The text explicitly states Scrooge, a squeezing, wrenching, grasping, clutching, covetous, old sinner has passed away. According to the text, he despises many things such as happiness, humor, and even Christmas. From the reading, I know that he is depressed all the time, consequently his mental state has led him to call other people stupid, dumb, and idiots. On page three, in the conversation with his nephew Fred, Scrooge insults his nephew about marrying and loving his wife. The text states, that he also “seized the ruler with such energy of action, that the singer fled in terror, leaving the keyhole to the frost and even more congenial frost.” From the reading I know that Scrooge isn’t a people person and is very down about life. Based on the text he doesn’t really like being around them. For example Scrooge didn’t donate any money to the poor, and blew off his nephew about spending Christmas with them. In the text it states that there is no wind as bare as Scrooge, this means he doesn't really care or doesn't have many feelings.
The first ghost came when the clock pounded one. A horrid fusion among a child and an old man the ghost opens the Scrooge's bed curtains. According to the text the spirit is very vivid and bright. So the ghost takes Scrooge to his old school. According to the text Scrooge actually starts to laugh for the first time at the appearance of him reading fantasy books. Consequently he wasn't outdoors, playing with the other kids. The second place the ghost took Scrooge was where he and his sister were talking about their father being sent away. From the reading of the first spirit Scrooge really likes the first spirit for being very generous and thoughtful for taking Scrooge and showing him motivational parts in his life. The ghost of Christmas past helped Scrooge learn that there is more in life other than being morose all the time, there is amusement, family, bliss, and ambitious life to live. When Scrooge puts his hand on the lock he heard an articulation call his name and commanded him to enter. He did as the voice said. The enormous giant of Christmas present said look upon me. He had scarcely done so. The giant family wanted Scrooge to stay for supper. Scrooge
Charles dickens uses insults to portray Scrooge 's unpleasant personality. This can be alluded from Stave 1 in the novel where Scrooge can be seen snubbing the charity workers who came seeking for a donation. "If they would rather die, [...] they had better do it, and decrease the surplus population.", such insult allows the reader to comprehend that Scrooge is nothing more than a greedy man who solely believes that the peasants are just money scammers and that they should all be locked up in a "prison". Today 's audience will see Scrooge this way and agree that he is a misery, bitter old man, who doesn 't like giving away however back in the 19th century the audience would not be shocked to see a wealthy man as selfish as Scrooge. It was common in London at the time to see factory workers exploiting children who worked in hard conditions by hurting them with the most dangerous work and the cruelest words which is why I can only but say that Scrooge is an unpleasant, old wretch.
At the beginning of A Christmas Carol, Scrooge is greedy, mean and rude. Scrooge is greedy because he won't even allow his clerk to have enough coal to keep him warm. He insists on saving money by burning only enough coal to keep a small flame glowing whether the heat that it puts out is sufficient to keep the clerk warm. (pg 2). Scrooge is mean because nobody ever stopped him in the street to say, with gladsome looks, “My dear Scrooge, how are you?” “When will you come and see me?” Even the dogs bring their owners inside the house.(pg 3). Scrooge is rude because he was mean to his nephew. “A merry Christmas, uncle! God save you!” cried a cheerful voice. It was the voice of Scrooge’s nephew, who came upon him so quickly that this was the first intimation he had of his approach. “Bah!” said Scrooge, “Humbug!” “Christmas a humbug, uncle!” Said Scrooge’s nephew. “You don’t mean that, I am sure?” “ I do,” said Scrooge. (pg 4-5). Scrooge changes from these traits through his experience with the ghosts of the past, present, and future.
Scrooge is a miserly, old scoundrel of a man who is very weather worn and has no friends. From the inside out, he is a cranky, rough, heartless soul, he does not like anybody. Accordingly, to the text, it says that he is the grumpiest grumpy that ever lived, he was a tight fisted hand at the grindstone, a squeezing wrenching, grasping, scraping, clutching, old sinner! Hard and sharp as a flint, from which no steel had struck out generous fire;secret, and self contained, and solitary as an oyster. Scrooge is greedy, ungrateful, and selfish. He does not care about his nephew. He doesn't care that his nephew fell in love and got married. Scrooge is so mean, cruel and selfish that when three men come to ask if he will donate to the poor, not only does he not give any money, he also says that the homeless can go to a homeless jail or go work in a factory.
Scrooge had a miserable childhood where he was always in a boarding school and his parents never visited him. If you were sent to a boarding school and felt your parents forgot you, would you be an angry adult? Scrooge in the Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens is a major character in the story in which he is not very nice to anybody because of his life happenings. When he appears in the story, he is greedy and doesn’t want to like anybody, he is a very unhappy man that only cares about himself. But at the end he kind of is clear that he was very childish and that he didn’t care about anyone else but himself so he decided he wanted to change his act. While he is with all the spirits, he goes from greedy and mean to clear of his mistakes, he wanted to be nice to everybody, and wanted to tell people that, by giving back to them in any way possible.
Based on what I read, Scrooge is a tight fisted-hand at the grindstone. As a squeezing, wrenching, grasping, scraping, clutching covetous old sinner, his reputation in the community is perceived as a ill-mannered man. According to the text, Scrooge is hard and sharp as flint, from which no steel has ever struck out generous fire; secret, and self-contained, and solitary as an oyster. In the text it states that, “Scrooge’s appearance is topped with his frosty rime on his head and his eyebrows makes him appear shrewd and cold.” Scrooge pronounce “What’s Christmas time to you but paying bills without money; a time for finding yourself a year older, but not an hour richer; a time for balancing your books and having everything.
