“I’ve come to take you home –home, remember the veld? the lush green grass beneath the big oak trees the air is cool there and the sun does not burn. I have made your bed at the foot of the hill, your blankets are covered in buchu and mint, the proteas stand in yellow and white and the water in the stream chuckle sing-songs as it hobbles along over little stones.” – Diana Farrus This is a poem by Dianna Farrus called “I’ve come to take you home” Dianna Farrus is a South African writer, poet, and story teller. Her works deals with matters of race, gender, class and reconciliation. According to an article that I found Sara Baartman was sold into slavery to a trader named Pieter Willem Cezar she became a domestic servant to his brother. In 1810, Sara allegedly ‘signed’ a contract with an English ship surgeon named William Dunlop who was also a friend of Cezar and his brother Hendrik. The terms of her ‘contract’ stated she would travel with Hendrik Cezar and Dunlop to England and Ireland to work as a domestic servant, and be exhibited for entertainment purposes. She was to receive a ‘portion of earnings’ from her exhibitions and be allowed to return to South Africa after five years. If Sara Baartman did sign the contract could have been unable to read or write and could have been misled. She came from a cultural background were keeping records and writing is non-existent also she would not have been able to understand. It was suspected that the man took Sara for profit because his family were undergoing financial

From the day Darlene Deibler Rose was born she knew she wanted to be in missionary work. She was born on May 10, 1917 in Boone Iowa. She was raised in a Christian household and was blessed enough to have that. At the age of 21 she was happily married to Russell, who also had a calling for missionary work. They together moved to the islands in New Guinea and changed the lives of many natives. When the war began to start they had to make one of the hardest decisions anyone would ever have to make, whether to stay on the islands or to leave. Of course by the power of God, they made the correct decision. Darlene faced many atrocities during her time in the prison camps. From questioning Gods power to being questioned
Fortunately for Kate, she had many female mentors throughout her childhood; the strong and independent widows in her family and the nuns at her school taught her to live a "life of the mind as well as the life of the home." Her father, Thomas O'Flaherty, was an Irish immigrant was a very successful business man. On November 1, 1855, her father was aboard the Pacific Railroad, on its inaugural journey over the Gasconade Bridge, which collapsed, killing many of its passengers, including her father. After just two months into her term at Sacred Heart, Kate came home and from there on out was homeschooled by her great-grandmother. Eliza Faris O'Flaherty, Kate's mother, was a member of the elite French-Creole community and a member of a privileged social circle.

Beautiful, clam - -where there is no hurry to get anywhere, no driving to keep up in a race that knows no ending and no goal…” (Whitecloud 1).

The ideology of the State and life under the Stalinist regime is questioned by Nyeudibnov. Ideology has no power in the war effort, not really. Nyeudibnov realizes that, “at the front the terrible rage of the State, before which millions of people bowed down and trembled, was of no effect”(499). The Germans are not afraid of the Soviet State. The fear amongst the Soviets will not help stop the advancing German tanks. Nyeudibnov also comments that “his own fate and the fate of his children … was no longer under the protection of the great, terrible and beloved State” (499). Nyeudibnov has become disillusioned with the Soviet Ideology when it is shown to be nothing concrete in face of honest war. However, in an argument with Novikov, Nyeudibnov
When it comes to role models, what comes to mind? For some people, it former presidents like George Washington. Some prefer billionaires like Donald Trump, or inventors like Tomas Edison. Others prefer athletes like Michael Jordan or Chris Bosh. The best role model out there is Bethany Hamilton because she did not let an injury such as losing her arm in a shark attack get in the way of achieving her goals.
Lucy Westenra is young, innocent, beautiful, and at most times some would say she had a child’s mind, but she was still adored by all. Lucy was sweet, she never met a stranger, and she loved everybody, three in particular are the men who cherished her so much, they all proposed to her: Arthur Holmwood, Quincey Morris, and Dr. Jack Seward. Even her best friend Mina Murray expressed continuously on how gorgeous Lucy was. The only fault Lucy had was that, she was vulnerable. Lucy was not as strong and independent as Mina, she depended on everyone to protect her because that was everyone’s natural instinct towards her. And she let them because she did not want to disappoint anyone. In the story she even said, “Why can’t a girl marry three men,
This chapter, deals with inaction in art and the ways in which this works upon the audience. Although both artists in this chapter, Cornelia Parker and Chris Jordan, believe that change needs to happen, I will be looking at how their work could actually be feeding the beautiful souls’ inactive state, discussed in chapter one. Both of these artists are important in answering my research question of how can art influence the audience to make positive environmental change, because they are addressing concepts of art and environmental science. They also work with the idea that the comprehension of their work can allow people to make an emotional response to the subject which they believe can lead to taking action, and I will be looking at how realistic and useful that could be.
“The expropriation and appropriation of Sarah Baartman by the colonial and capitalist gaze has lasted long enough. It is not a good idea to create new images of her, because each new image repeats and continues the past exploitation and humiliation of her body.”

William Shakespeare’s play, “Macbeth”, is a widely renowned and well-known piece of literature. The play first starts of telling how Macbeth, a great fighter, with his strength and great skill, helps to win the war. Soon after, Macbeth and Lady Macbeth murder King Duncan and this one choice changes everything.
Ever since I was young I can remember going out on winter mornings to feed the cattle. On mornings like these that open a new window into the beauty of the land I’ve lived on my entire life. The morning starts off with the quiet rumble of the Chevrolet engine, as it warms up and the faint sound of birds chirping in the distance. As I walk out of my house, the cool, crisp air strikes my face and I’m fully awake, ready to start the morning. I head off into the snowy white desert and I begin to hear the frozen stems of grass snapping in two as we drive over.
