We all know college is hard; if it were easy, everyone would have a degree and no one would ever ask for help. But here at Crafton Hills College, tutors are available to help out students in any way, so that those who struggle can do well and be successful. These mentors don’t just lecture, they take the time to make sure students understand and comprehend what is being taught. Tutors are at hand for a variety of subjects, some have appointments for one on one time and others are for use at one’s convenience. Besides the Tutoring Center, the library is also very resourceful and entirely useful. It’s filled with computers, private rooms, a small auditorium, a copy room and thousands of books (which are found on the top floor of the LRC). Writing tutors will encourage students to visit the library, especially when it comes to research papers. Now, continuing on to the Tutoring Center, a few more steps and you have reached a set of stairs that lead downward. Down these twenty or so steps is the Tutoring Center. After reaching the bottom, there is a small doorway to the left and a sign that says “Welcome to the Tutoring Center!”, as a confirmation that one is indeed in the right place. The Tutoring Center is a large rectangle shaped room, with small separate glass enclosed rooms around the edges. The rooms on the left and right are offices of some professors an instructors, while the back wall has some small rooms for study groups and private tutoring lessons, with one very large room painted bright yellow. A front desk is located to the immediate right once entered. Here is where anyone can receive information about the Tutoring Center and view waiting lists for certain subject tutors; flyers and booklets are also free to take. The center of the room has two long tables with twenty computers on both sides for student use, and on each side of those tables are four small square tables with four chairs each for groups or alone work. Providing a rich and varied context is essential, tutors should utilize a range of different methods to engage all students interests and learning styles. Identifying and meeting the learners needs are important so that tutors can facilitate students learning and ensure that both the students and tutors meet the required goals. Each learner is unique and brings to the learning situation their own different learning style, knowledge set, past experiences and motivational levels. It is important for tutors to consider the level of knowledge and skill development attained by the learners prior to instruction through a variety of different types of assessment, in order to offer a high quality learning experience, delivered and resourced to suit the needs of the learner. Tutors can assess learner needs through numerous means, such as; informal and formal assessment strategies, pre-course interviews and learning style tests. This will allow tutors to tailor lessons and activities to support learners individual needs.
The play, Macbeth, written by William Shakespeare, and the narrative, “Death of a Pig”, by E.B. White, both deal with tragedy—exploring how when people often test fate and attempt to control every single aspect of their lives, they fail in doing so, experiencing tremendous loss and sorrow. Ultimately, this central theme consistently develops and drives the respective stories, due to Shakespeare’s and White’s uses of structure, character, word choice, and rhetoric.

I am an AVID Tutor at my old high school Sierra Vista High School in Baldwin Park. This is going to be my second year working at SVHS and so far I love working at this school and helping the students. I work with sophomore, junior and, senior students. AVID is a college readiness program designed to help students develop the skills they need to be successful in college. It is also a program that motivates students to try to go to college. As an AVID tutor, I am responsible for helping the students by tutoring them in small groups in a specific subject matter (Math-History) by using homework/lesson discussion in groups. We use the Socratic questioning to get students to think critically about a problem they are struggling on and help them when they really cannot solve the question they have. Along with being able to get assistance from tutors, a significant number of students simply visit to be in an academic environment. Computers are available for heavy-computer-use classes, often with the necessary class Software pre-downloaded. There are also many items that students can check out with a valid student ID: textbooks, calculators, and class handouts (“Tutoring Center Brochure”). Along with that, human resources other than tutors are often available to students: peers taking the same classes. Students meeting peers who take the same classes as them brings a sense of camaraderie, and they are often able to collaborate on their exact class material and form study groups. When someone enters the tutoring center, they enter an academic environment containing a multitude of academic resources necessary for their success.
On either side of the help desk are areas that provide both comfortable seating and tables. One side has a large television and the other side offers a more studious environment. The space includes two charging stations with cables for a variety of different types of electronic devices. When I first visited the space at 9:30 am, there were only a few students. When I returned at 12:45 pm, students occupied almost every seat. Despite minimal socializing occurring the center was very popular.
Through reading The Canterbury Tales, Chaucer reveals what he thinks about the characters in the medieval society. She is small and sharp and angular. Her elbows hurt when they're pressed tightly against you and her small fingers dig into your sides. She rests her chin on your shoulder and it sinks into you. Her fingers are flat- but you always remember them flatter than they are. In your mind, they are a 2D part of her. Her hair looks as if someone set it aflame. It reminds you of October, of the orange, crisp leaves. While you are in no way overweight, you are definitely softer than her. Her hands are delicate, you’re always afraid you’ll crush them, so you hold her hand loosely. You can’t decide what color her eyes are. At first, they seem blue, but the next time you see her you could swear they’re green, and occasionally they look a stormy grey.
I sat on the soft, colorful carpet in the corner of the classroom, planning my next prodigious film! Would it be a sequel to my most famous and extravagant movie Argentina? That was my absolute favorite film, mainly because I liked the breathtaking musical numbers in it. I restore and rebuild cars and find myself tangled in the use of appropriate English to explain a process I use for specific situations. It takes a lot of time to explain the whole process, so I decided one night to make my own word to describe the process. The word I created explains the process. I was inspired by a book titled Frindle written by Andrew Clements that I read in elementary school. In my research I discovered many ways that new words can be created. These ways are the randomizer approach, making a noun have a new, different twist, and turning objects into verbs. I think everybody should know these three methods, so they too can make their own word or words to contribute to the English language.
I look out the small oval window as my carriage makes it way along the ruff, jerky and jarring dirt road. The darkness makes the tree branches look as if they are reaching out towards me, causing me a slight feeling of unease. The rain bashing hard against the window reminds me of the night it all happened. As my carriage travels over a large bump I am jolted in my seat, startling me as my mind had drifted to memories of that dreadful night. I try to look away from the window and think of something else when a loud crack of thunder alarms me. More memories from that night. I look down to my hands in my lap and realise that I have been nervously moving them together subconsciously, ‘a nervous habit I need to stop’ I think to myself. I wonder how far away I am from the destination? I again look out the window and notice how dark the night looks, caused by the dark storm clouds and gigantic trees that loom overhead.
I raced through the city; my heart was beating faster and faster with every stride. The air coursed through my brindle-colored coat. With me is my closest companion, my sister, Mabel. She only came along because I told her there would be birds she could chase. But the real reason I wanted to go was to explore the city in which I was born.

RIINNGGG. The alarming sound coming from the school bell interrupted my nap as I had been sleeping through a lengthy lecture about Ludwig Van Beethoven. I looked out the window, seeing the long, gray clouds covering the sky. I guessed that it might rain sooner or later. I yawned softly, quickly glancing around to make sure no one noticed that I had taken a snooze the whole period.
I remember entering the large but seemingly lifeless cafeteria. The lunch room was full of other high schoolers. I felt as if the lunch room was empty and I was alone. Just the recognition of not one person there deals the lonely card. Nobody recognized me. Not even one person, I looked left, I looked right, I looked down at my lunch. I pretend to check my phone for the notification that wasn’t there. I was the new guy, again. Starting from scratch is tough, but when it happens twice in two years, it seems borderline impossible to fit in.
