Making the right decision isn't always easy especially when choosing a university/college because you would be spending money and time on a university/college that may or may not help you so you would really need to look into them before making a decision.
At some point in their lives, everyone faces a decision pertaining to college. Whether the question is “What college is best for me?” or “Is college really something I’d like to pursue?”, it is never an easy task to dictate what to do with the rest of your life. If a high school student ends up deciding college is where they want to go next, they need to decided specifically where they want to apply. Though choosing a college can have a very opinionated decision, there are a few characteristics that can determine which colleges are better than others. Some of these characteristics include freshman retention rate, the percentage of college freshmen that stay at the university passed their freshman year, and the difficulty of acceptance of the university.
Traveling is one of my family’s favorite things to do. The family has visited numerous places throughout the United States, however, none are as memorable as Atlanta, Georgia. In Atlanta, there are many places to go and sights to see such as: Cola-cola factory, Cabbage Patch Kids Factory, Under Ground Mall, the Zoo, Atlanta Braves Stadium, Six Flags Over Georgia, Stone Mountain Park, and the Atlanta Aquarium, are all in or near the city of Atlanta. The three that we visit on every trip to Atlanta are Six Flags, Stone Mountain, and the Atlanta Aquarium.
Decisions are everything in life, they choose everything from your future to your destiny. Such as my life after high school I will either go to college or work at McDonalds. After that last sentence I have came to a conclusion that college is the decision for me. College will be one of the hardest decisions of your life, it's like in fourth grade picking rock, paper, or scissors; you want to pick the right one. There are three main colleges I want to choose from and I would be happy with any one of them no matter what. The three colleges I want all have pretty good track teams which is a must, and a wide range of medical courses. I will be examining the three schools with the criteria of good athletics, has a wide range of medical courses,
Importance of the Problem Attention to student retention and success remains a significant priority among universities across the globe. Trends to support academic success programs among freshman that increase second year persistence and timely graduation at postsecondary institutions continue to be adopted. As more states implement funding based funding, campuses have a more targeted focus and have increased attention on student retention and completion rates. The increase in accountability has been enforced in many states, at the same time campuses are adjusting to significant decreases in state funding. Campuses
There’s no one to talk to... I hate this place. The smell, the silence, the way that time hangs in the air catalyses my irritation. I scream yet no one hears. I question but no one answers. I’m just waiting for the day I die and no one finds me. I guess I won’t be there to enjoy that.
By mid-morning it was blistering hot outside. The metal box of a train car meant even higher temperatures inside the non-air-conditioned box car. The camels didn’t seem to mind but I was about to wilt. We were nearly to Huntsville when the train stopped again. Across the tracks from where we stopped an older man stood watering his flowers. Water never looked so cool and inviting as it did that hot Summer morning. I must not have been the only one the water called to as at about the same time, as if on cue, a half a dozen of us hopped off the train and ran over to where the water bearer was standing. One of us asked if we could borrow his hose. He replied with a smile and handed it over, laughing as we doused ourselves and each other with the cool liquid. Holding the hose over my head, I first tensed from the shock of the cold water hitting my head then relaxed as it ran down my body, quenching my parched skin. Thankfully, our train waited just long enough for us to get some relief before jolting awake. Thanking our anonymous friend, I handed him the hose as we all ran back to our silver carriage, waving as we pulled away. I’ve often wondered what he thought about that day. Did he tell the story about the time the circus train stopped at his house to have a water party?
Someone once said, “Never base your life decision on advice from people who don’t have to deal with the results.” Choosing which college you should attend is a stressful, arduous, exciting, and terrifying process filled with endless conundrums and choices. However, the end result, the college that provides oneself with the best education, career opportunities, and general satisfaction, is well worth the mental and physical toll that the search takes on an individual. So, how do you circumvent the twists and turns of fate and determine your dream school? The answer is rather simple: do it yourself. In the end, you are the one going to college, not your parent, teacher, grandparent, brother, sister, the guy behind the computer making the college rankings, or anyone else. Though your decision may be influenced by a variety of sources, it is your responsibility to walk your own fulfilling and enriching path. Consequently, the best way to determine your perfect college match is to drown out the rankings and do your own research, research that considers every factor that is important to you.
