Abstract The purposeof this project is to design a control strategy for a voltage sourced inverter (VSI) that will facilitate the inversion of DC power source, supplied by Photovoltaic (PV) cells, to an AC power source which can be used either to supply load or to connect directly with utility grid. The system will be controlled to obtain maximum active power and maintain unity power factor for the grid-connected solar system. The hardware part and controller ismodelled and implemented through computer using program called MATLAB Simulink. The system is designed in a way that it does not require any user involvement to operate any stage in between. It will control the whole power system automatically after setting the desired parameters. The benefit of this project is to give access to environment-friendly source of energy. Moreover, it can give option to client to use system in two different modes; the standalone mode which is used to satisfy individuals’ needs, and the grid-connected mode which is used to sell electricity to utility when in excess.
