In the spirit of debate I speak to the following representatives/senators of the concept bill C addresses. Should parents be forced to suffer financially and mentally because they gave birth to a baby? They should not and I am in affirmation of this bill because it protects families from financial stress and has health benefits to the mothers and their children.
Paid maternity leave protects families from financial stress and bombardment. Per the Washington Post in the article “Defending Paid Parental leave” on September 2, 2009, “One of the side effects of the bad economy is that good ideas that sound expensive begin getting ignored. Take paid parental leave. Making sure that parents can afford to take time off to have a baby is a good idea on a number of fronts. It protects families from the choice of financial calamity or time with a newborn.” …show more content…

Not only does us make us in the minority of something but it is also illogical. Paid maternity leave offers a chance for mothers of newborns to take care of their children yet still stay financially stable. This is especially important when a husband is not available as financial support. 80.6% of mothers are currently single. If women are having children and their partner absconds then that leaves many women vulnerable to the ghastly teeth of the economy. The cost of baby for one year is about $36,750 if the mother must find someone to care for the baby. This is due to her job she must keep up to provide income. On the other hand, if the mother can stay home with the baby then it only costs about $4,194. This immensely lessens the amount. Therefore, this could all be avoided if paid maternity leave was provided. Mothers wouldn’t have to worry about where the money comes
