During world war two there was over 30,000 labor camps and many other camps jews were forcefully taken to by Hitler's Nazis armies. Many families ended up killed because of these camps. Jewish families started to hide from Hitler and the Naizs to try to stay away from these kinds of camps. Anne Frank’s family and the Van Daan’s went into hiding together for over two years. As time passes, many historical events that occurred outside the annex influenced the moods and relationships of the characters. Anne and Peter have come a long way from the beginning of the story. When Anne and Peter met in the secret annex I’m sure they never thought they would become as close as they were. They started out not liking each other and calling eachother names, “...How you talked so much in class they called you Mrs.Quack Quack…” (Hackett 116), but in the end they ended up liking each other. They were so fond of each other they ended up falling in love. This just shows what living in confinement can do to the relationships you have with people. …show more content…
Even though I’m sure they still love each other, they don't like each other as much. When they moved into the secret annex they didn’t have a strong dislike for each other, but now all they do is argue over unimportant things. “Mrs. Van Daan- You know what your father says. [She sits on the couch, sewing on the lining of her fur coat.]Peter- For heaven's sake I haven't even looked at him since lunch. Mrs Van Daan- I'm just telling you that's all. Anne-I'll feed him, Peter-I don't want you in there. Mrs. Van Daan- Peter!” That just goes to show that even feeding a cat is driving a family apart. Living in confinement has changed this family, and the others they are
Mr.Van Daan also quarrels with his son, Peter. Mr.Van Daan is ashamed of Peter in many ways. One way is Mr.Van Daan wants Peter to be as smart as Anne and Margot. They do their studies even though they are in hiding mode. Another way is Peter is a loner who is glued to his cat, Mouschi.
To begin with, Anne and Peter’s personalities have many similarities and differences. Anne is very outgoing, talkative, and optimistic. On page 728 Anne is talking to Mr.Dussel and in their conversation about allergies she says, “How dreadful. You must be terribly lonely”. If Anne was outgoing she probably wouldn't have had the courage to talk to Mr.Dussel like that, or at all. On the other hand, Peter's personality is quiet, respectful, and more reserved than Anne’s. When Anne gave Peter a present for Mousci, he said
In 1933, the nazi took power in Germany, which cause depression to a lot of people. At the beginning, Nazi defy the Jews, Gypsies, and the disabled. In March 1933, the first concentration camp was built and later on more concentration and death camps were made. A family named the Franks went into hiding with the Van Daans in Amsterdam. In “Anne Frank” the characters face adversity and conflict like man vs self, man vs nature, and man vs man that makes the “Diary of Anne Frank” a wonderful story.
Many of these secret homes were on busy streets that Nazis patrolled frequently. Anne Frank’s family was one of these Jews and took up residence in the hidden rooms above her father’s former office. As the end of the war neared, Nazi soldiers began to get worried and cared less about apprehending Jews than they did about killing the ones they already had taken as prisoner.
Peter is quiet and a shy boy. He has many duties chopping wood, fetching vegetables and potatoes from downstairs, and looking out for his cat. Anne thought he was boring and awkward. She later thought different and in up falling in love with him after she found him as a decent boy.
Towards the beginning of the play, Peter and Anne have a teasing and kind of playful relationship. They don’t totally like each other, but they’re also very different. Anne is closer to her father than anyone else, but she doesn’t really enjoy her mother. Anne and Margot are fairly close, but Anne seems pretty jealous of Margot and her looks. Mrs. and Mr. Van Daan seem kind of rude to her.
