The Stray
The night before the first day of school, my mama gave me my first house key.
“After school, you head straight to the house.” My mother said “Yes Ma’am,” I replied.
“Be sure to call when you get inside; and lock the door behind you.” She lectured. Once seated at the dinner table, we rhapsodized about the morning to come. “Chassy get up, it’s time for school,” my mother gingerly said as she tenderly shook me by my shoulders. Drowsily, I rubbed my eyes and made my way to the bathroom. Briskly I showered, brushed my hair and teeth, and then got dressed for school. I took hold of my books and my key then was out the door. After I walked outside, I noticed there was a cat perched in the fork in our pecan tree curiously, I walked over to the cat and held out my hand. Within a few seconds his soft fur rubbed against my palm. Just as the cat adapted to my gentle touch, my mom called out “Chasten, don’t pet that cat or he won’t go away!” My mom exclaimed. I raced to the car and was perplexed as to why my mom didn’t want the cat to stay around. As Mr. Sonny dropped me off at home every day, I would give the stray a piece of turkey meat before momma got home from work. One day as she pulled into the drive, she walked into the house and as she put her stuff down, she would question “Why is that dang cat still here?” I would often reply “I don’t know, Mama.” As the days went on, the cat, Yi-yo, and I grew closer. It seemed as if Yi-yo trusted me more as I trusted
I was drawn toward the room full of cats and people. I saw one cat, in particular, she was gray and fluffy. I walked over to her and started to pet her. I wondered if this was the cat we would take home. Then the cat bit me unexpectedly and hissed at me for no
I never wanted a cat, a dog maybe, but certainly not a cat. Their beady little eyes staring right into my soul, their claws looking like something out of a Tim Burton movie, dirtied from walking around in their own excretion and their matted fur clumping up in my hand with every stroke. “Rawr, hissss,” sounds that swirled my brain every time I came close to these feline “friends.” Cats and I didn’t mix. We were like olive oil and water. My sister, on the other hand, loves all animals. She is like Magenta from Sky High; animals scurry around her like she is their mother. She had begged my mom for a cat since the day she was born and my mom finally caved, to my dismay. One day, I came home from gymnastics practice and there was a cat sitting
One day there was the new family moving into that one goes near or walk by. It was their first day in Douglas, Georgia. Their names were Tamesha Burch and Doran Burch, the dad. Jakobe Burch and Jamesha Burch, the twins, Doran Jr. Burch, their brother. They got out their cars and walked slowly into the house they opened the fence door. They walked on the stairs, they were creaking. Doran walked in first and yelled,’’Is anyone in here?’’ Everybody walked slowly behind him. They walked into the house and the door slammed behind them and they heard a loud screech from the backyard and went outside to see what it was………….there was nothing there. They walked farther out there a black cat jumped out of the bushes and limped towards the family and spurred on their leg. Doran asked,’’Can we keep him mom
One day Olivia decided to go on a walk to her friends house. On her way to her friends house she saw something in the grass. She walked over to it and saw a baby puppy stuck under a fence. When she saw the puppy her heart sank, for she loved animals. Olivia didn’t know what to do. So she took her phone and called her friend. When her friend answered she asked her friend if she could look up the phone number for Dr. Romero’s office; she did this because Dr. Romero was the veteranerian. She called Dr. Romero and told him that she had found a hurt puppy on the side of the rode. Dr. Romero listened to her, then told her to stay there and he would come meet her.
The alleyway was creepy and did not seem right. It smelt like rotted meat, and was not inviting. The alleyway was quiet you could probably hear a pin drop. Then out of nowhere something fell, CRASH! Peeps jumped scared to death and turned around, to see an old grey cat. The cat you could tell was very old, by the way his face drooped, and how his untrimmed claws made a clink sound as he walked. His fur was falling out and there were clumps of dirt stuck to his tail. The cat smiled and slowly walked toward the little bird.
The barking and talking of various people, and the pet owners grooming their pet’s fur, revolted me. I started walking swiftly, trying to leave Ali’s Pet Shop behind as a poodle looked up at me with her vulnerable eyes. It was still a baby I guessed it was no older than a month. Through the glistening window upon the measly patch of sunlight, the fluffy white poodle with black patches and bright blue eyes, gently placed it’s paw of the glass of the window. My heart melted at that moment, I kissed my hand and aligned my hands to her paw. For few seconds, I stood there in the same position. Then the store keeper came and took the poodle, my eyes blinked twice as I turned and continued to saunter towards the Seven
The next day when I got home from school my mom was already home and she had a cake with
Her hair is the strings of a harp, bloodied from the constant playing of the beautiful hymns of the gods.
