How Well I Delegate The result of my delegations questionnaire was a thirty-seven. This puts me in the second category for delegation skills. The breakdown was I understand the principles of delegation. However, I do one of two things. I will cut corners on some tasks or if the task is vital or important to me. I will take on the whole project, creating a lot of extra stress. Whereas, I could potentially have a team or another individual help me with the big project. According, to the results I have too much pride or ego to share the task at hand. As a result, my subordinates are less frustrated with me because I am not on their back constantly. Additionally, my peers feel empowered and morale is better if they feel comfortable with me and have ownership in their own work. The exception to this rule is if I am delegating a task to someone who is inexperienced or has had a history of not always producing quality work. Therefore, I will establish checkpoints or periodically check in on them more often. This is a part of being a good leader and management skills. One must know their team and their tendencies this comes with practice, time, and experience. Moving onto “To whom to delegate” section. This area I also struggle with. I have a tendency of taking on larger tasks by myself or only grab one person to assist me when maybe I should have more help. I personally believe it’s a pride aspect. Mostly, because I do not want to produce something I could potentially blame the issue on someone else. I also have a mindset that I cannot trust someone else because they are not competent enough. Mostly, I have a hard time relying on people, especially with people who have a reputation. However, in order to improve in this area, I can just delegate easier smaller or tedious tasks that have a low chance of failing to my peers.
