Are you looking to redo your bedroom with an antique decor? If you are, I would recommend considering a Victorian style bedroom. The first thing you need to think about is the furniture. The Victorians prefer large ornamental wood furniture. The most popular woods for antique bedroom furniture were mahogany and oak. Bedroom furniture was decorated with beautiful carvings that drew from nature for inspiration-leaves and flowers. A tall heavy mahogany dresser and night table will do much to give your room an antique feel. The next important thing to think of is your bed. In most Victorian homes, the bed in the master bedroom was made of very wood and usually had a canopy. If you would like a canopy for you bed, you have a few options. You can buy a new bed, find a carpenter who can build a canopy for your bed, or you can try to make one yourself. While I recommend finding a carpenter to build you a bed canopy, it is possible to build one yourself. You can do something as complicated as taking 4 2x4 's and then connecting the 2x4 's on both ends (top and bottom)with thinner 2x4 's . Once you have the frame built you just need to drape material over the top of the bed. If the idea of working with 2x4 's scary you , you can just try curtain rods. All you need to do is get eight curtain rod holders and screw them into the ceiling. You then take curtain rods and put them on the curtain rod holders. You can then take sheer curtains and hook them up to the curtain rods. An even
In this essay I am aim to explore Pugin’s dissent from tradition through his ideas, inspiration, and his most important works and their meaning. To dissent from tradition is to defy a stultifying tradition or convention, which leads to new, daring styles (Richardson, McKellar, Woods, 2008, p.109). The ‘traditional’ architectural style in the early 19th Century, in Great Britain was classicism, inspired by ancient Greece and associated with democracy as well as with the French revolution (Richardson, McKellar, Woods, 2008, p. 112). Pugin, called this classical style ‘the new square style’ (Figure 4.7, in Richardson, McKellar, Woods, 2008, p.123) and argued that it lacked authenticity of Great Britain (Richardson, McKellar, Woods, 2008, p.
The amount of natural light that enters into space. All of these will play a major role in getting the overall scheme to work. If you don’t have a large room and the ceilings are standard height, but you do have ample natural light streaming in, you may want to consider painting just one wall boldly. A feature wall works very well in a limited space and still allows for that funky, fresh splash of colour. If you have very high ceilings and want a colour burst, adding a bright colour to a ceiling can also bring an immediate new look to a room. Just Decorated main bedroomremember that if you try this on standard ceilings, it will make the room seem smaller. Just as you need to be careful when painting large surfaces, so too should you act with caution when looking at brightly coloured furniture. A bright-red sofa will immediately bring character into a room, but you could easily tire of the colour and a replacement fabric will be a costly exercise. The better bet is to select an occasional chair or ottoman for bold and courageous treatment with accessories. Accessories are generally the best route to go to add bright colour to space, due to the fact that they can be changed seasonally for a completely different look and feel.
This makes decorating your bedroom on a budget much easier because you will know what types of accessories you will need to purchase, rather than buying several items that you like, but don't match. Once you have picked a theme, remove everything from the bedroom that doesn't match that theme. Decorating Your Bedroom on a Budget Tip #2: Visit Flea Markets With your new theme in mind, visit a flea market. A flea market is a wonderful place to find accessories and sometimes even furniture. Depending on the type of flea market you go to, there may be sellers who focus on one type of item or there may be sellers who have several different items. Be sure to look closely so that you don't miss any treasures that would work perfectly with your budget. Decorating Your Bedroom on a Budget Tip #3: Rearrange Furniture Just rearranging your furniture will make the room look new again. Decorating couldn't be any easier or more budget friendly than when you use this tip. Another trick is to pull pieces from other rooms. Why save all the nice things for your living room? Decorating Your Bedroom on a Budget Tip #4: Decorative Shelving I love this decorating tip. At stores like the Family Dollar, you can find decorative shelves for $5 to $10, which are perfect for displaying pictures and candles. This is not only friendly on your budget, but it keeps the room
The painting depicts the murder of Jean-Paul Marat that occurred while he was in his bathtub. When I initially looked at this painting, I noticed the dying body and the letter in his hand. At first when I looked at this painting, I thought the letter in Marat's hand was a suicide note. It just seemed odd to me that he was holding a letter in his hand if it had not been a suicide. However, the letter in Marat's hand was sent from his murderer Charlotte Corday-in fact you can see her name written on the paper if you look closely enough, but she is not painted in this piece which I also found interesting.
