Last year while traveling in Italy I was approached by a lovely lady who immediately started asking questions about the United States. When she found out my home was in Louisiana she got really excited. She had relatives in New Orleans but had never been able to go to visit them. We carried on quite a conversation. Telling her about the hot summers, Cajun food, and cool music made me miss my home.
When you think of the South one thing that must come to mind is the tall, moss covered oak trees still and quiet in the hot and wet summer sun. The weather in Louisiana is steamy! The slow moving days are laced with bright sunlight. It is almost tropical. The lady and I talked about the difference between the glorious light in Italy and that of the southern states. In Tennessee the big oak trees change colors and is a vacation spot in the fall. We then moved our conversation to a small café which, of course, brought up food.
Spicy Italian food has nothing on Cajun or Creole food! We love hot and spicy, from fried chicken to crawfish, boiled in spices and lemons. I descripted, in detail, how to make several well know Southern dishes and she talked pasta. I told her about pasta, the Cajun way. Food is a big part of the Italian and Southern cultures. Food brings families together at the table where it is a big

In the pine belt Country Music is King while Gospel is best loved. Music and the South just go together. Wherever you go in the Southern part of the United States, like Georgia, Kentucky, North and South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, or Mississippi you will hear music on the radio, on the front porch, in restaurants and cafes, and on the street corners. We love a good tune. Italian’s love music too. There in Italy you hear opera and accordion music. Accordion are a big part of Zydeco music. In other words, the Italians and Southerners have lots of things in
There are countless reasons why I have chosen Xavier University of Louisiana. Xavier will guide me to exceed all of my expectations with plenty of effort, focus, and determination. One of my main reasons for coming to Xavier is the wonderful biology pre-med program. I know that Xavier's dedicated faculty has helped many African Americans attain their goals of completing medical school. Whether a professor teaches an essential concept or an academic advisor assists with application processes, Xavier has all of the resources I will need to go to medical school. Going into Xavier, my expectations include becoming an ideal candidate for medical school to become a dermatologist or pediatrician. I plan to meet this expectation through rigorous
It was a beautiful sunny day and my family and I were driving on the expressway. We were in my Dad’s blue truck with the fifth wheel behind us. We had the windows down in the amazing 80 degree weather. We were around our exit, Myrtle Beach! I was so excited for the trip and couldn’t wait to put my foot in the blue, cold, salt water. After the like 15 hour drive we had just suffered through I was expecting a pretty great trip.
Music is an art that has united people all over the world for centuries and centuries. Evolving throughout the years, music is split up into many different genres. These genres have derived from diverse time periods and cultures throughout the years. Jazz and Country music both originated in the early 1900s, but have had lasting impacts on completely different cultures. The detailed elements of each piece are dissimilar, but are equally effective in providing entertainment for each audience.

The unique climate of the South allowed for a prosperous economy of crops. The warm weather and amount of rainfall made it possible to grow bizarre crops, such as rice and tobacco. These crops were prized by the countries in Europe.

Additionally, Blues and Country music seem to be the most compared and the most contrasted. From many perspectives, the two types of music go hand-in-hand with each other. Blues music is mostly originated from the African American culture. Ranging from the Delta of Mississippi and the Port of New Orleans, Blues was very popular in the southern states. Blues was introduced to the people in the early 19th century.
Louisiana has one of the most culturally diverse areas on earth, with respect to “SoLa,” or Southern Louisiana. New Orleans was the birthplace of Jazz, and is full of great culture from people who have developed unique traditions that are special to New Orleans. Not is the culture diverse, the wetlands contain some of the most diverse ecosystems in North America. With 40% of America’s wetlands in SoLa, the area is very unique when compared to many other places in the US. Along with the uniqueness in culture and environment, the practices of the politicians and industries may be unique due to the questionable practices of the politicians and companies. The problems described in the film for Louisiana seem to be quite unique, but after some thought, the problems are almost universal to most of the modern world.
Country music originates in the southern states of America in the early 1900s, however, the many influences of country music came from centuries of European immigrants bringing their musical traditions to the country; these variety of traditions then fused together to create many different styles of popular music, one of which being country and western. Some of the musical traditions came from countries such as Britain, Ireland, Germany, India, Spain, France, Mexico and Africa; British folk culture and Afro-American influences are the strongest in country music, with the African elements also being heard strongly in more sub-genres such as Jazz, blues, rhythm and blues and ragtime. The people of the south shared similar cultural traditions
Folk music was shaped and influenced by segregation during the Great Depression between blacks and whites, which led to divergent forms of African-American folk music in isolated towns where black music could evolve from its African origins. Even before the Great Depression, earlier African American music styles have influenced the folk music of southern Appalachia. The banjo is one of the most important musical instruments playing in Appalachia folk music, and it is a little known fact that this instrument was introduced by African Americans, as well as African work songs and chants to this region.1 This paper will address how segregation between blacks and whites have influenced folk music, if at all, and if racial tensions
Louisiana is a place of beautiful wildlife and landscape. With about forty percent of the state being marshes and wetlands. It is very important for us to preserve these wetlands and keep them from disappearing like they have been for the past fifty years. Almost eighty percent of wetland loss in the nation has happened in Louisiana. Just in the past ten years the state has seen a thirty percent deduction in the wetlands. The bad thing about these wetlands disappearing is that they are just being converted into open water. While other wetlands in other states are being used for many things. The destruction of these wetlands in the coast of Louisiana can be prevented by funding restoration acts and stopping pollution.
The North has beautiful, clear rivers and the coasts are full of bays. Most of the cities in the North are built near the bays. The cities are mainly where all of the trading centers are located. In the South it is mainly warm and sunny during summer. They have mild winters with lots of rain.
In the South, the climate was moist and mild. The winters were very short and the summers very long. The south had great fishing, hunting, and crop land. The communities lived
