Detecting Autism Early Summary
The author Kraft, Ulrich talks about if autism can be detected early on it can be treated opportunity when the brain is going underwire during development time. The article talks about how important it is to start early diagnosis when the brain is still “strengthening and pruning neural networks”.
If it’s not detected The main characteristics children with autism will display poor eye contact, communication, and social interaction. Kraft also, speaks about a study done by Amaral that will be ongoing that will analyze the children’s blood proteins, immune systems ,brain structures and functions, genetics and environmental exposures on children who are autism and children who are developing normally between the age of 2

I agree with the author Kraft, Ulrich that detecting early autism is the key to early treatment. If we can detect autism in children even 6 months old and get the right treatment for children when the right and left region are wiring we can make a great process as the child gets older. It’s important to start early intervention to improve the opportunity for children to learn from early intervention that helps them with communication, social behavior, and repetitive interest behavior. A lot of the times children are taught every skills, that takes them months to years to learn one skill. It is highly important they get the early treatment that can help them in everyday life. I also found “The Autism Phenome Project” study to be interesting and can’t wait to read more about the results. As we already know what causes autism is genetics, and this study will help us learn more what is in the environment that is triggering autism. It’s important to learn about autism and have all different kinds of studies because now there are children 1 in 66 that are developing this diagnosis and every child is very
Whether a diagnosis of autism, or diagnosis of another disability is to be made, interventions can be developed to add the child 's “tool belt” on their waist of life. Research shows that the early intervention can highly impact the likelihood of success (Krader, 2014). The American Academy of pediatric tells us that the diagnosis procedure should start in children between 18 and 24 months. With the essential screening process, recommendations can be used to begin intervention and start the help that the child needs. As we have seen through research, not all children receive testing that proves equality (Krader, 2014).

During their checkup at 9 months old doctors will begin monitoring for developmental delays that may be observable. In order to medically diagnosis, tests for vision, hearing, neurological, and genetic mutations are performed to centralize the possible cause. Some observable symptoms associated with Autism Spectrum Disorder include children avoiding eye contact and not directly looking at objects. Many have repetitive tendencies consisting of either actions or words. Autism Spectrum Disorder patients will not develop adaptations including social skills or the ability to acclimate to change. Although components of Autism Spectrum Disorder are still being discovered researchers still have a vast amount of knowledge already to build from
According to Kids Health (2014), “children with Autism have difference in the way their brains develop and process information”. For example, “language delay, trouble communicating with their brains, perform certain unusual or repetitive behaviors, or have difficulties learning in school” (p. 1).
There is a wide variety of neurodevelopmental disorders, most of which show very similar symptoms and signs. Therefore, it is nearly impossible to differentiate between them without the help of a professional. A lot of neurodevelopmental disorders, which mostly affect children, do not have a test that clearly tells us what a patient is suffering from. Thus, doctors had to come up with different mechanisms to diagnose patients with such conditions. The diagnosis process begins with the suspicion of the doctor about which of these disorders does a patient have. After that, the doctor conducts a series of procedures to determine whether or not a patient actually has this disorder. One of these difficult-to-diagnose conditions is Autism. The mechanism of diagnosing Autism involves a behavior assessment, a physical exam, and some clinical tests.
Autism disorder impacts the nervous system. The range and severity of symptoms can vary extensively. The common symptoms include difficulty with communication, difficulty with social interactions and obsessive behaviors. Early acknowledgment of Autism, as well as behavioral, educational, and family therapy may reduce symptoms and support development and
According to the CDC, autism is “a developmental disability that can cause significant social, communication and behavioral challenges (Facts About Autism, 2016)”. Autism was first discussed in 1943 by Dr. Leo Kanner, after he observed 11 children who had fixations on the inanimate environment rather than people (Quick Facts About Autism). It affects about one percent of the population, and is
Testing has been administered before the knowledge of autism in the patient and throughout the knowledge of its existence as well. Testing has also been administered to control the chemical aspects of autism in patients of all ages. Therapists have gone so far as to believe that a hands off
Autism is a disorder in brain progress that comes to be obvious in earliest youth.
Autism has been considered the disease of the 21st century for its high rate of incidence in our infantile population. However, many people wonder if it is really a new disease or an old undisclosed illness misjudged until present by health.
There are many different types of exceptionalities that can effect children, this paper will specifically look at the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). ASD is a disorder caused by a delay in neurodevelopment that effects the part of the brain responsible for social functioning, motor skill functioning and communication (“Geneva Centre”, n.d.). Autism Spectrum Disorder according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC, 2014), about 1 in 68 children have been classified as being on the autism spectrum in 2010. In comparison, to the prevalence rate in 2000 which was 1 in 150 children. Thus, indicating that the prevalence has grown in the span of 10 years and this is a disorder that is relatively high affecting many children today.
One the biggest psychological disorders in our society is childhood autism. Childhood autism is defined as “A pervasive developmental disorder defined by the presence of abnormal and/or impaired development that is manifest before the age of 3 years, and by the characteristic type of abnormal functioning in all three areas of social interaction, communication, and restricted, repetitive behaviour.” (MHresource.org). Furthermore, boys are three to four more times likely to develop childhood autism than girls (MHresources.org). Statistics also show that the prevalence of childhood autism in births is one in fifty-nine and has grown 119.4 percent from 2000 to 2010 (CDC). Now, researchers are looking into what causes childhood autism. They are
What does it mean to have a sibling that has autism? Let alone an older brother? This was the question that I spent a large portion of my life trying to answer and reconcile. Being the youngest child in the family, I realized at an exceptionally young age that autism spectrum disorder (ASD) was something that made my family unique. Every case of ASD differs person to person, therefore it is appropriate to say that it is a spectrum that varies in severity on a case by case basis. Though all variants of ASD are associated with difficulty communicating and interacting with others, repetitive behaviors, and limited interests and/or activities. My oldest brother, John, was diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome at an early age as he did not start talking
Autism is on the rise. Many researchers feel the reasons isn’t because there are more kids being afflicted with it, but the increased public awareness has allowed this disorder to be more easily recognized and diagnosed at a earlier age.
Tens of millions of people have been diagnosed with Autism worldwide, effecting both genders, all races, ethnicities and people from all socioeconomic classes. In 2010 a Surveillance Summary was conducted in the United States, where it identified that one in 68 children are diagnosed with Autism (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2014). It has been recognised