When boys and girls in a family exceed the number of available bedrooms, it becomes necessary to look for creative ways to divide a shared space. This is especially challenging with a boy and girl must share the same bedroom, but it can be done with a few clever decorating tips and tricks. Consider the following creative ways to divide a shared bedroom for kids, and give the kids sharing a room their very own area to sleep, play, and dress in their own private space. Begin with Paint When searching for creative ways to divide and decorate a shared bedroom for kids, begin by making a dramatic statement with color. To define and divide the shared space, apply two colors to divide the bedroom in half. For example, if a girl and a boy must share a bedroom, paint half of the room a cool shade of blue. Paint the other half of the shared bedroom a soft shade of lilac. This works well if the colors share the same intensity. Use a measuring tape and a level to determine each half of the shared bedroom, and divide it with painter 's tape for a neat and clean edge. The shared room will have a unique and impressive look that will give each child a space to call their own. Visually Divide a Shared Room with Window Treatments When a window is in the center of a shared wall painted two different colors, maintain the look by using two different colors of the same style of window treatments. Buy two sets of the same curtains and valances in colors that will coordinate well with the two
Interesting ideas begin with adorning the bed with some decorative pads. A basic example is, placing pads that are covered with a patterned fabric. To give it a natural look, most pads use a floral fabric for porch beds. Making them purely natural and more divine are pad fabrics available in leaves motifs design.
The first three mornings of the week, my roommate asked me to do a few different things. The first day the task was pretty simple. We are both Math majors, and he asked if he could have my notes for the day because he would be going to Walter Reed for a follow up on his surgery. The second day, he asked me to take his watch because he is not able to stand for prolonged periods of time, and the third day he did not request anything. The tasks that he asked of me were very easy, and I did not have a problem doing them for him. This is partly because he did the same for me last year when I had my knee surgery, but I know he would do anything I asked him to do regardless of what it was. From this, I learned the importance of having a good roommate. I think it is important to have someone that you can live with that you are able to be relaxed with after a stressful day (it also helps having a roommate of the same major so you can share notes). I did not find it hard putting my roommate’s need above my own.
The photograph, Two Beds, Two Windows taken by Jack Leigh is a silver gelatin print from 1981. In this era of color photography, a photograph like this with black, white and grey hues is a novelty, especially for the younger generation. On first glance, the exhibit appears to be a simple photograph of a cabin with two beds and two windows giving a view of a coastline and an ocean in the distance. Even then it does manage to strike a chord and one can identify with 'The Conflict Within ' the human mind. It is a perfect metaphorical representation of the two sides of the human mind.

Showcase your friends and family with framed photographs. You may have most of your pictures on an electronic device these days, but real photographs in matching frames turn an otherwise ordinary wall into an extraordinary representation of your life and family history. Look for antique frames, oddly-shaped metal frames or simply buy plain wooden frames for a dozen or more pictures and arrange them up a stairwell or behind a sectional sofa. They'll draw people as they complement the room, inspiring conversation.
The Victorian style of houses dates back to the reign of Queen Victoria. This luxurious style comes in copious different varieties, but is all tied together with minuscule detail work. The Victorian era spurred a worldwide want to decorate houses with decorative trimming and beautiful colors to make them more ornamental. Pastel reds, blues, and greens were common in these houses, making them appear bright. They also had exquisite designs around the windows, spindles that twisted in bizarre shapes, and all kinds of different sized windows. These houses and styles were incredibly common as well as a result of mass-production, making the materials cheaper for production and shipping. Inventions such as the steam engine and railroads made shipping these materials much easier than ever before. This led to even more ornamental designs around gables, porches, and windows. Even porch fencing and posts were decorated with scroll-sawn spindles and cornice. These minuscule details that could be closely compared to the ever so popular lace of that time were integral to the Victorian house for the reason that it took empty areas and dressed them up. These grand and elegant victorian houses had complex looking exteriors and that’s likely to be by cause of the maze-like layout that creates odd shapes, the elaborate trimming, and the materials and colors used.
The place where I feel the most comfortable, and show my personality, is my bedroom. This is the place where I can really be myself and do what I want; it’s the place I come home to, and wake up every day. My room makes me feel comfortable because it is my own space. My house is always crazy, with my dog barking, and my siblings running around making noise, my room is the only place in the house where I can come and relax without caring about everything else, the only place that I can go to clear my mind.
My house is quite large. It has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen, two living rooms, a dining room, a special games room and a big front and back garden.
