All children and young people develop at different rates, but the order which they advance in differs very little. Children’s development tends to progress from head to toe, inner to outer, from simple to complex and from general to specific.
On top of the expected pattern of children and young people’s development including “physical, communication & intellectual & social, emotional & behavioural development there are also “personal and external” factors which will affect how they develop.

While every child is different, developmental milestones, both physical and behavior, refers to what a child should be able to do at a certain age in life. As the child continues to grow and mature in life, conquering these milestones will and determine if the child should have a disability.
It is imperative for a mother to take care of herself while pregnant. This will give the fetus a better chance at healthy developmental milestones. One way to achieve this is through a healthy diet which aids fetal brain development. Moreover, taking the supplemental vitamins recommended by the physician helps too. Finally, a mother should try to eliminate too much stress in her life while pregnant. This can have a negative impact on the pregnancy. This is what healthy development looks like during conception. At 3 months the baby is fully formed. The hands, arms, feet and toes are all present. Also, the bodily organs are present but need to mature more at this point. During the 3-6 month period is where the most rapid brain development takes place (Hutchison, 2013). This is the trimester where you begin to feel movement. At 6-9 months the baby continues to grow and mature to prepare for entry into the world.
The early childhood years from 2 to 6 years old are a time of continued growth and development. Individual differences in growth are becoming more obvious as children are starting to discover who they are. There are many developmental milestones that children will reach within these four years, all at their own pace, ability and time. We will take a closer look into some of the milestones that preschool age children reach within the four developmental domains: physical, cognitive, language, social and emotional.
Video of a mother and her daughter engaged in playtime. I will actively be engaged with mom in order to assist in her recognizing the developmental milestones of child development in her child. Child development milestones will be demonstrated for 12-18 month old child. I think that this is a good idea—your artifact is required to demonstrate your knowledge and skill across the competency –will you include additional information related to things like autism and speech as noted below?
This video explains many developmental milestones this child is either in or has passed. The first milestone that is still developing is theory of mind. He keeps asking why can’t he keep the fish to his father and sister, yet he does not comprehend their answers since they do not think like he does. He has not developed understanding of other people’s thoughts, as well as logic that the fish WILL get stinky. Theory of mind is usually (better) developed by four years old. Also, with social development the child is communicating his desires to keep the fish and is trying to order/tell his dad that he is going to keep the fish. A child should develop these two milestones by 27 months. The child is also throwing a tantrum because his needs are
Paget represents cognitive developmental milestones of physical or behavior skills. It can be seen from infant throughout childhood. He understood that this cognitive development occurred through a fixed process. He believed that children construct an understanding of the world around them by experiencing. He sensed that children learned through sensory-motor between the ages of 0-2 years of age. Children learned about object solidity, in which a person or object still exists around them. He also believed that children discover from their own environment, by making mistakes and learning from them. He also called this as their preoperational development through the ages of 2-7 years of age; they learned to see their world as it revolve around
The critical developmental stages of children can be categorized into too many stages. They mark major junctures of the child’s development regarding the baby’s maturity. The children developmental stages range according to age. At this juncture, they have to acquire consultation from some physician or child specialist who can give them the solution accordingly. They do not want to falter or create risk for the child regarding health. These tender stages need guidance and proper tutoring when it comes to cognitive development. One needs to provide them the best solutions to the problems of the child which is a part of
As we grow older we change; these changes are most visible during infancy and childhood. From birth, babies grow larger and show noticeable development in both their social and intellectual competence. The study of age-related changes in human behaviour is referred to as developmental psychology. Child development refers to the psychological and biological changes that occur in individuals from birth to adolescence. By understanding child development, psychologists know what to expect in infants and children at each developmental stage, and can therefore establish the limitations in infant’s and children’s growth
The specific developmental areas a growing child needs to develop is social, physical, interactive, cognitive and emotional (SPICE). Social includes interactions with close family and friends as well as teachers, other children and community members. Children do this by observing and participating in these interactions where they make an understanding of social norms and experiment with different behaviours (Huang et al., 2014). Physical involves healthy eating and exercises. Running, skipping, balancing, jumping contribute to the development of bones, muscles and body systems. Interactive is being able to communicate with others. Children interact with others to share/receive information, but also to learn how to communicate effectively. Cognitive development is gaining and understanding knowledge and teaching children how to learn. They can develop these skills by providing arrange of experiences in which they can be practiced. Emotional includes the child recognising their emotions and others. For children to develop their emotional skills they need to feel safe and valued by the people in their life. When children see you deal with emotions in a positive way it helps them to deal with their own emotions.
Infants in this stage get all that they require from their mom in the placenta, which is basic to fetal survival. Our bodies are comprised of cells, each loaded with chromosomes and DNA. Cells in our bodies experience mitosis, which makes developing conceivable. Chromosomes given from the mother and the father decide the youngster's physical improvement. The qualities in our bodies “provide a blueprint or code to the cell for how to produce proteins” (Broderick & Blewitt, 2010, p. 37).
