In the beginning there was emptiness called Chaos, as well as Earth, Hell, and Love named Eros. Eros was half girl half boy and created the earth named Gaia. Gaia, out of her own fertility, created a male companion named Ouranos, sky (Stone 39). Ouranos and Gaia would begin to create all other creatures of the universe including the massive Titans. Some of their offspring were giant rats and lizards, some only had one eye in the center of their forehead, and others had fifty heads and one hundred arms. Ouranos was disgusted by these deformed creatures and hid them away deep within the earth. Gaia did not agree with this decision and vowed to get revenge upon him. She turned to the Titans for help and promised if one of them would use an adamant sickle against their father they would assume his role as the master of the universe and king of the Titans. Kronos, the largest of the Titans, stepped forward. That same night Kronos snuck up behind his father and cut off his genitals. Kronos raised the genitals in victory spraying blood everywhere. Some of the blood hit Gaia and seeped into her womb (Stone 40). Other drops dripped into Tartarus, the deepest part of the underworld, and created the Furies. Finally, drops would become the Giants of the Earth which would be impervious to death, even by the hands of a god. Although Kronos was now king of the Titans he was told by his mother and father that he would be
The Contributions of the Iroquois The Native American Indian tribe called the Iroquois contributed greatly toward America. They have many stories about the world, and how things came to be the way they are. They have one story about the creation of the world. They use oral traditional elements in this
Chinese creation myth In the beginning, the universe was a black egg where heaven and earth were mixed together, and in this egg was contained Pangu. He felt suffocated, so he cracked the egg with a broadax, and the light, clear part of the egg floated up to form Heaven while the cold, heavy part stayed down and formed Earth. Pangu stood in the middle, and he and the egg's two parts grew and grew until he was nine million li in height.
In Genesis God created the earth in six days and declared rest for the seventh day. On day one, God created light to part it from darkness, calling the light “day” and the darkness “night”. On day two, he created the sky, allowing him to create land and sea on day three. God created the sun, moon, and the stars to give light to the earth and to govern and separate the day and the night" on the fourth diurnal (Fairchild, 2013). These elements would also serve to establish days, season, and years. On the fifth day God created all the organisms on the land, sea, and sky and made sure they would flourish.
In the beginning when darkness ruled the universe hideous daemons reined the planet for several millennia till the light caused the daemons to vanish, which lead to believe they were destroyed.
There has been many models of the universe over time. During this paper, I will describe four of the models, along with evidence and observations that supported them. One of the four models is the flat earth model. This model is portrayed as a flat surface enclosed in a dome, where the sun, moon, and stars move across the dome. The sky appears as merely a curtain to conceal the heavens. Some observations that support this model are the fact that the earth does indeed appear flat when a person looks at it, and the Sun and Moon arc across the sky. The flat earth model was created in the 12th century during Europe’s “Dark ages,” and was heavily influenced by the bible and Catholic church. The bible speaks of the “dome of the heavens” and the “corners
In the beginning there was nothing except for the sun and giant Australian shepherds who ruled the land. These Australian shepherds lived in a palace, high above where the earth would once form, close to the sun. When new Australian shepherds were born they would often have parties to celebrate the new puppies. One day the emperor of the dogs and his wife had some new puppies, and the dogs threw the biggest party that the palace had ever seen, they were having so much fun that party shook the whole palace, and even the sun. Everything began to rumble and shake. So a part of the sun fell out of the sky hurdling and landing on Earth. This making a huge explosion. When this happened it created the rivers, mountains, rocks, and trees. The party
According to Greek mythology, the world began as a lonely place with only a god by the name of Chaos. Out of the emptiness came along Erebus. Erebus alongside with Night came from a darker much lonelier and quiet place. Order only began to take place when Love was born and with Love came light which is Gaea, also known as Earth.
Earth was created thousands upon thousands of years ago and according to these religions, by a powerful being or beings. When these individuals created their worlds, the reasons were all varied. God, from the Bible, created the Earth out of the loneliness he was in beforehand. In West Africa's account the Olorun help create Earth with tree roots. These beings created Earth because they wanted to do something with the water abyss that lay below them. Amun, the Egyptian god of creation, was said to have created the land, which was known as Ben-ben and created other gods. Amun created the globe out of his obligation to create due to his nature as the creation god. The Cherokee believed that the Earth was created because of the animals wanting of rest. A water beetle carried the mud that was at the bottom of the watery void, and stacked it until it became the landmass that all creatures inhabit. With these creation stories beginnings, they share common thoughts. These ancient Tales have common threads that run between
In the beginning there was only the void deep and endless the only solace a small glass egg. The egg at once began to hatch and from it sprung the universe. Time, space, Star and Planet alike were born.
Every culture in the world has their own beliefs on how modern Earth was created. They all include the same main idea, that some great force in the sky created the land, water, creatures, plants, the sun, moon and all the stars. They also believe that there is a heaven that was created to separate the living from the dead. For instance, the Iroquois believed in two separate worlds; one was dark and a ‘monster’ ruled over it, which could symbolize satan and the underworld. Mankind lived in the upper world though and a lady conceived and gave birth to two twins, one was evil while the other was good. The good mind created everything good in the world, including the sun, moon, stars, creeks, rivers, and many species of animals and fish, and a
In the beginning, (according to Chinese Mythology) the heavens and earth were one. The universe was a big black egg and after 18,000 years it split. The light part floated up and became the heaven and the turbid matter became the earth. In heaven King Guo Xin (King in charge of Earth) hated King Fang. He announced that whoever cut off and brought him the head of King Fang could marry his daughter, the princess. King Guo Xin’s dog, Pan Gu, heard of the news and cut off the head of King Fang then, he brought it to King Guo Xin. King Guo Xin ordered that Pan Gu got some fresh meat, but he didn’t eat it. He only slept for three days. King Guo Xin was confused and asked Pan Gu if he was doing this because he wanted to marry the princess. Pan Gu
Matter or light did not exist in the beginning. Only Death, whose name is Sa, and his wife and only daughter existed. Due to needing a place for his family to live, Sa created a giant sea of mud. A few years later a god named Alatangana came to visit and was disgusted by the filth in which Sa and his family lived. Alatangana turned the mud into solid earth, and made the plants
When Earth began there was just one thing, water. The people lived in the sky. You would think you would never run out of space, but guess what, you do. It started to become crowded with all of the animals and the Cherokee tribe therefore, they became curious about what was beneath the water. One day Dayuni’si, the water beetle, volunteered to go and check it out. He went everywhere across the exterior but couldn’t find solid ground. So he then he dove below the surface and only found mud. This began to enlarge in size and spread outwards to it became Earth as we know it. Myth has it that after all of this, an animal connected the new land to the sky with 4 strings. When Earth formed it was saturated and mushy, so the tribe decided that a bird
In the book of the Greek Mythology, in the beginning of universe, there was only Chaos. Chaos was the dark and roiling stuff. Then, Chaos did breach, and from that cosmic gate came first Tartarus. Afterwards, Erebus, Gaea and Eros were born. As a consequence, from the on, the universe began.
