For this research topic I chose violence and how it affected children, adults, as well as families. This could information that occurred present or in the past to participants. This is a subject is one that would interesting to many people due to the nature of the topic and the effect it has or could have on many people.
I feel like the topic was broad, but could be focused in on one certain topic if needed. There were so many avenues that could be explored regarding this topic. There could be child abuse, verbal abuse, or mental abuse. There is a wide range of topic for this paper. However, it was suggest I begin with observations and life experiences. There have been situations I witness, but these acts are through work related stories and issues.

“Research is deductive when it begins by crafting a theoretical statement that explains why something is happening in the real world. This step is completed prior to data collection and should be deduced from already established theories”. (Dudley, 2011) With this being said information could be gathered in person and took back and reviewed for further avenues and thoughts. I will research the topic through several scholarly sources, the Capella library, as well as personal events. All these together will help me establish a well maintained report on the topic to help others.

One cannot simply state a theory or intervention method works without providing supporting evidence. Competency 4: Engage in Practice-Informed Research and Research Informed Practice affirms that social workers utilize interventions and apply theories based on what has been reinforced through research. Yet, social workers also recognize that practice can lead to the discovery of topics that have not been or contain little research surrounding an issue, resource, idea, or case. Moreover, we will never know everything about any topic, because practice derives from multi-disciplinary sources and multiple ways of knowing. To demonstrate my proficiency in the area of research and research informed practice, I have provided three artifacts: a literature review, research proposal, and a social and behavioral sciences training - responsible conduct of research certificate obtained upon the
Beginning with the urban drug wars and the Rodney King riot all the way up the spectacular lynchings in Texas and Wyoming, and now the mass murder/terrorist strike by teenagers in their own high school, the 90s is a decade made numb by civil disorder.
Within this assignment there will be a clear demonstration and understanding of the concept of research in relation to the acquisition of underpinning knowledge appropriate to my programme of study. I will also be undertaking a comparative analysis of the nature and validity of quantitative and qualitative research methods. I will also be demonstrating skills in critical analysis of methods of data collection and selection of appropriate methods to informing future working practice. I will also be analyse the ethical considerations in relation to the development and undertaking of research.
This assignment will describe the forms of abuse which may be experienced by adults; describing indicators that abuse may be happening to adults. It will then look at factors that may lead to abusive situations and assess the possible immediate effects of two different forms of abuse. The abuse that will be specifically looked at will be sexual and financial abuse, further extending by evaluating the potential long term effects of the two types of abuse.
However, most of us know that the media is not the most reliable source of information.

In most circumstances, family and loved ones are usually seen as the most reliable support systems that a person can have. However, there are certain circumstances in which family members are the ones who are creating the problems. One of the prominent issues that can potentially occur within families involves domestic violence, with the victim usually being a woman. With most family matters, those who are looking from the outside are usually hesitant in intervening with those types of personal issues. In order to reduce the occurrence of domestic violence, there must be assistance and training provided for all of the parties involved. This includes providing assistance to the victim, perpetrator, and third parties in order for change
Millions of adults each year in the USA are affected by intimate partner violence (IPV). “The National Violence Against Women (NVAW) survey conducted from November, 1995 to May, 1996 indicates that each year an estimated 8.5 million intimate partner victimizations occur among the US population ages 18 and older” (Fang & Corso, 2008, p. 303). “As recognition of IPV as a serious societal problem increases, more attention has been directed to risk and protective factors for IPV perpetration, especially the link between child maltreatment, victimization and future perpetration of IPV” (Fang & Corso, 2008, p. 303). More than 80 percent of all victims are maltreated by one or both parents. Several studies have found that children who have experienced child maltreatment (neglect, physical abuse, or sexual abuse) are more likely as adults to conduct IPV. Of these children, 54 percent suffered neglect, while almost a quarter, 23 percent, suffered physical abuse and nearly 12 percent of the victims were sexually abused (Fang & Corso, 2008).
Social workers have a responsibility to provide effective services to clients. Practitioners utilize many theories, approaches, and interventions to ensure that the client’s needs are met. These tools are not chosen at random, much consideration is put into which theoretical framework or intervention a practitioner will employ. In order to provide a clear rationale for the tools utilized a practitioner must employ evidence based practice. The definition for evidence based practice is a comprehensive process (Katsikis, 2014, p. 260). According to Aveyard and Sharp (2013), evidence based practice encompasses several principles (p. 6). One principle of evidence based practice is ensuring our rationale is succinct, up to date and based on the best
Violence is a common issue not only in The United States, but all around the world. There are many forms of violence such as domestic violence, sexual assault and rape, and murders. About every twenty seconds a person becomes the victim of domestic abuse ( Domestic Violence n.d.). One and six women are victims of sexual assault or rape ( Thinking of Ways to Help?, n.d.). This is an issue typically not addressed or prevented. There are ways people can be taught to help prevent domestic violence, sexual assault, and even possibly murder from a family member.
Also, the violences, homicides, suicides reported sounds like a more reliable data source for this problem (see the next note). I would suggest talking with a TA to clarify the scope of this project is appropriate.
Topic: Sexual abuse is a common and controversial issue that can happen to and or affect all of us.
For this reflective journal, I have decided to draw parallels between approaches to social work that I have learned in my placement, and what I have learned during my academic career at Carleton University. Placement thus far, has been an eye-opening and rich experience, which has taught me about the profession that I aspire to be a part of. I am a third year student, and much of my time spent at Carleton, has been studying theories, and becoming exposed to different schools of thought. Theories are incredibly beneficial, to teach and inform the practice of the next generation of social workers. However, placement has provided me with the opportunity to apply theoretical ideals, to real life social work practice.
In order to conduct the research, twenty-nine children and their families were selected from 426 different areas within England, Wales and Scotland. Some parents refused to take part in the research, while 76% agreed to be interviewed (Meltzer et al. 2009). The research that was organized determined that the violence affects different age groups and sexes in different ways.
Most of the participants are familiar with child abuse at some point. People have a different point of view on what factors are linked to increase child abuse. Some people
