I. Introduction
A. The concept of being able to diagnose people’s illnesses is very interesting to me.
B. My interest in x-rays and ultrasounds led me to pursue a career in Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
Thesis: I chose this career when I found out that I would be providing one-on-one care to various people who can range from being healthy to critically ill. Currently, I do this as a certified nursing assistant. I assist the elderly who range from being able to take care of themselves with minor help to the ones who are in need of a lot of help such as the Alzheimer patients. A. The primary focus of a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer is to create images by using a high-tech instrument which will take images from inside the human body that will be used by doctors to make a medical diagnosis (Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography, 2015).
B. A diagnostic medical sonographer only requires a two-year associate’s degree (Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Job Overview, U.S. News Careers, 2014).
C. The median annual wage for a diagnostic medical sonographer is $67,941.00 annually (Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography, 2015).
D. The number of open positions for a diagnostic medical sonographer is expected to grow by 46 percent between 2012 and 2022 (Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Job Overview, U.S. News Careers, 2014).
III. Conclusion
I have the mental capacity to learn this high tech instrument in order to distinguish audible sounds and to sufficiently view sonograms including color …show more content…

Sonograms are used in the detection and treatment of heart disease, heart attack, and vascular disease that can lead to a stroke (Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography, 2015). In this field, the sonographer has direct patient contact that may include performing some invasive procedures. A sonographer will need to interact compassionately with people whose health ranges from healthy to critically ill.
