Molly: I am glad you enjoyed reading my post and thank you for responding to it. Discussion responses are so valuable to our learning process. So many things can be thought of being one way, yet your classmate might see it in a total different light. I believe this is in part due to our own form of individualism. Which is derived from our culture, the society we live in, and our own personal thoughts about different subjects. I truly believe as future Healthcare Administrators we need to always keep an open mind, even in the scenario where we may be totally correct in our thinking, there still may be something else that can be added to your thoughts from the thoughts of others. Just because something has been done one way for years,
I am a Health Services Administration major. It has been a long time goal of mine to enter the healthcare field, but more so in the administrative field of healthcare. I have miniscule work experience in the healthcare field; I have worked previously as a customer service representative scheduling transportation reservations for patient medical appointments. As of now, I am working as an appointment scheduler for nurse practitioners to make in-home visits.
Now days I believe it is essential for people to have good computer skills and knowledge. Including all computer software’s like Word, Excel and Power Point. I am mainly interested in working as a medical office administrator. Office administrators are responsible for all information management and organizing medical records. Excel can be used to keep track of medications, prescriptions, payments and many other health information. Because of this I believe anyone seeking a career in medical office administration should really take excel as part of their curriculum.
The position that I am interested in applying for, is being a health information officer in a dental board setting in Melbourne, Victoria. Certain skills and knowledge that are required to successfully gain this position include: experience in resolving and managing customer enquiries and problems, being meticulous, having effective time management skills and a flexible attitude , being proficient in a variety of programs such as Microsoft Word, and having a high level of accuracy with data entry and word processing. (Seek, 2017) The requirements that are listed above, will allow me to operate and assist the dental health care
Jostling about in the hot, noisy Tuk Tuk, with every rut in the road, I wondered why I had signed up for this. Medical mission trips are organized to help people who lack access to medical care, but, honestly, for all the complications, I think these trips benefited me more by helping me know myself better. Growing up, people labeled me as shy and quiet and maybe I was, but it was only because I never really quite fit in with my peers. The first time I felt that I belonged and had a purpose was on my first mission trip to Peru. It felt good helping all those wide-eyed, hopeful children and to finally be surrounded by people who were just like me – we worked as a team with a common goal to help those communities desperately needing healthcare. I discovered a joy in helping others I still feel today, which has inspired me to pursue a career as a Physician’s Assistant (PA).
Using the SMART method, my long term goal is to continue my work as a CNA while applying for healthcare administrator positions. I would like to work as an administrator for at least 3 years for any medical setting. While working, I will be looking into ways on how I can own and operate a home healthcare agency. According to Marak, (2017), I really don’t need to have experience in the medical industry; I would just need to have the passion for providing care, the marketing savvy, an understanding of business knowledge, and integrity. With my CNA experience, along with my other work experiences, I am half way there.
A personal change I experienced that was very challenging emotionally and psychologically was a career change from legal practice to healthcare administration. The decision for a career change happened in 2007 after a near death experience in Cameroon, my home country, during a short vacation. During my vacation, a health scare got me to a local area hospital that had only one attending physician and 20 nurses to take care of approximately 200 patients. The physician happened to be the chief administrator of the hospital and juggled both responsibilities simultaneously. Due to mass shortage in healthcare professionals from my observation and country reports (Amani, 2010) there is

Healthcare has many different areas one can go into if interested in this field. I have chosen two that have always been an interest to me; Nursing (particularly registered nursing) and an EMT (Emergency Medical Technician). Both jobs are very demanding and extremely important. Both are respected jobs and require a tremendous amount of caring for others.
As a health care administrator there are many challenges that have to be faced. Health care administrators have to deal with a very demanding career with all things health care on a constant change. The changing of health care with new developments is what causes health care administrators to have such a tough job. They have to make sure that they stay up to date on the changes happening. The main two challenges that I think will be faced is communication to employees and staying up to date with trending health care issues.
This will ensure that the time and money invested in training and management development is linked to the mission or core business of the organization (Watad & Ospina,
My career goals for the next five to ten years will consist me becoming a director of hospital department, so envision my future to always moving up the chain of business. Like most business, they have the people at the bottom like a representative for the company, which I am now a patient access representative. I have someone like a supervisor or a lead person over me that make sure me and the other representative’s are doing our job. Then we have a manager that is over the supervisor and us the representative’s. The director is over the supervisors, representative’s and managers. Also A director can be over multiple managers in different departments. Furthermore, in the health-care environment it is like that for director in the hospital.
