The weather was beautiful that day. The water was a million shades of blue. The The waters were calm, with the occasional swell rolling to shore. I stood at the helm of this luxurious 40 foot boat. It was an all white boat that had a special design for SCUBA Diving and Open Water fishing, called a Mako. I steered the boat into a pretty unprotected bay that had a nice black sand beach to the north and sheer cliffs to the south. The green vegetation clearly contrasted with the black lava fields around it.The water was deep in the bay. Yet the coral reef was visible even in the deepest spots. The boat was swaying ever so slightly rocking with the tides as i stepped away from the helm. I dropped the anchor and looked over to my best friend Brianna. She was sitting on a bench near the stern of the boat fiddling with her fins. She was a beautiful “Hapa” Filipino, White girl. She had the most mesmerizing eyes, that I caught myself on many occasions just staring at them, Her hair was wavy and dark brown, caked by the ocean salt. She was wearing a blue and white one piece swimsuit full of flower and tropical designs on the sides. There was an expensive, black diving mask across her forehead, as if she was wearing raised sunglasses. She had this strong athletic presence to her. And was a very confident swimmer. She always seemed to know what I was thinking. I smiled when I looked at her, I was glad she was there with me that day. Across from her stood a dear friend named patrick
The skin on the bottom of my feet clenched the foam surfboard as the Colorado water chilled my spine. The sound of the music from the sapphire blue Malibu Wake Surf edition blared as my ear drums rattled. The teal water seemed to stare back at me with suspense. “Tell me when you’re ready!” someone barked out from inside the boat. Still astounded by the beauty of Navajo Lake being a place where I’ve been before but I have never really noticed the beauty until now. I poked my eyes up from neon green surfboard to the person on the boat and gave them a relieved thumbs up. The engine roared, my heart raced, the nose of the surfboard went up, no regrets.
Traveling is one of my family’s favorite things to do. The family has visited numerous places throughout the United States, however, none are as memorable as Atlanta, Georgia. In Atlanta, there are many places to go and sights to see such as: Cola-cola factory, Cabbage Patch Kids Factory, Under Ground Mall, the Zoo, Atlanta Braves Stadium, Six Flags Over Georgia, Stone Mountain Park, and the Atlanta Aquarium, are all in or near the city of Atlanta. The three that we visit on every trip to Atlanta are Six Flags, Stone Mountain, and the Atlanta Aquarium.
The ocean was so calm and stretched as far as the eye could see. It changed color with the light and the depth, from green to blue to dark blue. At twilight, you can't tell the ocean from the sky. The sky was so blue and not a cloud could be seen for miles. It made me feel at peace and so harmonious. There was the scent of saltwater in the air, a scent like no other. There around we could see sharks swimming calmly in the waters of the Caribbean Sea. They were so beautiful even though they are predators of the sea. On the boat everyone was very quiet, in fear, with the only hope of getting to our destination safely. The boat was overcrowded and no one could move or they would have risked tipping it over and sinking. There were 150 people in a small boat, mostly family with children. Time went by and after a few hours of sailing we heard the magic words when the captain yelled, “Everybody relax we are out of Cuban territory, you are free! We are now on international waters”. That’s when everybody started crying and cheering with excitement. Time once again began to pass by slowly, and I remember at one point the sky started painting in an array of pink, orange and yellow, and before long the pale glow of the moon was beginning to show. Soon enough the sky started to turn black and all the stars starting to shine up in the
It didn’t seem worth it anymore. The whale sharks were nowhere to be seen. Our tour guide had warned us that the whale sharks feeding season in the area was coming to an end and that maybe we wouldn’t be able to see them today. I just didn’t think this would actually happen, a 10 hour journey for what? Suddenly I began to hear splashes of water coming from the side of the boat. A group of dolphins swarmed around the boat; this made me feel a little better. Although the sour taste of lime began to erupt my mouth as I begin to remember what we really travelled out here
I breathe in the warm air as I gaze out at my beautiful home. So wide I’m not even certain I’ve seen all it’s beauty that lies beneath. I can see the shadows of tiny fish swimming above the soft sand. They are so small they look as though they are microscopic. I reach down and run my hands through the wet substance that is so thick that my muscles grow tired the deeper my hand goes. As I lift my hand up, the sand makes a cloud of powder, slowly drifting through the water. The waters are so calm as though nothing could anger them. Each wave slowly rocking back and forth to the rhythm of the sea. I lower my fins beneath the water and a coolness rushes through me as I feel the cold, wet water. The soft breeze brushes against my skin with the scent of an indescribable satisfaction. Hours passed as the warmth of the sun seemed to just soak into my skin and relax my mind.
