The article contains offenders committing crimes based off where they come from. For example, poverty is one of the main causes of why 70% of offenders commit crimes. Other causes of why offenders commit crimes are peer pressure, and lack of knowledge. Many people doesn’t have any what to do with their lives. It could be the cause of many things, such as; someone shutting them down mentally or physically. Lack of confidence gives the offenders no hope of making it out. So they commit crimes to make it out. Most people grew up of not having the same lifestyle as a rich person. I personally think it makes them jealous, so the offenders take it away from others. Half of the policies that had been discussed came out to be successful. Poverty has been a huge reason why so many offenders committed crime. By using deterrence, it prevents other people from committing the same crime. In the late 1980’s was a large amount of crack dealing. In order to protect their sets or themselves from other dealers were to have weapons (Blumstein, Rivera 2000). The leading theorist of the article is James Q. Wilson. Most of the things that influenced offenders are poverty, lack of education, and peer pressure (Hemmens, Craig & Tibbetts, Stephen, 2009). The scientific method of the article performed an interview with police officers elaborating about probations tactics. The experiment was recorded for documentation. The independent variable are the participants; which are the officers and the dependent variable is the survey.