The ghost that that I believe that had the most effect on scrooge was the ghost of future because it showed him how people talk about he was in life it showed how how dull the life of his employees life was since his youngest son tiny Tim passed away
Scrooge is a very impolite, gloomy, depressed, sad person with no friends. He hates many things such as happiness and even Christmas. Also him being depressed all the time leads him to call other people stupid and idiots. Scrooge insults his nephew about marrying and loving his wife. Scrooge almost hits someone in the face with a ruler because they try to carol at his house. From the reading I know that Scrooge isn’t a people person and is very down about life. Based on the text he doesn’t really like being around them. For example Scrooge didn’t donate any money to the poor, and blew off his nephew about spending Christmas with them. In the text it states that there is no wind as bare as Scrooge, this means he doesn't really care or doesn't have many feelings.
Based on what I read Scrooge is a grumpy person that is commanding and doesn't feel for anyone. Dickens doesn't like this and says it is a big no-no is his world. Scrooge spends money on only what he needs to get by. He doesn't get why Christmas is such a big deal. In fact, he hates the Christmas cheer and expresses his feelings. He despises poor people and say that they should go to jail. He does not have any joy, but he’s not depressed. Scrooge almost wants to damage people's day and does it often. The text says he is a hard worker as it states “he was a tight-fisted hand at the grind-stone, Scrooge! A squeezing, wrenching, grasping, scraping, clutching, covetous, old sinner!” He can also really stand the elements, the cold., the hot, the rain, the snow, the… anything. Not only can he withstand the elements, but based on the information from the text I inferred that he is the elements, resilient and unforgiving. Even though he is freaked out from before he still checks out a dark, gloomy building, showing he is brave. But Scrooge is dead.
Soon after Scrooge came back to reality, he visits them. His happiness bursts through to door as he pushes it down, and the family is happy to mingle.
Then, Scrooge met the ghost of Christmas present who took him to the house of Cratchit to show Cratchit’s lovely Christmas and his family’s happiness. Also, the ghost of Christmas present took him to his nephew Fred’s house. Lastly, the ghost of Christmas yet to come showed Scrooge himself dying in a cold room. Far from his death, people were rejoicing rather than grieving. He was shocked after watching all of them, so he desperately sought mercy from the ghost. When he woke up, all of them were just a dream thus he repented. He sent a turkey to Cratchit’s house, donated some money to poor people, and participated a Christmas party in Fred’s house.
Scrooge is excessively angry, rude, unfriendly character. Scrooge’s cruel actions to most others are unkind, especially when it’s about Christmas. The bitterness drive in Scrooge against Christmas is very strong. Scrooge also hates things such as love, happiness, generosity, and regards them as irrational until such time that a rightful trio of ghosts came to set him right. Charles Dickens paints him as an old businessman, with a ring of frosty white hair on his head, a pointed nose, red eyes, thin eyebrows, and a wiry chin. Scrooge is so acutely cold inside, it makes his lips blue, the tip of his nose strawberry red. The book describes him as hard and sharp as flint, self-contained, and solitary like an oyster. Scrooge is described as a
him recover his past and peaceful self. . Scrooge’s experience felt fancied. On page one of the first passage it says “ Scrooge is the grumpiest grump that ever walked on planet earth.” In the text, it said “ Scrooge makes him leave (his nephew) but not before he insults his marriage because it is based on love.”I know that is a very excellent reason to back up that he is a very mean and rude man. Another example from the text says “ A couple of guys came up asking for donations for the poor, Scrooge tells them to stuff it.” Another fine example of how much he hates Christmas is “Scrooge says it is the one time of year when the clerk is allowed to rob him.” It also says, “ If someone comes by to carol Scrooge almost hits him in the head with a ruler. “ I could drive on but that would be boring…
The night of the first spirit was near to appear. Scrooge was stern but brave and patient. He waited, waited and waited, then a flash of light streaked across the colossal bedroom. There in his presence was a shining light of the beautiful spirit. Scrooge asked who was this mysterious spirit. The spirit spoke “I am the ghost of Christmas past “ of whose past spirit, scrooge said. “Your past “ the spirit once said. The spirit wandered around with scrooge of his Christmas past. At an instance they were in the hands of his old church. Scrooge said to the spirit “i remember this place” Scrooge felt something in his heart that he has not felt before in a long time, happiness. They traveled to another place that Scrooge has in his brain that stores
The first of the three spirits was the spirit of Christmas past. The spirit of Christmas past took ol’ dolorous Scrooge to see his past childhood. The text states that “they passed through Scrooge’s wall, and stood upon an open country road, with fields on either end.” This city had vanished in present time. “Good Heaven! Said Scrooge, clasping his hands together, as he looked about him. ‘I was bred in this place, I was a boy here.” The significance is
Old Scrooge is talked about in the text as a “tight-fisted hand at the grindstone” meaning hard working and a “a squeezing, wrenching, grasping, scraping, clutching, covetous, old sinner.” It shows he refuses to come over for dinner to eat with his own nephew and his nephew’s wife, he doesn’t that they’re married because they married for love. This old miser especially doesn’t help the poor and hates Christmas! His response to both is“Bah Humbug”!The text describes him even more stating “the cold within him froze his old features, nipped at his pointed nose, shriveled his cheeks, stiffened his gait, made his eyes red , frosty rime on his head, his thin lips blue and spoke out shrewdly in his grating voice. Scrooge might just stay that way, but, can a trio of spirits change the covetous, sinister ways of Scrooge?
