This modular warehouse management system provides tremendous flexibility and can be carefully customized for the unique needs of each customer. It offers full-featured support for both bar coding and RF technologies, and it supports the centralized tracking of inventory from receipt through distribution and delivery. WMS runs on the OpenEdge business environment, and it provides the detailed tracking and reporting capabilities necessary for ensuring compliance with government requirements for tracking drug storage and shipments. According to Knoops, “We wanted a warehouse management system that would easily integrate with our existing internally developed applications. The objective of our WMS deployment was to achieve a much higher level of automation in the warehouse, and we realized that we could not only improve logistics, but we could also better serve our customers by automating warehouse operations and moving from a paper-based system to a modern, automated infrastructure.” DHL Special Services stockpiles inventory which it then distributes to its customers. Previously, each delivery was tracked
The Process is that when received, all items are counted manually and taken to the warehouse - loaded on to special shelves. Information is recorded on the computer. Each department identifies goods needed. A list is made and items taken for display and sale in the shop. Department staff replenish the shelves when needed under close supervision and management in order to supply a high class service to customers.
Supply chain management systems, enterprise resource planning systems, and customer relationship management systems are all used at Comcast and are a huge part of the success of the organization. Supply chain management systems are used to track information and inventory across different region markets and nationwide. An automated tracking of inventory allows the movement of products such as modems to be available for a technician on the day of install. By using the just-in-time method it allows the delivery of the product as the customer wants it. Comcast uses an RFID tracking to optimize their supply chain management (“Why the Right”, 2016). This means there is a tag chip which stores the products electronic code so it can be tracked by
This can be done at a fraction of what it would cost the businesses to build their own systems and infrastructure. This system provides businesses with a network of distribution centers, warehouses, inventory management, and customer call centers so they can take orders on their web sites.

The Home Depot Rapid Deployment Center’s inventory tracking system is based on a star network configuration. Each employee uses a Radio Frequency (RF) scanning gun to create labels placed on all inventory as it is received into inventory. Then, the labels on the inventory are scanned and located to predetermined locations in the building, tracking the inventory’s movement through the building. This tracking ensures that no inventory is lost while transitioning from receiving until it is placed on the correct trailer for shipment to our stores. Another function of the RF guns are to track the work being performed by the employees to compare against a predetermined set of standards. This data tells a story of how effectively each person is completing
The sole purpose of this project is to advance and streamline Riordan Enterprise's inventory and manufacturing processes by introducing a new cost effective way for all company locations to communicate and deliver their critical data in a timely efficient manner. Riordan Enterprises should explore and then utilize available technological advancements in system tracking products in order to remain competitive in today's marketplace.
Wal-Mart currently has one of the most advanced inventory management systems due to their use of RFID tracking capabilities. Every product is equipped with a radio frequency identification tag, which identifies the location and type of product in the warehouse. As the product leaves the warehouses, there are readers in place at the door that automatically recognize which products are leaving and entering the warehouse. The benefit of this is that it limits the use of employees better employed elsewhere and has impeccable accuracy, much more accurate and faster than if employees were to take inventory. The service that our product provides is to take this current technology and to implement it at a grocery stores as well as retail in the
In addition to these regional and flatbed centers, Lowe’s has three transload facilities for products that are imported along with four specialty centers to support their import business and flexible fulfillment capabilities. One way that Lowe’s is reducing inventory costs is by stocking the slower moving expensive items in the regional distribution center so they do not take up space in the store. Through this system, Special Order Sales system, they are able to reduce investment in inventory and provide quick delivery of the product to the customer when it is ordered. Lowe’s has an efficient supply chain that allows them to obtain, track, and distribute almost 75% of merchandise to its stores through its logistics system of purchasing their merchandise in large quantities so they can receive a discount. A portion of the discount they receive then go on to the customer. Lowe’s reaches out to their customers in many different ways such as in the store, online, on-site, and contact centers. They are always focused on providing flawless multi-channel knowledge to their customers so they can engage with the company from anywhere at anytime. * Colson and Dorigo, (Liviu lliea, 2009) offer an example of a software tool that is built to measure warehouse activities. The criteria measured includes: storage surface and volume, dangerous items, temperature control, storage area separation, distance to transportation locations, certifications, hours of operation, customs assistance, technology integration, equipment handling, and dock activities.
The inventory and production departments also have issues. Currently, inventory is done by the receiving area supervisor confirming the shipping documents against incoming orders by hand. This allows for human error and is not a quick or efficient way to do inventory. The same process is used when production takes items from inventory. The inventory system is only updated once daily when new raw materials arrive and then again once daily from production when the raw material is used. The lack of tracking and checking in a timely manner leaves the organization’s processes at a higher risk of failure. The inventory system does not currently communicate with the sales or with the Finance and Accounting applications. This may lead to a
