The Renaissance is considered “the rebirth” or “the early modern period.” This time in history was a time of enlightenment, from the 14th century to the 17th century, they attempted to reapply and resemble the intellectual learning of the Greek and Roman civilizations. These new ideas received neglect from those who are afraid of change.

The booming oil and gas exploration of the 1970’s and 1980’s merits a name on the marquee as well. Shrimptons Creek Parklands, located in the City or Ryde in the northern Suburbs of Sydney, comprises of seven parks that lie adjacent to Shrimptons Creek. The creek is approximately 3.3 kilometres in length, flowing in a north-south direction through the suburbs of Denistone East, Ryde and Macquarie Park. It is part of the Macquarie Park Catchment which flows through Lane Cove National Park into Lane Cove River. The park’s surroundings consists of low to medium density residential in single dwellings, commercial centres and business institutions.

The South-to-North Water Diversion Project in China, established by Moa Zedong in 1952, is a water diversion project that would divert 44.8 billion cubic meters of water annually to the drier north of China ("South-to-North Water"). The project would link China’s four main rivers the Yangtze, Yellow River, Huaihe and Haihe. China plans on doing this by constructing three diversion routes moving through the south to north ("South-to-North Water"). It would stretch across the central, eastern and western parts of the country ("South-to-North Water"). This project is expected to cost around $62 billion dollars and take around 50 more years to complete ("South-to-North Water"). By trying to divert the rivers and create an equal distribution of water, the project raises many environmental concerns but has many positives. This paper will evaluate the different perspectives of the ecomodernist and resilience theory. This will be shown by analyzing each perspective, evaluating the different concerns and analyzing how each perspective would respond to the water diversion project.

Silver Creek Wetland Complex is a rare coastal wetland found along the eastern side of the Nottawasaga Bay Shoreline. In the Bay of Fundy the incoming tidal waters can overpower the flow of estuaries and rivers. This extraordinary phenomenon is known as a tidal bore and occurs twice daily. At high tide, a massive volume of seawater floods out of the Bay of Fundy into the rivers which feed it. The narrowing riverbanks force the soaring waters in a amazing surge and often a visible standing wave, in some cases 1 meter (3 feet) tall! In addition, 3 to 3.5 meters (10-12 feet) high rapids are generated in the wake of the roaring and swirling tidal water as it charges upstream at speeds near 15 kilometers per hour (10 miles per hour)!