It was a sunny Friday afternoon when I decided to take my observations with me out into the world. This day happened on my spring break, in the beginning of April, my senior year. As I walked upon the beach the salty, floating breeze of Panama City was enough to make my knees go weak. I looked into the clear blue sky and saw the perfection of life. I took a moment to think about what nature has offered to me. Everything on this beach has its own unique feature and it has its own way of making you feel calm and relaxed.
I could feel the nice breeze hitting my face as I looked at all of the islands around us. When I felt better, I went back below and saw that the scuba divers had just jumped in and were trying to find some sea creatures, soon, they brought up a sea urchin and brought it up to the window so that everyone could see and inspect it. They did the same with a few more interesting animals like a starfish. I got seasick again so I had to go back up on top of the boat until the end of the ride. I loved the boat ride, but it felt amazing, but also weird to be back on the land. “Ugh”, I groaned. My legs were so sore and I too warm and hungry. My dad wanted to eat, too. We went to eat at the restaurant that was painted light blue with a painted sign and
The sea was like a rippling blanket of jewelled blue. I gazed out around me, taking in the panorama of breathtaking views, from the silk-like sky to the horizon, a line of nickel silver. I watched the water lap gently at the edge of the yacht, hypnotising me. I pulled on my flippers, adjusted my snorkel and fell backwards into the the depths of the tropical sea.
As I am floating I look up at the cloudless blue sky and start reminiscing on how the wind blew in my hair as we drove past the classic neon signs and pastel colored buildings Miami Beach offers. We walked past a long and hard wood bridge to finally find that magical scenery we were all expecting to see. Squinting my eyes a bit I could see the radiant blue waters straight ahead. Unexpectedly, I felt someone tugging my arm and I opened my eyes to find a large quantity of colorful sized fish swimming around my feet. I could feel their bodies brushing my leg as they attempted to swim to the shallow
We ran into the ocean and sat in the kayak. We had gone pretty far out into the ocean. I could smell the slimy seaweed. The coolness of the ocean water up against my face felt relaxing. I was in my happy place. The sun was shimmering down on us, making the ocean shine, like a sea full of diamonds.
The waves crashing around us reminded me of the distant thunder you hear at the start of a storm. My hands were gripping the rope handles tightly, my knees scratching against the rubber that lay beneath us. As we soared over green, murky water, I could smell the fishy stench from the creatures that lived below. I was having emotions of excitement and fear, but soon the excitement sank as we drifted out of line from the boat leading us.
I sit here, alone, in a cold sweat on a summer night in the black pacific night. My body cringing from the struggle of rowing out to sea. I don’t know why I came, maybe it was depression, maybe it was out of frustration, maybe to escape the world. I hear the boat crying out for me, the squeaking, the screaming pain, the wood dressed in chipped light blue paint. The moon’s light can’t reach me because of the thick, smoggy clouds. I hear the thunder roaring and what seems to be like it’s yelling at me. I hear the waves clapping and leaping up the side of the boat as it rocks side to side. The sights I see when I look around me is just darkness and the black, almost gross, black water. I tremble in fear, my hands shake, but I just
The sound of the emerald green ocean water crashing against the shores filled my ears. Children ran along the shore, smiling from ear to ear while laughing amongst each other clearly enjoying their day. Some people were searching contently for sea shells, that were visible for miles. I looked out at the ocean, it stretched out far into the horizon; as far as my eyes could see. There were jetty’s that were perfectly placed within the ocean. I could smell the salt radiating off of the water. I had been waiting for this moment for a long time; I dashed into the ocean I’d been waiting for for the past
I headed out to the water after setting up my towel. The shock of the frigid water took my breath away and I was momentarily stunned. However, I quickly recovered; finding my body adjusts rapidly to the cold water. I waded a few feet into it before leaning forward and swimming out. I didn't dare to go too far though, instead turning to swim parallel to the shore. I was comforted by the sounds of the ocean; the rhythmic pounding of the waves represses all of my worries. I looked into the cloudless cerulean blue sky and see the perfection of life. Just when I was starting to get tired and wanted to go back to the shore, I saw something.
It had been a beautiful morning and the boat, Grandeur of the Sea, was rocking from the waves. I could smell the fresh air of the ocean. All around me, people were hustling with their families to get ready for their excursions for the day. The boat had just arrived at Nassau, one of the islands in the Bahamas. We had eaten a big "all you could eat" breakfast. My family and I were ready to get off the boat, and head to our excursion to swim with dolphins. I was so excited to swim with dolphins, because I want to be a marine biologist. I've always felt a connect, and a love towards the ocean and the creatures that live within its glorious vastness. I love dolphins because of their gracefulness, and intelligence. I've always found dolphins playful, and curious manners fascinating. So, to finally get a chance to interact and swim with them was a dream came true. To get off the boat, we went through security, and then met our group outside of the boat. We rode on a catamaran, through the crystal-clear water to the beautiful resort on Balmoral Island. The ride to the island was breathtaking. I could see stunning coral reefs beneath the boat.
