Its is a beautiful day in the bright blue ocean when a loud explosion is heard just a distance away, oil rises from the ocean. The birds and marine life are covered in a black substance and soon die afterwards. And what was once a beautiful ocean is now a sea of corpses. This is what happened when the Deepwater Horizon Oil spill occurred on April 20, 2010. it is the worst oil spill in history, spilling millions of gallons of oil into the gulf, affecting the environment, the wildlife and the economy in many ways.
The economic and human impact of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill was felt throughout the Southern U.S., The seafood industry in particular was affected by this oil spill due to the closings. The industry lost millions to this oil spill due to how cautious people are being about the seafood being brought from the gulf. One example of a business that has been impacted is a business ran by a man named Randy Borne who states “Every year is worse and worse. I’m hardly catching anything. I think crabs got affected the most.” (Gallucci). Because of this oil spill Randy now lugs in only 12 dozen crates of crab per day instead of his usual 70 dozen. He is not the only one that has been affected by the oil spill, thousands of people and businesses are just making ends meet and due to all of this BP would eventually pay billions in claims for them being …show more content…

In the immediate aftermath of the Oil Spill, concerns about public health focused of people coming into direct contact with the oil and dispersants (The Ocean Portal Team). People that work to clean up the mess that BP made report high levels of exposure to oil. There are plenty of physical effects and mental effects aswell. Some of the physical side effects include lung damage and lumbar damage, The mental side effects include PTSD and Anxiety both of which are long lasting until treatment is
