Determination And Honesty Of John D. Rockefeller

Determination comes from the people around you, which power you up to get through the situation you’re in. Andy’s determination comes from his belief about him being convicted for murder, but after all he found out who it was, even if he didn’t find out he was determined to escape because he knew he was right. At the end of it, all you have is hope and determination.

From the years 1870-1937 John D. Rockefeller was a Captain of Industry and truly was an example of the idyllic American dream. He by his success as a Captain of Industry also set a precedent from then on about the way that other Captains of Industries made their wealth and ran their companies as well. Furthermore, John D. Rockefeller was a Captain of Industry because he built the Standard Oil Company and was a very generous philanthropist. John D. Rockefeller did generate lots of revenue and create many jobs in the United States but it also can be said that he took advantage of the less fortunate by paying them less and buying out competing businesses.

The first thing i want to ask you is what is determination? The dictionary's definition is: the act of coming to a decision or of fixing or settling a purpose. Now if i were to re-phrase it into my own words i would say determination was going after something you truly wanted, no matter the consequences or obstacles it would take to get there. Determination is a word i would use to describe Diana Nyad, she became the first person confirmed to swim from Cuba to Florida without the aid of a shark cage at the age of 64! The first time i had ever heard about Diana was in October of 2016, when i was in Indianapollis, Indiana for an FFA National Convention.She was one of the guest speakers for the night, and she truely inspired me to be determined

Dedication is key. No matter how hard it is to journey through something, dedication is what gets one through in the end. Even though things may get rocky and rough, the effort one puts in can turn the situation around completely. Dedication boosts one’s confidence in themselves. It helps one believe that if they can make it through what seems to be the worst of things, they can make it through to the end of anything.

In the industrial age, there were these people called the "titans." John D. Rockefeller was considered one of the "titans." Rockefeller wanted to be the richest man in America, however, he was the first billionaire in America (Independence Hall Association, 2015). He was born in Richford, New York in 1839. Rockefeller was the second child and he had five other siblings which were William Rockefeller, Frank Rockefeller, Lucy Rockefeller Briggs, Francis Rockefeller, and Mary Ann Rockefeller (Famous people,2015). He married Laura Celestia Spelman and they had five children. His father, William Avery Rockefeller, was a doctor that thought he could cure cancers. His mother was Eliza Davidson Rockefeller and she was a very religious woman. She taught John how to save and give to charities. He worked for his neighbors and raised turkeys for his mother. By the time he was twelve years old, he had saved $50 dollars, which back then was a lot. The family moved to Owego, New York in 1851 and in 1852 John attended Owego Academy. He was an average student in all other subjects besides Mental Arithmetic. He could solve these problems in his head when most people couldn 't solve them on paper (WGBH Education Foundation, 2015).

I feel as if I am determined I am also about what I mean and what I say. When I ask others am i determined they think so because I put my all in what I do. When you are determined you let nothing come in the way. Considering I want to be successful “I have to pay the price to be the boss.”

Let us think back to when we were young boys and girls. We get reminded of the desire to grow up and become someone important. Growing up we always had that special person who was always there for us, supporting us in everything we did. Little girls had big dreams of being super stars and being on television for everyone to see us. Little boys also had dreams of becoming doctors or engineers. Many people dream of doing something important for the rest of their life, but unfortunately not many are able to achieve their goal. There is always exceptions to this, and there was one person who achieved her goal, not caring what people said.

It was in Germany for World War 2, there was a girl named Hitler that was in charge.Ben was fighting in the war and he had to keep his family safe as the well. The Jews were treated badly by all the other people that were fighting. A lot of people got killed if they did something wrong or not what they said to do. If they did anything wrong they could die or get killed. Ben was trying to keep his family safe and everyone else that he could.

Self-determination is the process by which a person controls their own life. Being determined is having a firm decision and being resolved not to change it. Malcom X, Jimmy Santiago Baca, and Amy Tan were self-determined. They did not like the direction of their life, and decided that they wanted a change. Being determined in ones’ self after life has thrown you lemons is hard to reverse.

Once the high school level was entered (9-12 Grades), both leadership skill and athletic skills began to manifest itself. Determination was a word that was used quite often to navigate me through high school. Unknowingly to me, this word (determination) would become a source of strength for the events and trails encounter

Even though it did not end with the results he would have wished for, he still tried and would not give up until it was impossible to assist anymore. This is fundamental to Benjamin’s character since he is supposed to an elderly, cranky, ornery donkey, yet has a soft spot for Boxer and made every effort to save him. An example how I am stubborn is when I get infuriated at someone, I am determined to prove them wrong. For instance, when I was younger, a person said to me “I bet you cannot get better than me on this test”.

One of the most influential men in shaping America, one of the most brilliant men to walk this Earth, one of the most resilient and cut-throat entrepreneurs of time is John D. Rockefeller. There are a few things that make this man have a few of these qualities. The biggest and most important reasons is he is one of the very few men who literally made America and its reality what it is today. There are lots of men who made big moves to push America in this direction, but Rockefeller’s actions were so big that it made him the richest man in America. Well what did Rockefeller do that was so iconic? He discovered oil. Not only did he discover the biggest oil source in the world, the Standard Oil Company, but he also used his wealth to fund other philanthropic causes.

Winston Churchill once said that “Success consists of going failure to failures without loss of enthusiasm”. Winston’s statement can be viewed as controversial because some people believe no matter how hard ones tries one may fail. This point has merit because no matter how hard one tries to defy gravity it will constantly be there. Except for these extreme cases success has been seen through history as defeating what one had failed to do before. Being able to succeed is caused by not losing enthusiasm between failures because without an enthusiasm to keep trying one will not want to succeed, failure can create the idea that allows one to succeed, and without failure people would not have the passion succeed no matter what.

Determination, with it, one can have whatever they desire. Determination has put people on the moon, turned the poor to rich, f’s to a’s, it has put men on the moon. When mastered this tool decimates any opponent you may face. Like a heated blade, slicing through warm butter. It’s easy, all you have to do is trust in yourself and you will find that determination will allow you to accomplish some of the most tedious tasks ever.

Determination is simply not giving up. No matter how hard things get, or how badly you want to just give up, you keep on going. Sometimes you just want to let go, when it seems like what you’re going for is just out of reach, sometimes you tell yourself if what you’re trying to get is worth the great amount of effort that you put in it. When things get hard, you start thinking that its not worth it, and you just want to let it go, but let me tell you this, the more pain and suffering you put into something, the better it'll feel when you get it.
