I have always loved the fair. The atmosphere of hearing kids screaming on rides and seeing old couples walking around together holding hands laughing over the screaming of everyone. Thousands of people gathering together to get a thrill over the terrifying rides and eating the not so good, but delicious, greasy food they have every year. The fair is a place to make memories. Memories that you will look back on for the rest of your life. Every year I go to the Dixie Classic Fair. It’s the food that’s not so good for me, and the terrifying rides that are some how so much fun to be on that keep me going back every year. The first time I ever went to the fair was with my family when I was about nine years old. My sister would always like to
The fair was a marvel of construction, planning and architecture for the day. Never had anything on that scale, in the time frame that was given, been attempted. In around 2 years, the builders terraformed a piece of blasted wasteland into the finished product. They built massive buildings on ground that was basically quicksand before they started. Olmstead landscaped the whole site, with construction going on, in a period of months. The construction effort suffered many setbacks and disasters, with the wind and rain destroying many buildings as they were being built. They built the fair in these trying conditions, with labor problems, it was a miracle.
The words Exposition President David R. Francis could be heard loudly over the noises of the visitors "Open ye gates ,Swing wide ye portals .Enter herein ye sons of men and behold the achievements of your race. Learn the lesson here taught and gather from it inspiration for still greater accomplishments." In 1904 the Louisiana purchase exposition (Informally known as the St. Louis World's Fair) opened its doors for all to see. The Fair marked the 100th anniversary of the 1803 Louisiana Purchase. The fair was supposed to originally open in 1903, it was delayed to allow for more states and countries to participate in such a grand event and instead it opened on April 30th 1904. The largest fair to date, it stretched over 1,200 acres of land in forest park and on the present day campus of Washington University The process of organizing, planning, constructing, and running the Louisiana Purchase Exposition changed St. Louis. The huge transformation of Forest Park from a woody area surrounded by swamps into a exhibit of the latest thinking in urban design.
Today marks the day where the state fair comes to town and they released a new ride called “Erikson’s ride”
The author achieved his purpose of saying Southern Fairs are not as bad as they are commonly concepted as. In addition, people tend to criticize them as too rustic, or too embarrassing. However, shown through his positive word choice and outlook people should attend to Southern Fairs, and realize it is a one chance in a lifetime for people to experience.
When I came back to the Fairgrounds two days later and it turned out that it was still sort of clean (I came during the middle of the day around 3). It turned out that the entire group of people that I had worked with that monday had all spent time before the fair everyday, to pick up the ground. I was very happy to see that the Fairgrounds was very clean and that people were working together to keep it
Many people don 't know where Croton Ohio is because it is a small village and not much happens there, once a year the small town that I grew up in is heavily traveled by fair goers. Croton is better known as Hartford, because the Hartford fair is located there, Hartford is the name of the township in which it is located in the North West corner of Licking County. The township i grew up in was the one neighboring to the East. Here unlike large cities, such as Newark, Columbus, and Cincinnati, everyone knows everyone and we are all friends or family in some way or another. This compares to another life story written in this magazine because it shows two different ways of life in the same county.
What my fair means to my community was the question, but the answer I concluded was most intriguing. For some the fair is something to come and connect with old friends, colleagues or relatives perhaps. For others the fair is to bring their animals to compete, or see who has the best showmanship and the best quality of animal. For the other individuals of the community they come to our fair because they want to take part in showing their business or vending. That is one of the great parts of our fair because usually the products are handmade and unique to their own kind. For some they come for the art, the music, the rides, the food and the list goes on. Overall the most meaningful about my fair is that the community not only comes together,
When you walk into the fair from the entrance you can see the dirt in the air. The smell of the popcorn is like a peaceful smell. The sound of tractors is loud and it kind of sounds like a buzzing bee. The feel of the dust on my face makes me feel sticky. Also, the taste of my walking taco is delicious every bite. I had to throw the football into 3 hoops and I missed. I was mad because if I got all 3 footballs in the 3 hoops I would’ve got a football jersey! I was able to spend time with my best friend Brylan and his family. Brylans little brother won a giant aired up baseball bat and kept on hitting us with it. The State Fair is so much better than tulip time because at the State Fair there is a lot more
The beginning of festivals in Delaware strongly impacts how and why they are important today.Three popular festivals in Delaware are The Delaware State Fair, The Apple Scrapple Festival, and The Punkin Chunkin. The Delaware State Fair began in 1919 in Harrington railroad station around a potbelly stove. The population for the meetings grew which forced them to change the meeting spot. Because everyone seemed so eager about such event this helped formulate the Kent and Sussex County Fair which was incorporated
Tons of families go for the real agriculture experience. Whether people show or not the state fair is a destination that lots go to have fun. Dates are August 10th through August 20th. More than 1 Million people show up each year to this event and the numbers keep growing as each year goes on. A famous exhibition is the buttermilk cow, and that attracts a lot of people attending the Fair. The buttermilk cow was vandalized in 2013 by PEETA. PEETA stands for People for Ethical Treatment of Animals. I would have Anthony Bourdain try lots of different types of food there. One well-known of food there is deep fat fried ice cream. Lots of carnival type food is sold there in different food stands. Rides are available for kids as well as renting golf carts for people that don't want to walk as much as the rest. Spending time at the Iowa State Fair can be fun but costly if you do not watch what you by. Let alone the fact that it is twelve dollars for adults and six dollars for kids to get in at the
I have been to the Pecan Festival at St.Rita for ten years now. I went to my first Pecan Fest when I was only two years old and I probably just ran around and did not go on any rides. But when I was little, my favorite part of the Pecan Festival was the games in the courtyard.
Sitting down waiting for it to start. Looking around at everyone, trying to see if I knew anyone. As it started, we all just sat there and enjoyed the show. Bulls running, horses running and sometimes people screaming. Laughing with my family was the best part when being there.
I do so miss going to the Holly Day Fair! Back In The Day, our group of Fair goers consisted of MyMama (Rosa), Aunt Dixie, Mama (Martha Lou), & Myself! Years passed, our Quartet became a Trio, then a Duo! Mama continued to call me every year and plan our visit, even the years that she went multiple times. As many of you know, She liked to go early, on the first day, to shop a little and to "Scope Things Out!" Her fellow shoppers would often include one or more of these Wonderful Ladies: Hazel Brisson, Jettie Willoughby,, Polly Garner, Mona Clark, Anna Faye Johnson, Aunt Irene Brisson, Billie Priest Hall, etc., etc. (Apologies to anyone I failed to mention!) Sadly, Mama doesn't call anymore! No more Holly Day Fair, Cross Creek Mall, Steinmart!
Asyndeton proves the passage to be be something fun and enjoyable. “Brisket with bacon….”. This proves to be enjoyable because it's a whole bunch of food listed and most people love eating food or are very happy when they're eating it. “Airplanes, pinwheels…”. This ties into being fun because you could look into airplanes as traveling places, fireworks are just a symbol of fun or celebration. Same goes for everything else, the fair can be enjoyed just as much as everything listed.
