Thomas Jefferson was not the typical hero. He was shy, reticent, and hypocritical on several occasions. Nevertheless, he accomplished countless remarkable achievements, including drafting the Declaration of Independence, the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom, and becoming president of the United States, to preserve his ideals of liberty and democracy. He was also generous to others, which can be seen in his hospitality to the strangers that came to his house frequently. His efforts laid the foundation of democracy in America, and due to this, he could be regarded as one of the greatest heroes in U.S. history. Although Thomas Jefferson is considered a hero by many, the precise definition of a hero varies from source to source. A hero is a person who goes to great lengths in order to protect certain moral values, and uses their power for the good of others. However, this is not how dictionaries typically define a hero. According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, a hero is “a person admired for achievements and noble qualities” (“Hero”). Although the former definition is similar to this definition, there are a few key differences. One of distinctions between the definitions is that the dictionary definition includes that the person has accomplished achievements, while the former definition does not include this.
