In my opinion, the fire the boys made on the mountain, as they were trapped on the island after their plane crash, represents the group’s hopelessness and misery, and it also represents that the group may not be rescued and saved for a long period of time. First, the fire they made did not produce any smoke, and that fact is extremely important in solving the conflict in the story. The reason they were making the fire in the first place was to signal passing ships with the smoke from the fire to alert them about their existence on the deserted island. Additionally, a well-prepared fire can be utilized for a long period of time, and it can be used for things such as cooking meat and keeping warm. However, the fire they made was without smoke,

In 2003, possibly one of the worst wildfires in California’s history occurred. This fire, referred to as the Cedar Fire, spread across 273,246 acres.
On august 29th at 2:30 in the morning a fire broke out by highway 190, east of Springville. The cause of the Pier fire is human caused but is still under investigation; New research shows that humans are the cause of 84% of all wildfires. As of september 18 it has burnt 36,556 acres and is at 95% containment, the estimated containment date is september 20th 12:00 am. And at 10:00am september 18th Tulare County officials lifted all evacuation orders for the Pier Fire, and Highway 190 is now open to traffic. The communities that had mandatory evacuation where Sequoia Crest, Mountain Aire, Rogers Camp, Pierpoint Springs, Cedar Slope, Camp Nelson, Doyle Springs, Alpine Village and Wishon. But the civilians coming back to their homes still have to be aware of the danger still prevalent, such as falling trees and smoke inhalation.
“Rhythmic waves, high dunes, ancient maritime forests, historic landmarks and glimpses of wildlife—Fire Island has been a special place for diverse plants, animals and people for centuries”
Fire lastly shows hope because when the boy is all alone, he encounters other people who are the good guys. Just like the boy, they are “carrying the fire” (p.283). The good guys who are carrying the fire are not cannibals and they offered to take the boy in. It is so imperative to not let the fire die because of what it represents: light, survival and hope. This is the importance of the concept of fire in the novel
Desert Fire, in Redmond, crafts inspired and tasty Tex-Mex cuisine with a contemporary aesthetic in its relaxing and charming eatery. The golden brown corn-crusted calamari served with chipotle remoulade sauce and the mojo de ajo shrimp and mushrooms sautéed in a buttery pepper sauce make delicious and fun-to-share appetizer options. Some of Desert Fire’s house specialty entrées include the fire-grilled chili rubbed house sirloin in a seven-spice blend, the signature tres enchiladas stuffed with tender chicken, a blend of cheeses and green onions and topped with salsa ranch dressing and the sizzling shrimp fajitas with veggies, rice, beans and guacamole, all of which are prepared to perfection.
It is hard to come by and also threatens to hurt them if they don't properly control it. The island is in the middle of the ocean with nothing but forest and animals on it. The boys only have one solid way to make a fire and that is buy using Piggy’s glasses, which were made by and come from civilization. The fire is also symbolic of technology in the fact that it represents mankind's ability to adapt its surroundings to better fit its needs. On page 41 the narrator says, “Life became a race with the fire.”
In the novel, fire was an important part of survival for the boys, “How can we ever be rescued except by luck, if we don't keep a fire going? Is a fire too much for us to make?" (Golding 80). This quote represents hope that the boys will be recused and was a link to civilization. The fire also signified order and leadership because the boy’s goal was to protect the fire from burning out and Ralph was able to give commands to the boys in order be saved.
We must make a fire." (Golding 38). At this point, the signal fire symbolizes the boys’ connection to civilization, and the strength of civilized instinct remains on the island. The boys’ attempts and their willingness to be rescued is what kept them alive in the beginning of the book.
The mountain is the highest point on the island and the boys’ ‘only chance’ of getting rescued with a signal fire for when a ship passed by. Their theory was to make enough smoke with the fire 24/7 so if by chance a ship passes by it may notice the smoke and come rescue them. Ralph is all concerned about the fire and keeping it going, Jack on the other hand tells the boys that ‘this is our island. It’s a good island. Until the grownups come to fetch us we’ll have fun’.
"Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them" (Acts 2:3 NRSV)
The first fire didn’t go as planned, and ended up taking the life of one of the young boys. It was at this point that the fire could be seen as a symbol of death and destruction. In the beginning it was to be considered as a sign of hope that the boys may, perhaps, get rescued and return to society one day. When the fire’s flames rage and release smoke, the boys are able to hold on to the thought of being rescued. As long as the fire continues to burn, it implies that the boys still wish to return to society.
As primitive as the boys became, they were once innocent kids who were lost and just wanted to get home safely. This is expressed through the fire that they built upon arriving at the island. It became a signal to the outside world and as their will to go back to civilization decreases, the fire burns dimly or goes out completely. An example of this is when the Jack insisted his hunters to let the fire out to hunt a pig, “We had to have them in the hunt, or there wouldn’t have been enough for a ring” (70). When this happens it is a sign that many of them no longer care to have a civilized way of living and have given into their own savage instincts.
By keeping the fire going they hope to get the attention of people passing who will rescue them. Because it is linked so closely with the boys return it becomes a connection to civilisation. For example, the quote “The fire is the most important thing on the island. How can we ever be rescued except by luck, if we don't keep a fire going? Is a fire too much for us to make?
Boys whose savage instincts take over cross the island to Jack’s camp, and become a part of his anarchic ‘civilization’. When this happens, there are many less people to keep the fire burning. Since the fire represents an outlet back to harmonic civilization, whenever the fire depletes it is implied that the boys’ civil nature has also