Jack was sitting cross-legged on the wooden floor of his tree house. He shivered in the evening air, slouching inside his hoodie, his eyes glued to the pages of his graphic novel. At eleven years old, he was a voracious reader and completely unaware that the sun had set. He had been using his flashlight for over an hour, propped under his chin so his hands could hold the book open. His collie puppy, Lex, had been patient but was starting to think about his fluffy bed and treats in the house. He pushed his head between the book and Jack, using his saddest face and even whimpering a little.
I breathe shakily as I walk to the airport gate. In eleven hours I’m going to be in Argentina, living with a different family, and speaking in a foreign language. An older woman startles me out of my thoughts when she asks if she’s at the correct gate. I nod. After too long a pause I interrupt her conversation with another older woman to ask if I can practice my Spanish with them. They kindly agree, and I stumble over the correct conjugations as I try to make casual conversation. They respond quickly, and I’m instantly lost. My heart sinks as I thank them. I’m already bargaining with myself as we board the plane. It’s going to be okay, I still have eleven hours to learn conversational Spanish.
I raced through the city; my heart was beating faster and faster with every stride. The air coursed through my brindle-colored coat. With me is my closest companion, my sister, Mabel. She only came along because I told her there would be birds she could chase. But the real reason I wanted to go was to explore the city in which I was born.
My hands start to shake as I step into the ice arena. I can’t tell if I’m nervous or just freezing. The ceiling is decorated with annoying pink and yellow streamers. Seems to be right up Susan’s alley. Susan was a friend I wasn’t used to having. She was one of the most popular girls in school and liked by other peers. Today, however, her persona was more timid and worrisome than usual. I turn my gaze towards her hands fidgeting on her shirt and look up to see her eyes with regret. Skating over to lighten her mood, her mouth forms the words “I’m so sorry”. What did she do? Especially to me? It was her birthday and I definitely did not want to spoil that. Susan grips my arm and pulls me over to the frosty hand rail. With big puffs of breath, she mutters “Please don’t get mad at me, but Aila was invited to the party”. I could feel my breathing getting short and my cheeks rosy and hot. No matter what Susan said or did, nothing could make up for inviting someone who has it out for me.
There were waves of adrenaline pumping through my body. A million heart beats per second. I was beyond curious to see what lie behind those huge sliding doors. So many cultures and places I was ready to explore. I could not wait to see a whole new way of life. Once I stepped out of the airport, I could feel the warm and humid air against my skin. Thoughts rushed through my brain all at once. I was so excited to see part of the world that I have never seen before. My family managed to find a taxi that could fit us, and all the baggage that we came with. The leather seats of the car were cold, a relief from the hot weather. I sat in the car, glancing out of the window the entire way to our hotel. The hotel was tall and had a cubic shape. A turquoise green color with large, white beams running across it. When I stepped out of the taxi, there were people at the entrance to greet us. My father checked into the hotel, and then we traveled out near the pool and lounging area. Their was a crystal clear pool. As well as a gargantuan, abstract structure. It was white and resembled a giant goldfish. We looked out and could see the ocean. There were people parasailing and jet skiing. I immediately remembered the time I was in Mexico, all the people out on the water. The sunset reflected perfectly on the ocean. Distinctly remembering the fresh water scent ventilating around in the air. I got a similar rush being in both places, excitement and overwhelm took over my body completely. I felt two emotions at the same time, all tangled up in me. The view of this place was utterly breathtaking. The sun was beaming, and people below us were bustling. I could smell the ocean from the hotel, it was a comforting smell. As if I were on the beach or on a boat sailing away. The feeling that I got, when I stood above the new world below me, is something that is hard to forget.
I never knew the moment I would step into that elevator, that my once boring morning would flip upside down. I stepped out of my hotel room, purse in hand and ready to take on the day. I walked down the hall into a small section where two elevators were located. I patiently waited for one of the elevator doors to open, and I noticed a woman standing next to me. Her attire consisted of a fancy blouse, and a skin tight skirt. I turned my head away before I could get caught staring, and at that moment the elevator door opened. We both stepped in and I pressed the first floor button then looked over at the lady to see if she needed to go somewhere different. She gave me a slight nod, indicating she was going to the same place I was. As the elevator door started closing, a girl quickly blocks the door from closing with her hand.
Iowa State University offers a large campus. The campus itself entirely is around the size of my hometown. I have lived on campus for a few weeks now, and I know most of the campus, yet spend most of my time in my dorm. Whenever I am not in my dorm or in class though, I often find myself wandering around campus. When wandering around campus I usually look for the best spots for me just in case I want to sit around and relax.
