The word Honor is defined in the dictionary to mean high respect; esteem. My definition of honor is a role model that I have high respect for because of the way he or she conducts their life. Leonardo Pisano, better known as Fibonacci, as he got older, was born in 1170 in Pisa which is a city in Italy. He was the son of Guilielmo and Alessandra Pisano. His mother, Alessandra, past away when he was only nine. With Fibonacci’s mother dead and being an only child, he followed wherever his father went. They spent time traveling between North Africa and Italy. Fibonacci had no formal education. He received his education through his travels.
One of his greatest accomplishments was the discovery of the Fibonacci Sequence. The Sequence is

Like the Practica Geometriae. This book is about techniques in survey, the measurement and partition of areas and volumes, and other topics in practical geometry. Another book by Fibonacci is Flos which solved problems posed by Johannes of Palermo. Liber Quadratorum, written in 1225 AD, is a number theory book, which examines methods to find the Pythagorean Triples. Two of his books that were lost, they were Di minor guisa, and the Commentary on Book X of Euclid's Elements.
Some of Fibonacci’s awards were the statue that the republic of Pisa made for Fibonacci in the 19th Century, since he helped spread the arabic numeral system. The statue is in the city of Camposanto. He also got a salary for the arabic numeral system and the Fibonacci Sequence. The impact of Fibonacci’s work towards the world is that the Arabic numeral system has been used instead of the Roman Numerals. In addition, the impact the Fibonacci Sequence has had on the world to help us understand animal species. I do not think Fibonacci is a definition of honor to me, due to the fact that he is not a role model to me. I have respect for him and his wonderful contributions to math and science, however, he would not fit my criteria of
Born to Guglielmo Bonacci of Pisa, a wealthy Italian merchant in 1170, Fibonacci travelled with him as a young boy. It was in Buga (now known as Bejaia, Algeria) that Fibonacci learned about the Hindu-Arabic numeral system.
What honor personally means to mean is respect. It can be among people or for something. Honor is something nice for a person to have, meaning he or
“Moral principles do not depend on a majority vote. Wrong is wrong, even if nobody is wrong. Right is right, even if nobody is right” (Sheen, Fulton). It can be difficult to sometimes do what we need to do over what we want to do. If we do what we hunger instead of doing our responsibilities it can make you seem immature or irresponsible. According to the Merriam Webster, honor means- a showing of usually merited respect: recognition. To be even known as a hero, the person has to earn that title by usually doing what they devise to do over what they want to. The code of honor is when you have a set or either moral or religion principles that you don’t try to break. The heroes of Ancient Mesopotamia, India, and Israel, each honor their moral principles even when they are faced with adversity.
Leonardo Bonacci was an Italian mathematician during the middle ages. He is better known as Fibonacci or Leonardo de Pisa. There is very little known about Fibonacci’s life except for what he wrote down in his books. The details of his education, early life and family are vague. Since his books are written mainly about his work in mathematics he does not elaborate on his personal life.
In our day and age the word honor can mean many different things to different people. The general definition of honor is, a person who is respected, has integrity, is fair and just, hard working, kind, of good moral character, and loyal to the end of time. A person who holds this position of high esteem knows what is being asked of them, and take their service to heart. I feel that honor must be earned and that while not a fragile thing, it can be lost just as easily. We, as Americans, show honor to those who have served, or are currently serving our country. We award them for giving of their time and for sacrificing their comforts to protect all of us. In the past we, as Americans, would teach our children to show respect (honor) to their
Honor is a trait that is hard to come by; it is a trait that is earned not given out as a prize. During the fourteenth century, the knightly virtues were built upon a singular trait; honor. This factor makes up a knight’s worthiness, honor comes through respect. In the poem Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, the protagonist has to come to terms with his character and virtues as a knight, and weather or not he deserves what his title.
The definition of honor is high respect, privilege, regard with great respect, and fulfill. My definition of honor is someone with great power, someone you can look up to. Sir Francis Bacon invented scientific method. Sir Francis Bacon whase also now as lord Verulam and the Viscount St. Albans. Sir Francis Bacon whase non as many things he whase a English lawyer, philosopher and a champion of modern science. Sir Francis Bacon lived from 1561-1626 he lived for 65 years. From 1572-1598 he was a powerful man in England. He was twelve when he got into Trinity College. 1579 his dad passed away wall he was in France. 1582 he was get his degree in law. Francis Bacon was pick to be Parliament in 1584. From 1604-1618 he wielded a degree of power.
