1. Define the strategic principle of: Mission Statements.
As the authors Dess, McNamara, and Eisner pointed out in the text book, the mission statements is " a set of organizational goals that includes the purpose of the organization, its scope of operations, and the basis of its competitive advantage". (p.26) In other words, a mission statement communicates why the firm exists and how they are going to respond to their stakeholders. In order for a mission statement be successful it has to have the following: a clear and specific knowledge of the purpose of the business, it has to inspires and motivates the business 's stakeholders, reflect what differentiates them from the competitors, and it has to be easy to understand and easy to

In my opinion, a personal mission statement has the same foundation in its creation as the mission of an organization. In both, we try to communicate what our purpose is, why we are special, and how it is intended to please our client (stakeholders). In a personal statement, you might focus on actions and decisions toward things that are most important to the individual.
My personal mission statement would be:
"Being an example of dedication, sacrifice, overcoming, humanity, and achievement for my family."
4. What role does a leader play in creating an Environmentally Aware Organization? Are there any things you think a leader should not do, if so, what is each of these 'things '?
Is imperative that a leader be aware of the organization 's environment. As Ram Charan pointed out, managers become environmentally aware when they understand his concept of perceptual acuity, which is "the ability to sense what is coming before the fog clears." (p.38) The leaders or managers of an organization have to be involved in the inputs of forecasting. The leader 's role includes: (p.39)
• Environmental scanning: it implies monitoring the external environment of a company to predict environmental changes and detect changes already in progress.
• Environmental monitoring - monitors the evolution of environmental trends, sequences of events and flows of activities.
• Competitive intelligence – helps the
The Mission Statement is a vital component in the strategic planning of a business organization. Creating a mission is one of the first actions an organization should take. This can be a building block for an overall strategy and development of more specific functional strategies (Abrahams, 1995). By defining a mission an organization is making a statement of organizational purpose.
Evaluating information on events occurring outside the organization and identifying trends is environmental scanning. Trends are determined through the forces of social, economic, technological, competitive and regulatory sources. In some of my research on this subject, I found reference to the term PESTLE analysis which involves six different environments for assessment: political, economic, social, technological, legal and environment.
Environmental scanning can be viewed as a way of acquiring information about outside events that can aid organizations in first identifying potential trends, then interpreting them
Most organization have develop an element called a mission statement. A mission statement describes and helps focus the attention of organizational members and external constituents on the organization's core purpose. This is use in the criminal justice and security agency use mission statement for the success of the organization and better serve the community or businesses that they have agree to serve and protect.
The mission statement is often publically stated and used by almost every organization today. It helps provide basic guidelines, essentially the core values of a company, and what they aim for. A mission statement gives customers
It is necessary for all businesses to critically analyse their business environments. Environmental scanning is the process of measuring, predicting and evaluating changes in the business environment. This is important because:
To stay tuned to the recent situation in order not to miss perspective opportunities, an organization should go on with continuous scanning of its environment. According to Jobber, environmental scanning is “the process of monitoring and analyzing the marketing environment of a company” (Jobber, 2010, p.93). Aguilar states (Aguilar, 1967, cited in Costa, 1995, pp.4-5) that environmental scanning serves the purpose of gathering information about the facts and events happening around the company in order to let the management lead the organization in the right direction. Most of the authors agree on the same main function of environmental scanning.
The mission statement is a written document that an organization declares its core purpose. The mission statements defines the essence of the organizations needs and their core purpose of their existence. It describes the role that they play in the community and portrays the club’s image, charisma, and individuality. If the mission statement is written correctly it can provide an explanation to internal and external individuals on what the organization stands for. Some of the components that are key to the mission statement are members, product and service, market, technology and philosophy are just a few that should be in the mission statement. Without and effective mission statement to inspire your employees and members on why you exist it won’t mean anything to them. Here is an example of a mission statement from Kohl’s
Organizing the direction of a business or corporation is essential because it can increase profitability and provide broad guidelines for how to accomplish the organization goals. This is where a mission statement becomes useful. A mission statement should be short, concise, and to the point. Employees should be able to remember it and make it part of their everyday work culture.
The mission statement communicates to stakeholders the main activities that the company focuses on in order for it to achieve its vision. The mission statement communicates to employees’ information on how to conduct their day to day activities. The mission statements also describe the organizations, policies, culture as well as ethics (Alesia 2013).
On the other hand, mission statement is the reason why a company exists and it’s a statement that declares the core purpose of a company. Mission statement usually will remain the same over time (Bratianu, 2007). The mission is different from a vision as it aims to create competitive advantage and also achieve the social goal of a company (Bratianu, 2007).
To assure the success of a business over a long period of time the business must be able to conduct regular analysis of their success. They must be able to determine where they are today and have a goal of where they would like to see themselves 5-10 years down the road. In order to conduct a true analysis of the company, one must complete an environmental scan of their organization. Thus scanning for events, trends, issues and expectations that they may be faced with in the future. Furthermore, examining all internal and external environment challenges. Internal environmental challenges may be with employees, shareholders or board of directors or the overall culture of the organization. External environmental
The mission of a company is considered to be its purpose. Basically, it should include what you will provide, who you will serve and also highlight your key attributes that should distinguish your organization from your competitors. There are no specific rules to develop a mission statement, what really matters is that should be a reflection and a helpful synopsis of the organization as well as it should speak to your stakeholders. Some characteristics that makes a mission statement successful is when it is succinct and can be printed in the back of a business card, when it is memorable and unique. Lastly it ought to be realistic and current, for instance, the mission should be a description of the present and not the future as well as it can not change constantly, in this case, when the firm changes its priorities, it is necessary to think if the new directions will affect its mission.
Organisations scan environmental information and use it for planning, decision making and control. Organisations transmit information to several internal and external agencies like govt., investors, trade unions and professional bodies. For any organization, the environment consists of the set of external conditions and forces that have the potential to influence the organization. In the case of Subway, for example, the environment contains its customers, its rivals such as McDonald’s and Kentucky Fried Chicken, social trends such as the shift in society toward healthier eating, political entities such as the US Congress, and many additional conditions and forces. It is useful to break the concept of the environment down into two components. The general environment (or macroenvironment) includes overall trends and events in society such as social
