Ibrahim Abiodun LOVE YOURSELF “Happiness means loving yourself and being less concerned with the approval of others” –Owen Campbell Jr. This quote is just a short and quick reminder about how you can’t obtain happiness from anybody but yourself, and that true happiness comes from within not from outside. One day I was walking towards my lunch table and before I got there I noticed everyone was on their phones, on snap chat, on Instagram. I walked past a specific table of girls who were looking and talking bad about a Instagram post one of their friends had posted. The girl they were talking about went to the same school as us. Lots of student made fun of her, because her and her family had more meat on them than most people. A couple years ago comments and remarks like that would’ve been frowned upon but here in 2016 comments like those a don’t even get a second look at. They are just comments that nobody really acknowledges. Nowadays people just say whatever bad thought comes to their mind, and it has has almost become normal to us. …show more content…
As I continued to my lunch table I told my group of friends what I had discovered on my way there. What really surprised me the most is that everybody already knew about it and not even the principal was alarmed about it. Nobody in school was going to do anything because we were already so used to this kind of stuff. Everybody was talking about the girl as if she wasn’t there but in reality she really was there listening to everything everyone was
In the article “What Happiness Is’’, by Eduardo Porter, states his point of view about the definition of happiness. Gandhi states “Happiness is when you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony” (qtd. in porter 459). In my opinion happiness can be described in many of ways from different individual’s point of view. My perspective of happiness is when you accomplish something in life, because makes you so proud of what you have done. Happy is something that makes you happy whether it’s a person, a thing or stuff and happiness is desired to be happy. Happiness is important role to maintain happy because without happiness the world would be different.
Happiness is one of human’s most passionate feelings. Defined by Wolfram Alpha, happiness is a mental state abound with pleasant emotions and intense joy. Although abstract, one can perceive happiness through any of the five senses, as objects, feelings, and even thoughts can stir happiness. For example, one may associate happiness with the delicious smell of warm, chocolate chip cookies in the oven or hearing the crack of the bat as one hits the game-winning home run. In addition to smell and hearing, happiness is depicted through senses such as taste, touch, and sight.
Poe creates a sensation of claustrophobia in this story. The narrator is mysteriously trapped by the lure of Roderick’s attraction, and he cannot escape until the house of Usher collapses completely the story is about an unnamed narrator who has a childhood friend named Roderick Usher who owns a very creepy mansion. Roderick lives with his sister Madeline in his massive mansion. In the beginning, the narrator informs us that Usher is mysterious and reserved. Roderick summons our narrator to his mansion by sending him a letter that told him to immediately report to his house because he was sick and is suffering from some sort of mental disease. Madeline is suffering from a disease as well and Usher feels that he and his sister are soon to expire.
Crowd psychology is the fundamental idea behind the term propaganda. One of the most successful public relations influencers Edward Bernays wrote in his book “Propaganda”. ”If we understand the mechanisms and the motives of the group mind, it is now possible to control and regiment the masses according to our will without them knowing it.” Many argue that propaganda is unethical due to the fact that it is a manipulation and control of the group mind. In this paper, I will be studying what makes propaganda ethical and compare the effective propaganda techniques that have been used in some of the most recent campaigns. Specifically, focusing on public relations campaigns in such as Always, Under Armour, and Dove" campaigns that have recently
There are many theories surrounding happiness, and the pursuit of happiness. Some believe that an external force must be present to bring about happiness, while others argue that happiness is individualized, and is completely up to a person's internal mindset of whether he or she is able to achieve and maintain happiness. Aristotle, a significant ancient Greek philosopher, believes that happiness requires an action. He affirms that there are many factors that play into someone's happiness; including materialistic things, which help support this state of being. His claim is that happiness is a holistic approach to life and must be achieved by living virtuously with moral character. Aristotle also indicates that happiness is not a moment in time, but rather a journey of exploration by way of living harmoniously, through a pursuit of achieving life’s goals and desires. He adds that a life of happiness is driven by virtue and emotions, which all play a role in achieving optimum happiness.
“Happiness is not something you postpone for the future; it is something you design for the present.” wise words spoken by Jim Rohn. Happiness is the state of being happy. It is a simple as that. Being happy is feeling or showing pleasure or contentment. For some of people happiness doesn't come easily, but I believe that it could. I believe that people can be and make their own happiness.
Happiness is the main emotion people yearn to feel. Though without other emotions, such as sadness, anger, and fear, could true happiness be found? People may not even know what happiness is without these other emotions. If a friend that makes a person happy dies it is least likely that any person would remain happy throughout their passing.
