the American Revolution.

The Bill of Rights, the United States Constitution, and Declaration of Independence are three of the most important documents U.S. history. These documents are important because they are the rules and freedoms that this country was built upon. Some people may look at them and think that they are meaningless, or that they are simply a bunch of old papers that difficult to understand. They might be old and difficult to understand but in reality they are what makes the U.S. a free country. One question people might ask is “What do each of these documents mean?” The Declaration of Independence was written to represent freedom from British rule, it is divided into four sections the introduction, preamble, indictment, and conclusion. The Constitution is the establishment of U.S. laws, and the Bill of Rights are the first ten amendments that list our basic rights and put limits on our federal government.

The American colonies’ victory in the Revolutionary War rewarded them with independence from England and allowed them to begin a new nation of states. Political, diplomatic, and military factors were a huge role in their prized independence.

My document is going to analyze the “United States Declaration of Independence” which was published on July 4th, 1776. It was written by Thomas Jefferson and adopted by the Second Continental Congress, states the reasons the British colonies of North America sought independence in July of 1776. The declaration opens with a preamble describing the document's necessity, in explaining why the colonies have overthrown their ruler, and chosen to take their place as a separate nation, and to be independent in the world. The United States of America only has a little over two hundred years of history, but it is the most powerful country in this world. I want to study what could cause this country with such a short history to become so powerful.