While staying in the annex Anne has made a new friendship with Peter (Hackett and Goodrich). Them becoming friends made living in the annex more bearable, for both Anne and Peter. Anne has also improved her relationship with her mother. Their relationship grew by her and her mother trying to understand each other more. Her and her father’s relationship grew more also. Anne would always go to her father for advice or just to make her feel better when her mother or other people living in the annex would make comments about her and how she should be
A demonstration of this change in the relationship between the characters is “ I think your just fine...what I want to say...if it wasn't for you around here, I don’t know. What I mean…” this impacted the drama because there is now less stress and tension going on in the Annex as finally Anne and Peter realize they at least have someone to talk to and spill their feelings to that can relate to what they are going through. The direct quote I have to show this change in relationship between the characters is “Then suddenly Peter grabs her awkwardly in his arms, he kisses her on the cheek.” (Hacket, Page 174) This supports my thesis because throughout the story Peter and Anne dont get along. As time goes on, they are able to find common ground as they both struggle to survive in this terrible situation. They start to get closer and closer and finally Peter kisses Anne on the cheek and they start up a relationship. This clearly showcases the changes in the inner relationships between the characters due to the historical events taking
After months of disagreement, Anne and her mother finally start to get along. Anne becomes more sympathetic to her mother, and realizes that some of her past entries about her mother were very cruel and hotheaded. Now, Anne does her best to care for her mother and also keep her mouth shut at times. She tries not to take things as serious, as well. She does her best to mature when it comes to her and her mother’s relationship.
love with Anne; "Peter loves me not as a lover but as a friend and
Peter's going on sixteen, a shy, awkward boy whose company won't amount to much.” (Frank 165). Anne thought of Peter as a let down. Because of his “lone wolf” personality that greatly differs from Anne bold personality, they don't seem like a good fit; but later they becomes closer. After bonding over books, Anne goes on to state, “Kitty, I sound like someone who's in love and can talk about nothing but her dearest darling. And Peter is a darling.” (Frank 165). Anne's use of the word darling shows how fond she's become of Peter. They read together and talk about serious topics, that not even the adults care to think about. Although Anne has grown and changed through the duration of the novel, she still remains the same in one way.
In a part of the book the Franks did not want to bring their cat because they knew they was going to be short of food. Peter brought his cat with him into hiding and Mr. Van Daan wanted to get rid of their cat when Mrs. Van Daan wanted to keep the cat. Another way I find the two families different is the Van Daans stole food. In a part of the book the Van Daans stole bread from their family and the Franks. After they stole the Franks told the Van Daans they would rather starve than steal from their children. At the end of the book the Van Daans broke into the safe, where all the food was and stole bread from all the families.
Peter was depressed about his situation and was very shy. That was until Anne brought some joy in his life. She talked to him constantly and enjoyed his company, as he enjoyed hers. The first connection between Peter and Anne is when they first moved in. Peter got a pocket knife and cut out the yellow Star of David and threw it in a fire. Anne cut hers out too but couldn't throw it in. She still held onto it even though the Nazi's forced them to wear it. This shows that she still cares about her religion, even though it was used against her. She said, "It's funny, I can't throw mine away. I don't know why." Peter was confused at first but just went along with it. Eventually, their hatred turned into passion and that turned into love. Sadly they'd die before they would get
Many people were hurt by Adolf Hitler's plans and one thing he achieved was killing six million Jewish people including children. Anne Frank and her family were one of them. They lived in a secret and tiny annex where Otto used to work. They started off just going to stay there for a few months till the Allied Forces could invade Holland but that didn’t work out. In the drama wrote by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett eight people crowded into annex for 2 long years not being able to go outside. Many historical events were impacted in the drama Anne Frank. Even though these problems took place outside of the secret annex it changed the mood and relationships of the character.
During the devastating time of World War II, a Jewish teenage girl wrote a diary about the gruesome events she witnessed, this diary was named, Diary of a Young Girl, Anne Frank. Anne Frank lived in Holland and went into hiding when her sister, Margot, got a letter to go to a reception camp. The Franks faced terrifying moments during hiding. They witnessed war outside their window and stayed in the same house without even going outside for about two years. To add on, the Franks had to keep in mind how every day they could be arrested or even die. Sadly Anne and her family are arrested and are sent to Auschwitz, a concentration camp where she would later die. While in hiding, the Franks and the Van Daans, who were also in hiding with them,