One of my favorite sources happens to be a video produced by Phil Riehl; entitled Fibonacci Numbers in Lateralus. [6] As the video points out what antiquity has amply annotated, math has been and continues to be utilized by all types of composers to fill sheets of astonishing emotional melodies for the masses to adore. Fibonacci Numbers in Lateralus blends history and fundamental mathematical approaches in music composition in order to provide a simple design methodology pertaining to Fibonacci numbers. Riehl’s analyzation of Tool’s song Lateralus (composed by Danny Carey) walks viewers through the Fibonacci numbers application, beginning with the drum introduction and through the sequencing of the lyrics. This study leaves no room for debate, as the evidence it produces is simply overwhelming.
Fibonacci was an Italian number theorist. It is believed that Leonardo Pisano Fibonacci was born in the 13th century, around 1170 and that he died in 1250. Fibonacci was born in Italy very little is known about him or his family, He did however obtain is education in Bougie, Algeria, where his father was a warehouse official. Fibonacci was known as the greatest European mathematician of the middle ages. Fibonacci traveled extensively throughout Europe as well as Egypt and Syria. During his travels, he observed and analyzed the arithmetical systems employed in commerce and learned the Hindu-Arabic numerals. Fibonacci was one of the first people to introduce Europe to the Hindu-Arabic number system, which is the system we still use today. This was the system that replaced the Roman Numeral system. Leonardo also wrote a book that was completed in 1202, on how to do arithmetic in the decimal system, it was called Liber abbaci (Book of Calculating) the book persuaded many European mathematicians of his day to use this "new" system.
Defined by the dictionary, honor is to have high respect and esteem. My definition of honor is to discover the unknown and not be afraid to share these discoveries. Johannes Kepler was a scientist who discovered multiple new things and shared them with others, I consider him an honorable scientist. Johannes Kepler was the first to correctly explain planetary motions, technically becoming the founder of celestial mechanics and the first “natural laws” (Kepler: Johannes Kepler). Kepler did not call these discoveries “laws”, as later it would be that Isaac Newton would derive them(Johannes Kepler (German astronomer).
The concept of honor and the connection of living our life with honor has been pondered by philosophers, intellectuals, and the common people. Even as far back as medieval times, the idea of honor is a key factor in what shapes the rules of society. Knights would try their best to apply the Code of Chivalry to their everyday lives. The Code of Chivalry is a compilation of rules that guide the knight to be what was considered honorable in their time. Most knights would try to live to the code, but it could be seen that knights would violate the code which create a horrible consequence for him and the people around him. An example could be seen with Roland in The Song of Roland, and Perceval in “The Story of the Grail”. Two knights trying their
In many cultures, honor and manliness go together. Honor lost was manhood lost. Because honor was such a central aspect of a man’s masculine identity, men would go to great lengths to win honor and not lose respect. In today’s society, honor means being true to a set of personal ideals, or being a person of integrity. Men are often told to “man up”, which means to show strength and courage. There are a few groups in today’s society that still consider honor to be a worthwhile goal. Our military, police departments and fire departments are all considered an honorable profession. Even our criminal gangs have a code of honor that they must live by.
Mathematics took center stage at the symposium with Al-Khwarizmi speaking about history of his field during the Arab empire and discussing major contributors to the field. Arabic Mathematics derived from the simple system of finger reckoning, using one 's fingers in order to do basic forms of arithmetic. After some time “Finger reckoning started to disappear with the introduction of Hindu arithmetic, the base for the current scheme of numeration and calculation” (Esposito 184). Hindu numerals were used for these basic forms of arithmetic more efficiently than Finger reckoning. This numeric system was easier for calculations, rather than using Roman numerals, which is why it is considered a great achievement-moved the possibilities of mathematics ahead. It was a base ten counting system that originated in India and Al-Khwarizmi was the first person outside of India to rework this system, giving us the Arabic numerals, which the numbers we use today are derived from. The abacus was the
Leonardo Fibonacci was an Italian mathematician who lived from 1170 to 1240. While Fibonacci was growing up, he was sent to study mathematics with an Arab master. Once he finished studying, he began to travel to other countries to study their mathematics and calculations (Encyclopedia Britannica). In 1202, Fibonacci published his book that was entitled Liber Abaci or Book of the Counting. In this book, he used Hindu-Arabic numbers. This is the number system that we are using today. Prior to his writing, many people did not know or use this system of numbers. In the beginning, Fibonacci talked about how this system worked, basically how to use, write, and compute with these numbers. He taught this by focusing on real life examples
So, then what exactly does it mean to “honor your father and mother”? Honoring your father and mother is being respectful in both your word and action, having an inward attitude of respect for their position. For example, the Greek word for honor means “to revere, prize, and value.” Honor is giving respect not only for merit but also for one’s position. An example of this would be how some Americans might disagree with the President’s decisions, however, they should still respect his position as leader of their country. Something similar to this would be how children of all ages should honor their parents, regardless of whether or not their parents “deserve” honor.
