Living in the south you may frequently hear the saying “everything's bigger in Texas.” The food, teased hair, Whataburger sweet tea, but most importantly, football is one of the most intrinsic parts of the state. The dominating sport that makes America differ from the rest of the world is especially larger in Texas, but I had no idea how much I loved football until I went to an A&M game.
If you are familiar with the Fighting Texas Aggies, you know how much their traditions hold near and dear to them. On September 24th, 2016 I had the pleasure of attending my very first, and surely not last, Midnight Yell. Midnight Yell takes place the night before every football game and is used to gather the community and show their spirit. At Aggie games the student section has many yell calls that make their group unique to any other university. While I was huddled body-to-body, jostled around by alumni and current students, I kept hearing different unified screams. I had come to find out that each class has a distinct “yell” to help them finish a student section chant, for example the freshman scream “ay, ay, ay, ay, ay” to represent five missed gunshots that lead back to an old story where an animal met a couple of Aggies by a campfire and the shots were self defense.
It doesn’t all stop there, not only does Texas A&M have chants or yells, but if the students dislike a call from a referee or something happens and the opposing team is to blame, you’ll hear and see the student
At a pep rally it should be the entire school not separate grades sitting together. As a whole school it shows more
Collegiate athletics have long played an integral role in higher education in the United States. The popularity of collegiate football in America is unprecedented. “The fan frenzy surrounding teams, games, and the sport itself, is borderline barmy. Aptly described as the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat, fan emotions in college football are rampant” (Moore, B., 2010). Football programs are able to generate a great deal of revenue through gate receipts (Groza, M. D., 2010). Football game day attendance is also an excellent proxy for other revenues such apparel sales and concessions.
A united university through sports is often a rarity. College football can be one of the most intense experience in college sports. The passion and energy is nearly impossible to encapsulate into a single feeling. Sports teams and their fans share a bond that cannot be recon with. The colleges with prestigious athletic backgrounds have a numerous alumni who carry pride into every game day. A lot of fans equal a lot of fun, but attending an school with diehard fans is best part of college sports. College football has gained the reputation for becoming the most celebrated sport. The best way to celebrate a college football game is tailgating. Tailgating and college football have become such a tradition that it is hard to see one happening
Most people believe soccer is nothing but just a game , but for me, it's more than a game it's a passion. Soccer involves hard work , dedication , and long hours out in the field. It takes hard work to be out in the field playing with a ball aggressively and with skills. Soccer is a sport where there is no giving up , in order to be successful, you need to practice intensely to get stronger and better every day. There's times where you want to give up, but you just can't you need to find some type of motivation to keep you going. My coach is the person who has made an impact in my life . By that it changed me in many different ways. He has been able to motivate me , support me , and not letting me fail.
Students, parents, and siblings filling up the block with cheers, everyone screaming out their preferred High School team’s name. I went straight to the student section upon arriving, it was quickly filling up, hardly any space to move. The football teams then got on the field and the Palm Desert side went wild, water flying everywhere and students stomping to add noise. La quinta were the first to score, running the ball with very few 9 yards to go, scoring in the first quarter. Although, Palm Desert tried their best to get back in the game shortly after intercepting the ball to make the Palm Desert side get overwhelmed with excitement and have the coach run and hug the player who intercepted. Halftime came with La Quinta leading 7-0, close
Rare is it that warmth crowds wrath for the spotlight when the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Colorado Buffaloes crack helmets in their annual Big Eight showdown. Yet that was the mood this season at chilly Memorial Stadium in Lincoln as fans applauded loudly every senior playing his final home game.
However it’s not like Austin needed the economic help from Aggie fans but towns like Waco that is home to the Baylor Bears or Lubbock that is home to the Red Raiders that did. With those towns being “day trip distance” it draws many students and dedicated fans to attendance to those games to “pump money into their economy.” While in the Big 12 Texas A&M had an expense budget of about 70 million dollars, but there were some “top-tier” schools with a budget closer to 100 million and this was what A&M thought that the SEC could offer them (Sandhop, David). There was hope that there would be excitement and renewed support after making the change because some people get excited for something new. When there was rumors then conformation that the Aggies were joining the SEC the university was given a substantial amount of donations that were used as the base to start planning a renovation of Kyle Field to create an enclosure on the Southeast in zone that would also offer more luxury suites and a seat capacity of almost 100,000
Whether it be the crazy crowd at the Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium, or the Famous “BOOMER SOONER” chants sooner fans roar before the game. It might be the thousands of tailgaters that gather to cook hotdogs and burgers, or maybe it's a walk through Legends Lobby that gets fans ready to watch the game. Whatever it is this is Sooner Football. Rich History and tradition, created by talented players and coaches, has made Oklahoma Football into the powerhouse that it is today.
Going to a university where football is taken as serious as it is here at Arizona is an affair of it’s own. Personally, I had only experienced various high school football games, until September 3rd, 2015 when I decided to attend The University of Arizona vs. UTSA here at our home stadium. The school spirit, pride and student section, also known as the ZonaZoo, are all such huge contributions to the experience itself. Although football games are only one part of the community here at the U of A, they bring out the comradery in our student body as U of A students love to watch their school succeed against opponents.
Tailgating in the grove is my favorite aspect of Ole Miss, especially when the weather is as sunny as it was that Saturday. There was a feeling of excitement throughout the grove as students and families prepared for an afternoon of football. Being around rebel fans, I was reminded again of why I love Ole Miss. As kick off time drew near, I became more anxious to get to the student section. I had not signed up for the Rebel Run and was actually thankful that I did not have to run across the football
On Thursday, October 19, I attended the Sacred Heart versus Notre Dame hockey game. I have previously attended hockey games at Compton Family Ice Arena both in and out of the student section. However, this experience was slightly different than my previous ones since many students were still away for fall break. The lack of students created a much different atmosphere especially because at Notre Dame Hockey games the crowd tends to feed off the excitement of students. This was obvious during certain songs such as “Turn Down for What” by DJ Snake and Lil Jon which elicits strong responses from students but created little excitement minus the students. However, the crowd did feed off the band. The crowd joined in during “let’s go Irish”
For KU students, upholding this advantage is no challenge. Through signs, songs, and chants, the student section creates an intimidating environment for the opponents, while showing their undying support for the Jayhawk players.
Southwestern University: F The recent success of Southwestern University’s football program is causing SWU’s president, Joel Wisner, more problems than he faced during the team’s losing era in the early 1990s. For one thing, increasing game-day attendance is squeezing the town of Stephenville, Texas and the campus. Complaints are arising over parking, seating, concession prices, and even a shortage of programs at some games. Dr. Wisner, once again, turns to his stadium manager, Hank Maddux. This time, he needs a guaranteed revenue stream to help fuel the stadium expansion. One source of income could easily be the high-profit game programs. Selling for $6 each, programs are a tricky business. Under substantial pressure from

People have always loved to play games. The human race has created hundreds of thousands of games to entertain themselves and to compete with one another. The most beloved games are those of physical sports. One of these sports, that has become a worldwide phenomenon, is the game soccer. The entire world gathers every four years to send out their best team, and to see which country is the ultimate champion. To play the game of soccer, there needs to be referees to ensure that the players are safe and are following the rules. Though this was once a highly respected position, in Virginia, working as a referee is no longer worth the time, due to a lack of respect, no support system, and the constant variations and changes to the rules.
