Courage: what is it? Many of us ask ourselves what is courage, do I have courage? And the answer is yes, everyone has courage. The definition of courage is, the ability to do something that frightens you. Everyone is scared of something in life, maybe it’s the dark, or riding a bike. It takes courage conquer fears, like going on a roller coaster, or trying new food; maybe even sitting with the new kid at lunch. Everything takes courage, no matter how big or small.
I’ve done courageous things in my life, nothing huge, but little things. For example, riding my bike for the first time without training wheels, and learning to play a new sport. Those things took courage, but one of the things that took the most courage in my life is when I got really sick. When I was eight years old I got pneumonia and was in the hospital for 10 days. This was one of the scariest moments of my life.

As the week went on and I got worse and worse, so after two days we went to the doctor. We got to the doctor office and I could barely walk, because my left side hurt so bad. My dad carried me in and the doctor examined me. She saw that a was very dehydrated and sick, so she called the hospital and we went there to get fluid. At the hospital, doctors did test on me to see why my side was hurting so bad, after a few hours they came back and told my parents they had to admit
Courage is an important quality to have, because everyone can’t always be afraid of everything and let their fears hold them back. Sometimes people have to do things that they don’t want to do, or they have to face their fears.

This kind of courage is the courage which both Harold Crick in Stranger Than Fiction and Jean Louise “Scout” Finch in To Kill A Mockingbird. In Stranger Than Fiction, an IRS agent, Harold Crick, with a monotonous life learns that you must not only survive, but you must truly live. This lesson is taught through a series of events that lead to his breaking out of his shell and truly living his life. The events are preliminarily put into action through Harold hearing the voice of the author of a book about his life. In To Kill A Mockingbird, a tomboyish six-year-old, Jean Louise “Scout” Finch, discovers the true meaning of camaraderie and bravery. Her friendships are strong but her definition of courage is flawed. In the end, she realizes a great truth, that to really know someone, you have to imagine yourself in their shoes. Courage is important to these two characters, as they both discover what it really means to be brave and what the true definition of courage is. Courage is not always outspoken, sometimes courage is knowing that you will fail, but trying and failing anyway and then accepting your failure.
My act of courage is when I found out that i had Reactive Attachment Disorder. You can get this from being abused when you were a little kid or a baby. Well in my case I was abused by my mom for two years. She abused me since the day I came home from the hospital till the I was almost three years old and got put into foster care so I got away from the person who was abusing me for a couple of month's. I just found out on January tenth, 2017 at a meeting that I had to go to that I had Reactive Attachment Disorder.
