Designing a facility and the departments contained within it is a daunting task in the beginning. Research and planning are key steps that must be well thought out and executed for the most return on the space. Space is a high premium for hospital organizations that are looking to expand their impact on the community they serve. Stakeholder buy in is vital for successful project performance. Stakeholders can have minimal impact on the project or a large impact. Key stakeholders in the DNP project that may affect outcomes are physicians, bedside nurses, discharge and outcomes managers, hospital leadership, insurance companies and last but not least patients and their families. In this project, the stakeholders that have a key role will be the core hospital staff that consists of nurses, physicians and the discharge and outcomes managers. Leadership has already pledged support of processes that provide opportunities to improve patient care. Patients and families may affect the project with their willingness to participate in a new process and provide satisfaction feedback.

For all of this to happen it will require for the corporate stakeholders and financial department to agree to the budget, and remodeling project. In addition to the facility staff and patients to handle the remodeling around the increase care that will be needed to maintain the patients’ safety

I am a registered architect and project manager with 18 years experience, and have been focused on healthcare projects for last 16 years. I have been involved in acute care general hospitals, outpatient surgery center and medical office building projects of various sizes. I have been responsible for delivering projects from planning to construction and close-out using various project delivery methods including Design Build and Integrated Project Delivery.

The Design & Development discipline will assist its clients with major renovations to existing health care buildings or the design and construction of new facilities. In this capacity it will serve as the Owner’s representative in either the management of design and/or construction of the project and lead the team to ensure the owner’s needs are met via the construction of the new facilitiy. In this role it will leverage leading practices in the areas of Building Information Modeling and Sustainable Design to create a compelling lasting space that instill a level of comfort in its customers’ patients and family members.