People constantly have the desire to want more and often believe that by fulfilling those desires, it will increase their happiness. One problem is, people do not just live with simplicity in their lives, which is a direct reflection of their environment and societal factors that influence these continuous desires. Happiness is a very pertinent goal for people to reach. Today’s society has the misconception of happiness as being blinded by monetary and materialistic gains such as wealth, power, social media, and success. The “Mental Health Foundation's survey illustrating that 76 per cent of respondents think society is becoming more materialistic and selfish” (Buggey). Many people contemplate on whether or not it is even possible for individuals to attain happiness, which has driven researchers to neglect to study happiness because some believe that we would be better off by simply accepting our current happiness. However, we believe another reason for this neglect is the pessimistic view “over whether it is even possible to achieve sustainable increases in happiness” (Sheldon, K. & Lyubomirsky, S. (2006). With several different aspects of if happiness is even achievable, there are still individuals who believe there are.
Happiness occurs often in my life. I take pleasure in many simple, small things, I’m happy when I take a hot shower, and when I leave footprints on newly fallen snow. These types of small actions fill me with the unmistakable warmth of happiness, and I often question why. What was so deeply fulfilling about such simplicity?
What is happiness? What does it mean to be happy? Is happiness real? These questions are the most frequently asked questions that most people ask themselves. By definition, being happy is when something is feeling or showing pleasure or contentment. But, what is the true meaning of being happy? Many people view happiness in many different aspects. Pharrell Williams’s song “Happy” did just that. It tells people that they don’t have to seek hard to be happy. It is within one’s self.
What is happiness? How can we feel happy? Most people always ask these kinds of questions, but nobody knows what the right answers are. Many people thought that they would become happy when they work hard to earn lots of money to buy whatever they want. For example, people attend school to have high grades for getting higher wages job in the future, travel the world for beautiful views, and eat delicious food, because they thought that would make them happy. According to “When All You’re Ever Wanted Wasn’t Enough,” Harold Kushner wrote that there is nothing wrong with someone, who like to do things in order to be happy, but the problem is that they should not do those things with their expected goals. The more you chase the happiness, the more it leaves you. Which means that when you are doing things in order to be happy, you will realize that happiness has not ever belonged to you, and you have not ever felt happiness with that. Therefore, I agree with Harold Kushner’s idea that people should do whatever they are willing to do without having any expected purposes, just do what they love, then they will be happy, realize that happiness is always around you and it is easy to catch.
I don’t believe it is necessary to aspire to greatness; I choose instead to aspire to goodness. If I work to be the best person I can be, both to myself and to those around me, then by being good, I may have become great. This virtue of character and action can mean different things to different people, for no one has the same goals and ideals. There is no universal purpose.
Simple things like a sight of an ice cream, the feel of your soft pillows, and the taste of marshmallows can make a person happy but people often desire more things that they can’t easily acquire. They desire love, all the money in the world or maybe winning a nobel prize. Some people just maybe want to have a good job, and a good family. Individuals will go through all sorts of things just to get what they want. Without knowing, some people sacrifices something in order to achieve the happiness they sought for. The short film, Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along-Blog suggests that an individual can inadvertently sacrifice something in order to achieve their own happiness.
Everyone’s eyes were on the whiteboard as my teacher began writing what we all dreaded. The fourth hour bell had just rung in my 10th grade honors English class, and I was just as nervous as my classmates as I read out the words on the board. It was time for our “In-class essay test”, which our teacher announced would be given out randomly this week. The notion of writing essays for the class never made me worried, but the fact that this one would be written in-class and completely graded on grammar usage concerned me, along with my classmates. My teacher fixed his glasses and began setting the timer, after handing out the news story that we were tasked to write about. I took a deep breath and began writing, hoping for the best. A week after that hour of painstaking writing, I was surprised to find that I got a perfect score. That event first opened my eyes to the types of classes I shine in. I predominantly succeed in English and social studies class. I attribute my success to the nature of the classes, my study habits in those classes, my relationship with teachers and students in the class, and, above all, my family pushing me along the way.
Happiness is a feeling and a choice rather than a state of being. Happiness comes within us, we chose to be satisfied or not. People that are optimistic compared to others that are not, are happier and care free. When we are happy, it is considered a moment of perfection, of joyfulness. Happiness does not all come at once, nor does it stay, happiness comes one moment at a time. People usually say, “I’ll be happy when….” Individuals are picking and choosing when to be happy. We are so fortunate to have the right, liberty and the freedom to be happy. For example, the children in Africa have little to nothing and they are sill satisfied, they choose to be happy. They may not have much food or water, poor shelter, and no money but they are still joyful. We have so much more than they do and we still feel the need to have even more, if we do not have whatever we are seeking, we tend to choose to be unhappy.