“Don’t stay out too late, and be careful!” my mom called over her shoulder from where she stood in front of the kitchen sink.
Renata and I looked at each other, we were terrified! We thought that someone was trying to break into the house. As petrified as we were, we wanted to know what was going on. The curtains by the window were shut and anyone or anything could be out there causing the scratching noise. We started arguing on who would open the curtains to check what was out there. Finally, I stepped up and took the courage to check it out. Besides, this was my house. Mortified, I was shaking as I pulled the curtain swiftly. Renata and I both screamed! We had not even seen what was out there, but we were just really very scared. My Mom woke up and rushed into my room very worried, causing my brother to wake up, too. Then, we checked on what was causing the commotion outside the window. There wasn’t really a person at my window, it was a cat! Renata and I started laughing so hard to find out that it was nothing to be scared of, my Mom and brother were wondering what was going on. So, we told them what had happened and then we all started laughing. Our master evil plan went down the drain: to sneak out again without waking anyone up. It ended with waking up the whole household. And….nope! We absolutely did not tell my Mom that we were trying to sneak out. Oh, my word! We did not want to be grounded. Another comical happening that I would always look back and perhaps tell my children about, but not when they
“I’m going to get you Kitty!” I said as I chased after my sister trying to tag her. “No, I’m too fast!” Said my sister giggling. We were playing tag on our trampoline. Once I finally caught my little sister, she started to jump frantically all around the trampoline in victory that it took me 5 minutes to catch her. All of sudden she jumped up, then landed on her arm. She started to scream so loud and the noise was so awful, It was like nails on a chalkboard. She started to screech “GET MOMMA, GET HER, GET HER, GET HER NOW!!!” I rushed Into the house and found my mother working in the kitchen, and I told her In a panic, “You need to get outside now!!”
I knew no way I was going to get a dog, but maybe this time would be the time when I could get my own cat. I was sad there were only a few; there. There was a pure black and a white one, then there was a small little gray and white cat, he was reaching with his paw swatting against the bars of the cage as we put our fingers in and dragged them across. I was not really paying that close attention to him because I was sad, because the cat we had seen earlier during the week was gone. I looked up at Steve and said, “Our cat’s gone, but look, he’s cute, too.” I looked at Mom and said, "Mom, can I please have him I’ll take care of him, I'll change the litter and do extra chores so I can earn money to take care of him." "No, I don’t want a cat and I said, mom," Steve said "I am buying him." Mom asked, "he is a boy right, I won’t have a girl animal ever. If you want the cat you find out what is the sex and lets pet him a while." I ran over to the clerk and grabbed the clerk and she took him out of the cage and place him in my arms. Mom he so tiny. He can almost fit in my palm. He is cute I guess you can have him, but I am not paying for him. Steve please, sure sweetie. He turned to mom next we work on a dog! “No way Mom replied. “We looked around the store, for things the kitten may need we bought a cage, a litter pan with litter and a bag
On February 5th, 2016 my family adopted our cat named Blair, but his story goes back much before that time. My family has had pets before, but they have all wandered into our family and we kept them. The first pet we sought out didn't fit our folk so we, unfortunately had to give him up. Blair was the next pet we were searching to find and we were nervous.
Cats can be intelligent, and wonderful pets. Sometimes its unbelievable what they do in their everyday life. There are so many breeds, that I plan to learn more about. Cats can control their feelings, and emotions. They are good at hunting, because they are strong and agile.
My first dog was named Toby, he was a very white, ball of fluff. He blended in with the shiny white crispy snow on December 25, 2006. My sisters and I were on our way home from my dad’s house when all of a sudden we pulled into my mom’s house. On Sunday, December 25, 2006, Toby was waiting at our house. We all got out of the car on that cold snowy day and walked on the slippery sidewalk. The snow was like a chilling carpet on the bottoms of our feet. My mom opened the door with a camera so my sisters and I knew something was up. A shocking step in the house and we saw a very fluffy dog, we were very excited. He was like a deer in headlights. There was a bunch of screaming and yelling going on at that moment between the three of us. We
