Abstract
As the number of the older adults is increasing so are those living with depression, and according to a study done by the US Department of Commerce, it is estimated that the older adult population will more than likely double by 2050 and of 80 million and many as 1 in 5 Americans would be considered as an older adult (US Department of Commerce, 1995). There are many losses that accompany the aging process. These include the loss of loved ones and their independence. They begin to feel as though they will depend on their families for the rest of their lives. Based on the research conducted, it is found that stigma affect older adults who are diagnosed with depression. Further finding’s reported to belief that depression is a normal part of aging among older adults. It is my uttermost believes that deep insight is needed in focusing on the stigmas and what can possibly cause them to plague older adults living conditions. In addition, individuals who works with this older adult population need to be educated about depression in order for them to have better understanding with the effects the stigma has on older adults with depression. This study will review the factors which trigger the older adult depression states, their physical and mental health conditions.
