I wanted to highlight the skills I knew the job I was applying for was looking for, but made sure I wasn’t over explaining and leaving that for the cover letter. This would help me not only get the interview, but possibly the job as well. As far as the cover letter, I talked more about myself and more about the experience I had. I had the chance to give examples of my experience and emphasize how my experience would benefit the company. I believe that having the opportunity to write both the cover letter and resume and get feedback about it will really help me when applying for a job. When learning about interviews, I got the opportunity to learn from classmates questions they were asked and the kind of environment they were asked in. This helped to give me an idea of what to expect in the future. I also felt relieved that I wasn’t the only one that gets nervous in these situations but that it’s important to push those nerves aside and act confident. In interviews, they look for confidence and people who want to work there. It’s important to show interest in the job you are applying
When I finish the dental cleanliness program at Cape Fear, I need to utilize the contacts I'm making in the dental field to discover a position with a neighborhood private practice. My ambition to study for a degree in Dental Hygiene and Dental Therapy has developed out of several years’ experience of working as a dental nurse in support of professional dental technicians and a growing interest in the science involved in dentistry. I am very much aware of the importance of the hygienist’s role in maintaining the patient’s dental health, and indeed ultimately helping to secure general health through careful attention to oral conditions. My work as a nurse has made me realise the importance of a full understanding of the physiology of the mouth and gums and of the whole body. I have been struck by how common periodontal diseases are in patients who come for dental treatment and have an immense faith in the value of preventive

A dental assistant must be able to work well with others because they are the second pair of hands for the dentist. A dental assistant must be able to understand the dentist and communicate with the dentist to provide proper tools and assistance. Assistants must be very reliable and have excellent manual dexterity so that they can provide the best service to the dentist and to the patient that they are working with. Dental assistants will also have to be knowledgeable on how to properly sterilize and disinfect equipment and instruments and how to set up and lay out instruments and materials for each patient. They must obtain and update patients records as needed and ensure that their patients are comfortable at all times.

Prior to starting the career project there were several occupations that caught my interest, being a firefighter, a marine biologist, and a dentist. However looking at the economy I realize that I need to obtain a sustainable job that will be on the rise, and of the three I narrowed it down to one field, dentistry. Recently, my family and I traveled to Arizona to experience what it was like for my brother at his dental school, Midwestern University. My brother offered a tour of the campus and walked us around the school grounds. During his tour, he showed us pictures of the worse cases he had seen while working at the dental clinic there and he informed us about some of the hazards of dental surgery. Afterwards, he brought us into the classroom where the first and second year dental students practice oral surgery procedures on fake teeth. Suddenly he set up the dummy for oral surgery and handed me the drill and told me to try preparing a tooth for a cavity and then a crown.
We plan to work with local care homes for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, providing individualized oral hygiene education. Upon completion of UNC’s Dental Hygiene Program, my goal is to get involved in the dental public health field, whether that is direct employment or volunteer work. I want to be a part of a body that gives oral health care to those who could not otherwise afford it. God has given me a heart for serving others, especially those in need. I am constantly looking for ways to serve others and I know that health care is something many people are in need of.
My interest in the profession of dentistry stemmed from my own experience with braces. I immediately became intrigued after tracking the progress of my own teeth and smile. After shadowing at local dental clinics, my interest in the profession soared. I learned that dentistry is a very personable profession and I have always loved interacting different people and learning about their lives. My decision to pursue dentistry was confirmed when I got my braces off and after I helped provide dental care to underprivileged villages in Honduras. After I got my braces off, my self-esteem increased tenfold. I want to give others that same feeling of self-confidence by directly improving their smiles. Additionally, volunteering in Honduras was a humbling

When it comes to landing jobs, effective resume writing is not the only skill you need to possess. Even if you managed to impress the employer and got selected for an interview, you must surpass that stage before you can officially be an employee of that company. Precisely for this reason, you need to know certain very effective interview techniques. Since most jobs require communication with customers and colleagues on a daily basis, employers often look for effective communication skills instead of just impressive educational qualifications.
As a first semester freshmen on the pre-dental track, I’ve noticed that there are only two organizations dedicated to dentistry here at Stony Brook University, compared to several for the pre-med track. Although I’ve only been here for a few months, I already came across dozens of students who hope to pursue dentistry. It’s safe to say that we have a sizeable pre-dental community at this institution. I want to take the initiative to start a Dental Brigade chapter at my school in order to provide passionate students the opportunity learn more about the field while lending a helping hand abroad. I believe dentistry is just as important as other fields in medicine.
